11 THE TRIANGLE S GOT TALENT I am writing this just after the West Lindsey Churches Open weekend which has seen all three Triangle village churches, along with Grayingham, open their doors even wider than usual to welcome visitors. And what a welcome it was! Between them, Waddingham, Snitterby and Bishop Norton managed to put on a wedding, a beautiful exhibition of lilies, displays of local talent ranging from painting and knitting to writing and pantomime drama, and some delicious home-made refreshments and cakes for sale. Visitors came from a wide area to enjoy the very different atmosphere of each church, and many expressed delight at the character and charm of our buildings. Without the willingness of parishioners to give of their time, energy and talents, the event would not have been possible, and I wish to thank you all publicly. Open Churches was also a fund-raising event, for each church has bills to pay, and hopefully the weekend will have helped towards those, too. But, important as the money is, it is good to be reminded just how much talent in one form or another exists in our small communities. The exhibits on display and the food available were but a small sample of the skills and abilities that people have to contribute, and it s good to see them used. Using the gifts we have been given not only gives us a sense of satisfaction ourselves, but also enriches our shared lives. Jesus told a parable about Talents that can be found in Matthew and Luke s Gospels. Originally a talent was a sum of money, but from that word we get our modern understanding of talent as any gift or ability. In the story, two men are given two and five talents each, and they used them wisely to make more. They earned their master s praise and were given more responsibility. A third man was given one talent, but simply buried it so it was never used, and his master was angry because he had not even tried to make anything of his gift. Even what he had was taken away from him in the end. There are various ways of understanding this parable, but one simple interpretation suggests that we have different gifts, but all of them are meant to be used. Simply hiding them away helps no-one, and is a terrible waste of potential. As they say, use it or lose it. Open Churches is just one annual opportunity to share our gifts with one another. There are plenty more throughout the year. I look forward to seeing even more of the Triangle s own rich talents as time goes on. Revd Kathy 9

17 METHODIST GUILD MEETING The end of another season brought the AGM when it was decided that the format for next season would be altered slightly. 2013/14 season will start in September and finish in May next year with no meetings in January and February to avoid the worst of the weather. The meeting was attended as usual, by Mrs Ann Spolton who after the AGM, entertained us with a talk about some of her experiences as a teacher, clearly relishing her years in the classroom. We were then treated to her reading of a short story on the same theme (more of a one women play - very enjoyable). We hope that all our group have a lovely summer and will be pleased to see them, and anyone else who would like to join us, next season. 15

19 SNITTERBY THEFTS The Parish Council received a report from PC Angie Raper regarding 3 shed breaks where tools/gardening equipment and a pushbike have been stolen. This was discussed at the Parish Council meeting held on 9 May and it was agreed to renew a resident contact list should anything suspicious be noticed. You may recall this being in operation some time ago and it proved very successful. The contact list is not intended to replace the Police service and as always, should anything suspicious be seen or heard please call 101 at the time so that Officers can attend. The Police have advised all residents to remain vigilant and take necessary security steps to ensure that sheds are kept locked and where possible, use alarms and security lighting. If you are interested in being included on a Snitterby Resident Contact List, please contact the Clerk with your name, address and telephone number. Information will then be collated and distributed.
