Jay Haynes, Official Photographer, N.P.R.R. Selby Ave., Cor, Virginia. Send for Catalogue of Views. Northern Pacific, Yellowstone Park, Pacific Coast and Alaska. Printed on the reverse at the foot. Minor overall age toning with slightly bowed mounts. Titles printed on the front of the mount, beneath the image. Nice collection of 19th century images of Yellowstone National Park by the renowned photographer, F.J. Haynes that give a nice overview of the park. This group offers views of both sides of the Continental Divide, with photographs of the Lower, Midway and Upper Geyser Basins (including Old Faithful); the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone; Norris Geyser Basin; north entrance and Mammoth Hot Springs. F.J. Haynes ( ) was one of the most prolific of the West s early photographers, his images of Yellowstone are legendary and some of the finest ever produced. The Haynes family operated a photo studio in Yellowstone for nearly eight decades. $1,850

[Washington DC?]: Geological Society of America Collection of Photographs, (c.1885). 27 Boudoir albumen [20 cm x 15 cm] cabinet cards mounted on linen and string bound into boards. Paper label on front board and typed titles on the reverse of all linen mounts. Images numbered Discoloration to lower right corners due to dampness. Extremities of boards rubbed, with the lower right corner of the front board chipped. Paper number labels at the upper right corner of the photographs. Images have nice contrasts. produced to supplement the 7th Annual USGS report. Rare collection of photographs by the famed geologist and educator, that show some of the more remote sections of Yellowstone Park and was presented by the U.S. Geological Survey, and likely Joseph Paxson Iddings ( ), was a renowned geologist, petrologist and educator. For seven years ( ) Iddings worked with Arnold Hague on the exploration and mapping of the geology of Yellowstone National Park. I am unable to locate another copy of this work. Presumed rare. $1,650

Promotional tour guide produced by the Union Pacific with photographs and color illustrations throughout, with a fold-out map (pictured) at rear panel. Nice midcentury design and aesthetic. Laid in is a fourpage travel brochure, that includes information and rates for the 1949 tour season. $40

First Edition. 24 leaves Oblong quarto [26 cm x 32 cm] Tan string bound wrappers with title in gray on the front panel. Very good. Covers chipped and bumped at the extremities with some closed tearing around the string holes. Faint small discoloring to the head of a few leaves. Former owner's name in pencil with date (Aug. 1920) in the margin of the first leaf. Contains 24 [16 cm x 21 cm] striking tipped-in photogravures of the Grand Canyon and vicinity with printed borders and titles on the mounts. Images of the Grand Canyon and vicinity, including shots of El Tovar Hotel, Bright Angel trail, Colorado River, Hermit's Rest, Hermit's Trail, Moran Point and a "Hopi" pueblo. Lovely promotional piece by the Fred Harvey Company to promote the scenic wonders of the Grand Canyon and his hotel situated on the South Rim, El Tovar. $150

Painted plaster model [12 cm x 24 cm x 22 cm] Minor chipping to plaster and paint. Pueblo on the front of the base. West on the left side of the base is what remains from the original caption: Southwest USA. WPA District 15 keystone shield in the back right corner on the base. This is number one of five different architectural Pueblo models that where produced by the Pennsylvania Museum Extension Project. Very similar in style to the Taos Pueblo. Rare. $875

7 Jamez & Santa Fe 6- Sandahl, Gustaf. 4 photographs of the Jemez Pueblo and Santa Fe. [Colorado Springs, CO]: Gustaf Sandahl, November, Four unmounted black and white snapshots [10 cm x 13 cm]. Manuscript identification in pencil on the reverse of three of the images. Sandahl stamp on the reverse of one of the images. The images show: 1- dancers in the plaza at Jemez; 2- A group of men sitting in the shade just off the Jemez Plaza; 3- The San Francisco de Asis church of Ranchos de Taos; 4- a posed group of four dancers in Taos. A nice collection of snapshots showing some of the people and buildings of the Taos area of northern New Mexico in the early 20th century. These images are from the collection of Ernie Bulow. $150

New York: Century Company, First Edition. 276pp. Duodecimo [20.5 cm] Green cloth with titles in purple on the front board and the backstrip. Very good/near fine. Head and foot of jacket appears to be trimmed (ever so slightly). Illustrated throughout with photographs and drawings. Map endsheets and pastedowns. The Rainbow Bridge and Indian life in the Navaho country in an easy-going story told by a distinguished anthropologist. - Farquhar 122. $125

