I think it is a time for God to show off. He paints the trees in brilliant hues of reds, yellows, and oranges. Almost like a burst of fireworks before the white flakes of winter come. I picture God saying, Look and come see what I can do!. I love it when God amazes us. Fall is a time of remembering raking and gathering leaves only to jump into them and have to rake them up again. Time of cooler days and nights waiting for Indian Summer to kick in. God sure loves to keep us on our toes during this season wondering if we will wake up to a dusting of snow or will it be time to pull out the sandals again. I love the sunsets that God shares with us this time of year. Can you see it? The Sun is dancing off of the leaves on the tree and sparkling on the drifting ones as they take their time aimlessly falling ever so gently to the floor of the Earth. Preparations need to begin. Warmer clothes come out of the closets, crafters are making sure they have enough for the impending fairs, hot cider and cinnamon, the smell of apple crisp in the oven, can you stand the anticipation? I am looking forward to watching God unfold all of His majesty in front of my eyes as I drive to Forest Church every Sunday. Welcome Autumn! You are most welcome indeed! 2 Taking care of our own: is a local nonprofit organization. All people who benefit from this organization must be current residents of Lewis County and must have proof of economic hardship due to major illness or disaster. Money will be distributed to approved applicants in the form of gas cards, gift cards or direct payments of medical facilities. Prayer Concerns: Mackenzie Reed, granddaughter of Helen Gydesen, Chip Bullis, Gloria & John Hall, Dick Bartolette, Mary Fawcett, Trish Baker, Frank Corbet, the grandson of Angela Bartlett, Paul Joslyn, Janet Gydesen, Linda Breen, Joanna Barber, Nancy Gydesen, Scott Jirgens, Rebecca Brown, Micky Smith, Jean Balch, Brian Breen, Larry Ennis, Jason Hoskins, those in prison, shut-ins, those who have lost loved ones, our church, session, deacons and pastoral leadership. Forest Friends/Women s Assoc. Report: Forest Friends/Women s Association had their September meeting at Bertha Dorrity s home, on the 17 th. Following the meeting we had another fantastic luncheon prepared by Bertha. Thank you, Bertha, for sharing your special gift of cooking and hospitality. Kathy Huzzy gave the Forest Finds report. The thrift shop continues to be doing well. We discussed having a future volunteer appreciation luncheon for our hard working, dedicated volunteers. A date and place will be here at church October 10th. Kathy was invited by the Lyons Falls Farmers Market to have a table at the market. She had baskets of items for sale and give out brochures marketing the thrift shop and all the activities at Forest Church. The shop also donated baskets of items to the Lyons Falls Firemen s Auxiliary s Chinese Auction which was September 22 nd. The shop still needs more volunteers during shop hours which are Tuesdays, 1 pm to 4 pm, Thursdays 6 pm to 7:30 pm, and Saturdays 9 am to 12 noon. Please contact Kathy at or forestchurchlf@gmail.com. Our group has purchased a family bible to give the couple getting married October 6 th. We plan to do this for all future married couples. 2

3 The Forest Church Youth Group assisted us with removing the papers from the crayons. We mailed a large box of recycled crayons to California for the Crayon Initiative. Thank you to all who participated in this activity. The crayons will be melted down and new crayons made, then given to children in hospitals. Forest Friends donates $ each month to the Forest Church Deacons for their continued goal to support the needs of our community. We will continue to give them this worthy monthly contribution. Our annual BAZAAR will be Saturday, November 3, 10 am to 2 pm. We will have our usual bake sale, café, Forest Finds basket auction, vendors, and a youth table. Our group voted to donate $1000 of our proceeds this year to LEWIS COUNTY TAKING CARE OF OUR OWN. If you would like to help at the Bazaar please contact Joanne Malone, our chair, at or homalones@yahoo.com Ways you can help us and others: Please save Box Tops for Education. Clip the box top coupons from participating products. Each coupon is worth 10 cents. Our schools receive a check twice a year for submissions we send. Clip and save Campbell s Labels. As of August 2006, Campbell s will NOT accept the front soup label. Please clip and save the UPC s along with the Campbell s Logo. We need the whole UPC label and the bar code as shown here. We also collect other things: used cell phones, aluminum pop tops, used eye glasses, and toiletries. There is a basket across from our upstairs kitchen to put these items. The toiletries, box tops, and soup labels you provide help to support the following organizations: The women s shelter in Lowville, Veterans, Office for the Aging, NCRIL, South Lewis Schools, the homeless, and the Christmas Give Away. Thanks so much for all your support, it puts smiles on the faces of so many people. Many thanks for Susan Stratton for organizing these collections. We will be having a meeting sometime in September, stay tuned. Katie Liendecker, president of Forest Finds/Women s Association Youth Group: The youth group had great success last year during the Bazaar selling their house plants. Teresa would like to ask anyone if they have a plant they could clip and start for the youth group to sell at the Bazaar it would be greatly appreciated Turin Methodist Church: The Turin Methodist Ladies be holding their annual Christmas in October Sale on Oct.13 th from 10am-3pm in Turin at the church. They will be serving lunches - admission is free. Session meeting and Deacons meeting: Will be held the first Sunday in October. Lewis County General Hospital: Has been sending us information that is good for all of us to know. I am posting these notices on the bulletin board in the hall by the Forest Finds desk 3
