Dave Wasserfallen is facilitating a new Sunday morning study on the book Shalom, Salaam, Peace. Please contact Lenise Eddings at for more information. Shalom, Salaam, Peace Three major world religions Judaism, Christianity, and Islam trace their roots back to one historical figure: The patriarch, Abraham. So why can t they get along today? If you d like to explore this idea, we re starting a class called Shalom, Salaam, Peace words used by each of the three to see why we are having such trouble implementing this concept of peace in today s world. There will be a Sunday morning class (9: ), but for those unable to get to that, please let the church office know of your interest and we ll try to arrange another session at another time. 3 Sound the official music! Hold the applause! Shine the spotlight! It s time! It s time for Pastor Kathy s first annual State of the Church address! Sorry, I thought I could do it, but you should know by now that sometimes that official stuff just doesn t seem right. But in all seriousness, I felt this would be a good time to recap where we ve been this last year and look ahead at some things that have been planned. One of the first things that came from my meet and greets with the congregation was that we really didn t seem to have a clear picture of what was important to the Wellsville UMC. The church was down in attendance and in giving. There had been several different sanctuary renovation pushes in the past that had gone nowhere. The youth group was struggling as was the children s Sunday school program. And there was only one adult Sunday school class. In January I formed a visioning team. I asked the lay leadership group to help me choose the team members. I wanted a diverse group of men and women and newer members as well as those who had been here for generations. We began by reading a book together, interviewing community members as well as studying area demographics. Since that time we have put together two sets of priority lists: one financial and one nonfinancial. Our hope is that as we work our way through these priority lists and through lots of prayer we will be able to come to the congregation with a vision for the future of the church. We covet the prayers of all of you! We all know that change is hard but we also believe that change must happen to stop our membership and giving decline. Recently I announced that in order to meet our budget each giving unit (family) of the church needed to increase their giving by $67 per month. I realize that would be a hardship for some of us, if not impossible. But I can also tell you that several families have upped their giving substantially (thank you!). We have also begun accepting e-giving. Our hope is that by making e-giving available we would not be so dependent on only receiving offering when you are in church. Summer is a difficult time on the churches finances. Even though we still have budget needs and ministry needs our worship attendance goes down due to vacations and kids sporting events. If you have not done so I would encourage you to visit our website and enroll in the e-giving option. We have had a change in our adult Sunday school options. Carol Fleming s class has ended but we have begun a new class taught by Dave Wasserfallen. The class is called Peace, Shalom, Salaam and is about the three Abrahamic religions of Christianity, Judaism and Islam. If you re interested please check it out some Sunday morning. Vacation Bible School begins on Monday July 11. The registration form has recently been posted on the church Facebook page. If you have any questions you can give Kandi Kline a call or call the church office from 9 to noon each week day. The youth group is meeting each Sunday morning during the Sunday school hour. It is currently being led by Rachel Boley. If you have a young person that could benefit by taking part in youth group please let them know that Rachel is looking forward to meeting them! Finally, I want to let you know that this first year has been interesting, exciting and crazy busy. I look forward to what the next year will bring. I pray that God will look upon this congregation in love and continue to nudge us in the way that leads to life! See you Sunday, Pastor Kathy

I am the beloved of God. It s who I am. No one can take it from me. I don t have to worry. I don t have to hurry. I can trust my friend Jesus and share his love with the world by Bobbie Schuller, 2015 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VBS is set for July 11th thru the 15th. VBS is an important outreach of our Christian education program here at WUMC. Last year we reached over 75 young people. It's almost harder to know who has the most fun, the kids or us adults putting it on. On that note, I would like to ask for your help to host another successful VBS. We have many places we can use you, with the preschoolers, in the kitchen, setting up, decorating, being a crew leader for a group of 5 kids or even leading a station. I know we are all busy people, but I just ask for you to consider if you can help 1 day, all week, or before to set up or after to tear down. We have had so many fun, successful VBS adventures here with all kinds of different themes. This year we are going on a cave quest, where we are following Jesus, the light of the world! I am interested in borrowing any old spelunking gear one might have, although I know that might be a reach. If you have any questions or would like to help, please feel free to call or text me. Thank you to all who help support VBS in any way, I truly have the best church family ever, and I couldn't do it without you. Kandy Kline You can register through our Facebook page.
