Click Tracing LDS Ancestors. Locate Key LDS Ancestor Research Links (center of page). Click on each link to study those listed below. MORMON MIGRATION Did your Mormon ancestor cross the ocean to America? This website has autobiographies, journals, diaries, reminiscences, and letters that link to over 500 known LDS immigrant voyages. It provides a composite history of those who crossed the Atlantic and Pacific and then traveled overland to gather to Zion. Gatherings were: to Nauvoo to the Salt Lake Valley by rail To find an ancestor, type the name in the search field, and press Enter. If one of your LDS ancestors crossed the ocean between 1840 and 1890, type the name in the search box. If not, try President Harold B. Lee s great grandfather, Joseph McMurrin. Click on any link to see more information about the individual, the voyage, or shipmates. HELPFUL HINT: To quickly find a name or word on any page or document without reading the entire document, type CTRL F and enter the name or word in the small search box at upper right. Click on the down arrow to move to each succeeding reference. You may need to try alternate spellings of a name. To decipher a source abbreviation, click on Source Abbreviations (bottom of page). To search for a voyage by passenger, place, ship name, or date, click Find a voyage (top of page). This website can also be accessed at lib.byu.edu/mormonmigration. This database is the most complete listing of the individuals and the 300+ companies in which over 60,000 Mormon pioneer emigrants traveled to Utah. Companies are listed by the captain s name, and basic information is provided. The database includes diaries, journals, letters, and reminiscences written by company members and contemporary reports about the company. To find an ancestor, fill in the search fields with what you know about the person. From the left side of the home page you can refine your search by age, gender, birth year, and/or death year.. If one of your ancestors crossed the plains between 1847 and 1868, type the name in the search box. If not, try President Ezra Taft Benson s paternal grandmother, Louisa Alexandrine Ballif. This database combines the efforts of the Land and Records Office of the Illinois Nauvoo Mission and the Pioneer Research Group in Winter Quarters (Omaha, Nebraska) and Kanesville (Council Bluffs,

This database combines the efforts of the Land and Records Office of the Illinois Nauvoo Mission and the Pioneer Research Group in Winter Quarters (Omaha, Nebraska) and Kanesville (Council Bluffs, Iowa). They are gathering names of pioneers who lived in the 90+ LDS settlements in the Middle Missouri Valley and Iowa in , mostly early Latter-day Saints. Parent information and family links are included where available. To find an ancestor, type the name in the search fields on the home page, and press Enter. 4 To see more information about an ancestor, including dates, places, events, ancestors, descendants, an event map, and a list of the sources of this information, click on an underlined name in the list of possible matches. Several names in the list may refer to your ancestor. On the ancestor page you are taken to, many items are links to other pages. Notice many links at the top of the page and in the area under the name and dates of the individual. Click on those that interest you. 6 NAUVOO DATABASES AVAILABLE ONLY IN SELECTED FAMILY HISTORY CENTERS Nauvoo Data Bank a searchable database of early LDS historical records from 1839 to 1846, prepared under the direction of Nauvoo Restoration, Inc. Double click on the Nauvoo Data Bank icon on the computer desktop. You may see a small Folio Views window asking you what you want to do. Click OK. Click on the Document tab at lower left if it is not already open. Click on the Advanced Query button at lower left (NOT the tab). In the bottom field of the window that appears, type in quotation marks the first and last name of your ancestor, then at the end. Example: henry This will take you to instances of henry and platt wherever they occur together within five words of each other. Click OK. Hits will appear highlighted in blue. To move to the next hit, click the large right-facing double arrow key at the bottom. To mark an item, highlight the area you want to mark. Push Ctrl + T to tag it. To print, click File, then Print. To save, click File, then Export. In the Save in field, select the correct drive. In the File name field, type a title. In the Save as type field, click the down arrow and Rich Text Format. Click Export. To clear tags, click Edit, then Clear All Tags. To begin a new search, click the Advanced Query button. Early Nauvoo Writings a database of over 900 writings of early Latter-day Saints and their contemporaries. Spelling is standardized and punctuation added for clarity. Double click the Nauvoo Early Writings icon on the desktop. Click The early writings of the Nauvoo period.
