During VBS, children will discover an interactive, energizing, Bible-based program that gives them the opportunity to experience the ride of a lifetime with God. Children will become Rafters and explore how to serve God and God s mission for their lives. Jr. High students will be going out each day to serve in our local community with other charitable agencies. Registration forms, and more information is available on the VBS table in the Narthex. 2 From the Pastors Study For most of the month of May, there was a robin s nest in a Bradford Pear tree by the church parking lot. I kept an eye on the nest for a few weeks knowing that there were 3 eggs getting ready to hatch. On Monday, May 14 around 9:30 am, just hours after we received news that our own Paul Radford had died, I decided to take a peek into the nest. There were three tiny baby birds resting peacefully. Throughout the week as my heart was heavy preparing for the upcoming funeral, I checked on the birds every morning with eager anticipation of hope and new life. One day, I saw them with their beaks wide open, clearly hungry, waiting for some food. It was a rainy week, so many times when I pulled into the parking lot, there was an adult robin perched on the nest getting all wet as it protected the babies from the rain. Everyday I thought it was the mama bird. Until one day, the adult robin flew off the nest and perched into a tree and chirped loudly - I think it was mad that I was there. As this robin chirped and chirped, another robin swooped in and perched in the tree. This new robin was not as brightly colored as the first, and it was then that I knew that it had been the daddy robin all this time who was so lovingly caring for his three babies while the mama got some food. Another time, I pulled into the parking lot and the mama bird flew off the nest as the daddy bird came in with food to feed the babies. Watching these birds take care of their babies in the midst of the rain gave me hope, knowing how much God loves and cares for us in the storms of our own lives, I just can t help but know that the robin has been a simple reminder of God s great faithfulness to each of us. Within ten days of their birth, the baby robins were ready to fly on their own. My twins and I were witnesses to their first flight out of their nest when they took a leap of faith, flapped their wings and took flight. May we all have the strength and courage as these young birds to step out of the comfort of our nest and take a leap of faith into the world where we can go and serve one another, knowing that God is with us each step of the way. 4 Announcements First Annual Family Fun Run in the Georgetown South neighborhood. Saturday June 16th 9:00am The Run of Faith is a great way for neighbors and local businesses to get to know each other as we team up to raise funds to combat some of the most pervasive problems in our communities today: alcoholism, drug addiction, family breakup, domestic violence and more. Your sponsorship will make a difference not just in Manassas City, but around the DC Metro Area, and around the world. If you have any questions please contact us! Go to for more information. MCoB will be host to Holy Yoga which is the intentional practice of connecting our entire being, body, mind and spirit with God: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 5 Family Events The 2018 Kline Family reunion will be held at MCoB on Sunday June 10, 2018 following worship. There will be a visitation time, with lunch served at 12:45pm. Bring your favorite family dishes, photos, and stories to share! Join the Kline family as they celebrate June Kline, who will be 90 on June 18th! The family invites you all to celebrate on Saturday June 23, 2018 from 2-5pm at Windy Knoll Farm in Nokesville. Koinonia Fellowship Gathering will meet on Saturday June 16, 2018 at 5:00pm at the church picnic area. Please bring a dish to share as hotdogs and hamburgers will be provided. Birding, Cornhole, and croquet will be available. Please contact Steve H. with any questions. The Koinonia fellowship includes those born between but anyone interested in this event is welcome.

6 Ministry On May 21, Mary Jane, Jeanette, Paul, Linda, and Kim K. drove to the Brethren Disaster Ministries New Windsor, MD warehouse to help pack and ship health kits around the globe. Our church family will soon be collecting items for disaster relief buckets this summer! A big thanks to all who made our Silent Auction and Sub Sale a great success! $ was raised for the youth!

7 Church Board and Congregational Council Approve New Staff Positions Christian Education Coordinator The position of Christian Education Coordinator is to work with the Pastor and the Education Ministry Team in matters of the church pertaining to Christian Education. This is a twenty (20) hour a week position. Duties: Provides an approved curriculum for Sunday School Classes (adult, youth, & children) Obtains teachers for classes, provide supplies needed to support and/or carry out the objectives of the curriculum Teaches at least one quarter in one of the Children s classes Provides an approved curriculum for Children s Church (approximately 25 minutes K-2 nd grade) Arranges for Children s Church volunteers Develops a program for Kid s RAP Leads or obtains leaders for Kid s RAP Coordinates with Pastor and teachers for Children s Sunday and help organize the children to help lead worship Works with VBS directors Works with nursery committee to ensure coverage during and the worship hour Manages and oversees Child Protection Policy making sure all volunteers have completed background checks and volunteers are following the guidelines Event Host The Event Host for the Manassas Church of the Brethren s goal is to make the guests feel welcome upon their arrival and to provide them with personal assistance in setting up and cleaning up for their event. The Event Host is to make sure they have access to the rooms and a/v equipment for which they have contracted, to provide support for using a/v equipment, and to ensure they have necessary supplies for clean-up. This position will be under the direction of the Facilities Coordinator, for guidance and support. Community Outreach Coordinator The Community Outreach Coordinator generates opportunities for the Manassas Church of the Brethren to express and develop our Christian faith by engaging in our local community. At the direction of the Pastor, the Community Outreach Coordinator will provide leadership and vision to build a stronger community ministry through support and development of current and new programs. This person will be instrumental in helping our church grow its community presence and service opportunities by working to : Inspire our congregation to take leadership and hands on roles in serving our community to further our belief in the need for our church to be service focused. Coordinate with the Ministry, Service and Outreach team to identify and support outreach efforts planned or in progress that may be community related or applicable to district or denominational programs (i.e. District Habitat Build Project). Serve as staff liaison with current faith based community organizations (i.e. SERVE, Unity in Community, Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity). Become familiar with and expand relationships with other groups and organizations in our community. Identify and assess community needs, as well as potential partners to work with us, to address those needs Assist in making the Manassas Church of the Brethren a welcoming place where neighbors can visit and explore programs, receive services, and serve others as part of our fellowship. Provide leadership for community service opportunities as needed. Lead the church s ministry to members of the community seeking spiritual, physical, or financial assistance. Provide guidance to current church organizations and others as to how we might further our community efforts. Assist in welcoming visitors and helping new individuals make connections within the church family. Participate in the church s use of social media as a vehicle for creating awareness and building personal connections. Assist in increasing awareness of ways to provide additional care for the members of our community including our church family.
