1 Monsignor J. Colby Grimes Fourth Degree Assembly No Volume 2, Issue 2 Published Monthly August 2007 Ladies and Sir Knights Faithful Navigator Mark Steele msteele@insight.rr.com (614) Cell (614) Thank you for your support with the Wake and Funeral Service for SK Walter C. Chadwick. SK Walter and his Lady Marcia had been members of Father Huber, Columbian Martyrs and Monsignor J. Colby Grimes Assembly. This past week SK Ed Yingling and Tony Mercurio assisted in the preparation of the footer for the monument at the Josephinum. The new shirts and nametags are in. I will have them with me at the next two meetings. If you want to play golf, please read the last two pages of the newsletter. Faithful Navigators and Assembly Officers The Master requests your presence at the Ohio District 3 District wide meeting on Sunday October 14, 2007, beginning at 3:00pm at the Lancaster Council Hall. Please invite all current Assembly Officers and their Ladies to attend. All Sir Knights of the District and their Ladies are also welcome to attend. Dear Brother Knights, Faithful Friar Fr. J.L. Reichert (740) This being my first mission to you good men of God, the Knights of Columbus. I thought I d share with you the Ten Cannots by Abraham Lincoln, given to me by a parishioner. TEN CANNOTS By Abraham Lincoln You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrifts. You cannot help smal men by tearing down big men. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot lift the wage earner by puling down the wage earner. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. You cannot further the brotherhood of men by inciting class hatred. You cannot establish security on borowed money. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man s initiative and independence.

2 You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves. Abraham Lincoln wrote these Ten Cannots in a letter to his brother. I am Father Reichert, the grouchy old Pastor of Church of the Ascension, where I ve served for four years. I ve been privileged to be a priest of the Diocese of Columbus for over 36 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 37 years. I joined as a deacon at Mary Help of Christians Church in Fairborn, Ohio. I was received into the Fourth Degree when I served as Pastor of St. Mary s Church in Groveport. It is an honor for me, a priest, to be a part of the right arm of Our Dear Lords Church, the Knights of Columbus. I told Sir Knight Mark Steele I d write an article for my fellow Knights as your Friar. It will vary from month to month, and if you have any suggestions for me, I d be more than happy to receive them. It would probably be best to send them through Mark Steele at msteele@insight.rr.com or directly to my church at ascensionparish@earthlink.net c/o Father Reichert. I thought I d share with you a meditation I use often as a teacher and a Pastor. It s simply pondering how Our Dear Lord Jesus spent His time in the public ministry. Three areas we hear over and over again in Holy Writ are these: First of all, He found time for prayer. The disciples are constantly asking Where is He? Doesn t He know we have places to go and people to see, things to do? Where is He? Sometimes alone, sometimes with chosen friends we find Him in prayer to His/Our Heavenly Father. Secondly, we find Him caring for, ministering to the sick, the suffering, the lonely, strengthening their caregivers. He didn t jump into the SUV, turn up the air and begin the visits. So many times we see Jesus with His disciples walking, sometimes several days o be there in time of need. Thirdly, He spent a lot of time talking about His/Our Father and the kingdom about which He taught us to pray: Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done. On earth as it is in heaven. Our Jesus sent them, indeed he s sending each of us on a mission to take up the cross each and every day and folow in His footsteps. In other words, Do what Jesus did, care as Jesus did. I finished Fr. McGivney s book on the Parish Priest and gave a report on it to our Knights of Columbus here in Johnstown and you know what I m finding out? The role and goal of each of us is the very same as our Dear Lord Himself. To sum up: I use this often, I don t care what you believeuntil I believe that you care. As a student for 20 years and a teacher for ten, I spent 30+ years in a classroom. The New Year for me begins in September. I l conclude by wishing each and every one of you and yours, not a Happy New Year, but a Blessed New Year. It can be just that if our New Year s resolution is to become each day, each hour, some days each moment more and more committed to Jesus Christ and the person He wants us to be by following The Master. Christ Himself doing what He did. Blessed New Year to you and yours, P.S. I got a little carried away with this first article. I promise they al won t be quite this long. However, there s some great info contained herein, so read at least twice, once alone and once with family and/or friends. God love you! St. Gabriel Radio broadcasts the 4:30 PM Saturday Mass from Our Lady of Lourdes in Marysville and the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass from the Cathedral. The station 1270 AM and 89.5 FM needs your prayers and support as it spreads the message of our faith to the community. WUCO broadcasts from Marysville and WFOT broadcasts from Lexington, Ohio.