9 Owl Creek Mine - California Mining Collection 8- [Mining]. Owl Creek Mining Claim. [Placer County]: (c.1880). 1880s collection of material related to the Owl Creek mining claim in Placer County, California. There are Thirty-nine pages of manuscript letters and notes, two mounted cabinet cards and a hand-drawn map. 39 manuscript pages: Pages [32 cm x 20 cm] are in three groups. Two of the groups [32 pages] are handcopied duplicates of letters between J.H. White, who owned Todd s Valley Saw Mill and a half stake in the Owl Creek claim, and career miner Felix Chapellet, Chapellet owned the other half of the Owl Creek claim and also owned Live Oak Mining Co., The May Flower Co., and the Hawk Eye and the Wolverine Tunnels. The letters concern the operation and progress of the Owl Creek claim, tunnels built, lumber for all of Chapellet s various claims, and discussion of White selling his half of the claim since he was not working it. The second manuscript group of leaves [9 leaves] consists of notes on ranches and other properties in the area in the 1880s with descriptions, including the Owl Creek claim. These would appear to be for a legal case. Two mounted cabinet cards: [19 cm x 12 cm] image on tan mount [23 cm x 18 cm] with a hand-stamped photographer s mark (mostly obscured). On the reverse in pencil in the upper left corner: CLAMR 9/13 Placer Cty, Ca. Mining. Image shows four men operating a sluice between two small buildings/cabins. Minor overall soiling and spotting. [19.5 cm x 11.5 cm] image on a tan mount [21.5 cm x 13.5 cm]. On the reverse in pencil in the upper left corner: CRMCP 9/13 Placer Cty, Ca. Mining. Image shows three men operating a sluice. Minor overall soiling and spotting. Map: Hand drawn survey map [50 cm x 64 cm] in pencil of the Owl Creek claim, Hawk Eye, and Wolverine Tunnel. Drawn by Anthony Clark in Map has some minor chipping and bumping to the extremities. A corner damp stain. A paper repair to the reverse running the length. Pencil on map is faint. $1950

Map [61 cm x 48] on a sheet [71 cm x 53 cm] Very good. Some splitting at folds of map, but mostly very good. Map only (no guide book). At the foot of the map is an index of larger California cities from Alameda to Yerington. (populations over 500) giving population and offering a key to locating them on the map. Insets of the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas on the left side of the map (over the Pacific Ocean of the larger map). The reverse offers a map of just Nevada [52 cm x 38 cm] with an index of larger Nevada towns in the right margin from Alamo to Wonder (populations over 100). $165

11 Bootlegging Murderers 10 -[Wanted Poster] [Prohibition]. Wanted Poster for Umber Martini and G. Vandanega. Bakersfield, CA: City and County Bureau of Identification, Wanted poster [28 cm x 20 cm] Near fine. Three folds with one short closed tear at one of the fold's end. Both men are wanted for the killing of a prominent rancher, J.L. Benso, for "informing regarding the activities of a bootlegging gang" on February 20th, "This killing was totally uncalled for and of particularly brutal nature and we are asking the active co-operation of all officers toward the apprehension of these men. Arrest on sight, using due care, as they are dangerous, and wire all information at our expense. We will send an officer to make proper identification and return." - Text at foot. $100

12 Rare Utah/Nevada Trails Map by David E. Miller 11- Miller, David E. Early Trails - North Utah & Nevada. [Salt Lake City]: Map [30 cm x 43 cm] ink on paper. Very good. Glue residue stain that runs the head and foot. Short closed tear at the left side. 'D.E. Miller, 1959' in lower right corner of legend. This map locates, and marks, the following trails: Peter Skene Ogden, , ; John Work, 1831; Joseph P. Walker, 1833; Bartelson-Bidwell, 1841; Hastings Cutoff, 1846; Howard Stansbury, David Eugene Miller ( ) was a professor of history at the University of Utah, and one of the foremost authorities on the historical trails of Utah. Rare. I am able to locate one other example of this map. (Utah State Historical Society). $150

13 Mormon Prophet s F.B.I. File 12- [Federal Bureau of Investigation]. Ezra Taft Benson's F.B.I. File. Salt Lake City: The Smith- Pettit Foundation, First Edition. [260pp] Quarto [28 cm] Black cloth with the title gilt on the backstrip. Fine. The print run for this work was 100 copies. The F.B.I. officially opened a file on Ezra Taft Benson on November 24, 1952, at Benson's request, following his nomination as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture under newly elected U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower. In addition to information gathered in connections with Benson's national federal appointment, his file also contains letters to F.B.I Director J. Edgar Hoover dating from 1944 and 1947, as well as additional documents dating from the 1950s, 1960s, and as late as While much - but not all - of this material is generally routine in nature, it does function to document Benson's interaction with the Bureau and its agents, particularly with Hoover, as well as Benson's political beliefs and activities, including his association with the John Birch Society and its founder, Robert Welch. This work reproduces the files released by the F.B.I. after a Freedom of Information request in $125

[Salt Lake City]: Small form [5 cm x 20.5 cm] printed in red and black with blanks to be filled in by hand. Very good. Receipt is dated March 21, 1874 and for Edwin D. Wooley, the amount is for $74.50 and is signed by the Assessor and Collector, John R. Winder. On the reverse in Winder's hand: "Tax Rec'd of Winder." Nice piece of ephemera, linking the LDS General Authority, John R. Winder ( ) and Mormon Pioneer and Bishop, Edwin D. Woolley ( ). Tax is likely for Woolley's lot on 3rd South and 3rd East (SLC). $125

A few shortclosed tears at the extremities and general overall age toning. Printed by R.W. Singleton Company of Los Angeles. Hubbahubba. $50

Pocatello, ID: Austin's Imports - Novelties, Printed card stock [39 cm x 23 cm] with a glued-on color photograph of a nude woman sitting on a bed [24 cm 18 cm] over the photograph is a mylar sheet with printed fishnets and lingerie, so that the woman appears to be clothed until the sheet is pulled up. (Heyooooooo!) Unused tearoff calendar at the foot [6.5 cm x 13 cm] Very good. Damp staining to lower left corner. Printed for the Whitman Hotel in Pocatello. Hubba-hubba. $40
