1 A PUBLICATION OF THE STOCKTON SCOTTISH RITE BODIES The Rite News Volume71/02 Valley of Stockton Orient of California February 2015 A Message from the Personal Representative The Valley of Stockton has begun another year with a newly installed corps of officers. The installation ceremony was held January 7 th with a nice crowd looking on. Dinner was a superbly prepared Prime Rib and was served by the Stockton Rainbow Assembly. Honoring us that evening we had as our guest, Ill. Frank Loui, 33, SGIG and his bride Jeanie. Installed that evening as the heads of the four bodies were Venerable Master, Nunzio Napoli, 32, Wise Master, Shawn McCarty, 32, Commander, Crispin Woelfer, 32 KCCH, and as Master of Kadosh, David Nunez, 32. I offer my sincerest congratulations to these brothers and to the corps of officers supporting them. Along with new officers, we have committees for all of the events we are planning for Each committee chairman is looking for participation from members old and new. No crab feed or fireworks booth earns funds by itself. The dedication of Scottish Rite Masons make them work. Speaking of Crab Feeds, please join us on Feb. 20 th for one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. We need your support. Not only is it a great cause, it is a great meal with even greater company, your fellow Masonic families. Fraternally, Patrick O Hern, 32 KCCH 1

3 A Word from the Assistant to the Personal Rep. John Baker, 32, KCCH Last month I stated that we were about to re-start the Master Craftsman program. I was looking for someone to take the lead and make the program more relevant to the non-scholar who is looking for more light. We had a volunteer step forward who is ideal for the job. Brother Kirby Robinson, 32, will be our guy facilitating that program. Drop by the Rite and let s talk about it. Also, we are in the process of forming new Degree Teams. I am specifically and personally working on the formation of a new 18 th Degree team. In olden times, individual Blue Lodges took responsibility for different Scottish Rite Degrees. Morning Star Lodge did the 18 th Degree. I am putting out a challenge to each of you to talk to Scottish Rite brothers in your own Blue Lodge and decide which Degree you would like to portray. As a result we get dedicated and proficient teams and more cooperation from the Lodges themselves. It is a win - win situation. Let s discuss which S.R. Degrees you would like to take on. Ill. Finnes Bowman has the 4 th Degree well under control with the Foot Hill Lodges. I am asking Morning Star to take on the 18 th. That leaves the 14 th, the 30 th and the 32 nd mandatory degrees and we could really shake the earth by reviving one of the remaining degrees which have not been seen in this Valley for many years. Let s join the march back into the light and do what we have always been meant to do. Fraternally, John L. Baker, 32 KCCH A Message From Our Ladies Association On Wednesday, February 4, 2015, our Ladies Association will be meeting in the Library at 7:00 P.M. Please come and enjoy the company and help us make some important decisions as to the direction we want our Association to head for the 2015 year. We are always open to entertain new ideas on fundraising as well as ideas on how to have fun as a group. If you have questions or concerns and you will be unable to attend our meeting, please feel free to contact me, Barbara Burruel at (209) I am looking forward to a fun and exciting

5 News From Rainbow Assembly No. 9, Stockton Bringing warm and happy new years wishes to all! The assembly went to the Masonic Homes on January 3 rd to take down the Christmas tree that we decorated for the residents. We received a certificate for the Most Elegant tree. YAY! We were pleased to be asked to assist the Scottish Rite by serving their Installation dinner January 7 th. There was not a large crowd but it was a pleasure to serve dinner and visit with the guests. On January 23 rd we assisted the San Joaquin Shrine Club by serving at their annual Crab Feed. This event always has a huge crowd and we appreciate the opportunity as a tip jar is passed among the guests and we use the proceeds to help with Assembly expenses and our Grand Service project. This year, our Grand Service project is the Scottish Rite Language Center. 9 A Message From our General Secretary Kent Armstrong 32 Here we are heading into a new year. Lots of things are happening at your Valley. Our Movie Days have been very popular and we hope that more of you will join us on the third Sunday of each month to watch movies that we like to see. We are getting new members, both by petition and affiliation. Last fall we got 6 candidates for degrees and 4 members by affiliation. So far this year we have 8 potential candidate for our March Degrees. It would be nice to have 10 or 12 so if you have members of your Lodge who would be candidates get them to fill in a petition and let s make this a big class, something we haven t had for quite a while. Our progress in fixing up the building is slowly progressing, we have done most of the small things that are not expensive, but we still have some things we need to work on like new flooring in the banquet hall, new signs for the front and back of our building, major work on the heating/air conditioning and at some point in the near future a new roof. Most of those are big ticket items so we will have to work towards them building our funds little by little until we have enough to do that part. If you paid your dues you got a 2015 sticker to put on your permanent dues card. If you have not paid your dues, they are due. I just received a package from Brother Ted Green in Modesto, in it were several pairs of handmade earrings that Brother Green offered to have us sell them and donate the proceeds to our Building Fund. They will be for sale at our Crab Feed for $10.00 per pair. I believe that many ladies will go home with very nice jewelry and our Building Fund will be richer for it. Make sure you check them out at the Crab Feed. 9
