3 FROM THE PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE Happy New Year! By the time you read this, 2016 will be well under way. Best wishes to you and yours for a safe, healthy and prosperous 2016! As you will see from the calendar, we have many activities planned in the Norfolk Valley this year. We will have some additional fundraising events and I sincerely hope you will support those to help subsidize our dues. We will also have a renewed focus on educational topics this year, beginning with the Feast of Kadosh on January 21 st. Only by attending our monthly Stated s will you be exposed to this valuable information! Masonically, we have many references to light. It never ceases to amaze me how closely our teachings align with those in my Bible. An example is Mathew 5:16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father who is in heaven. Knowledge enhances our light. Attend our meetings and study the Scottish Rite texts that you may brighten your light and be a beacon to the world. And may all glory be to our Father. Until we meet again, may God bless and keep you! Pete (757) carltongill@cox.net THE SECRETARY SEZ If you plan on paying your dues on line you must have your address recorded in our system, so be sure that I have yours. Paying on line is an easy and fast way to pay your dues. We had 15 candidates for the Fall Reunion, and need petitions for the Spring Reunion. Endowed membership is still a good way to go, as it keeps you from paying dues each year, and your name will always be on the rolls of the Norfolk Scottish Rite. Put your name on five petitions and Ill. James D, Cole, 33º will present a wonderful cup. We miss you and need your attendance during our Stated Meetings (Third Thursday of each month).. I have all of the Patents, Pictures, and Lady Certificates in the Office from the Fall Reunion Please hold on to this Mirror as it has a lot of Masonic information that you can use all year. T. Yes, I am blessed, and am thankful. With the world seemingly on edge and with such great tumult, sometimes we wonder what we, who are indeed so blessed, can do for peace on earth. It is not in the giving of another present, or the decorations that adorn our homes. It is not in achievements or accomplishing great acts. It is not in promotions, wealth, or success. It is in the little things where we can bring peace to the world. Recently with much in the news about Mother Teresa, we can turn to her simple words for our lives -What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family. With much love to my family and from ours to yours Joel BETHEL No. 3 No. 37 No. 42 No. 46 The Masonic Fraternity is always proud of our youth Organizations and we tip our hats to each of them! 5 SHRINE Khedive Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. Woody Brown, Potentate Temple Office Phone: Telephone Membership Chairman To learn to... and improve myself in Masonry If you began your fraternal journey in the traditional way, those were your stated reasons for joining the Craft. In other words to better yourself or improve your lot in life. Undoubtedly you remember the first three things you were shown and told how they taught self improvement. Since then, hopefully, we ve learned that every Masonic degree has lessons useful for life. Furthermore, that we have twenty-nine of them in the Scottish Rite; more than any other Masonic body! Think about it and discuss it with prospective candidates: twenty-nine lessons to draw upon for the rest of ones life. Especially, think about and emphasize the lesson of our final degree: balance or equilibrium. Very often we re counseled in everyday life to take it easy, don t go overboard, all things in moderation and so forth. The emphasis on moderation or equilibrium is the same in both cases. Thus, we see again that our teachings are useful across the spectrum of human activity. Please include these truths in your conversations and programs aimed at recruiting good men for the Norfolk Valley. Fraternally, Frederick R. Dixon, 33 IGH VMAP - Tis the Season Here we are again, that time of year. Everyone rushing around, lots of hustle and bustle, last minute shopping, getting everything ready for the party, making sure nothing was forgotten, but knowing that something will be. There will be people dropping by, some unexpected, taking time and with much glad-handing and the herky-jerky dance that accompanies. Smells everywhere from roasting, frying, and baking, yes the baking of biscuits, cookies, pies, and even more cookies. Lights strung along the bannister and up the tree. Presents wrapped, with colors of red, and green and gold, with sparkle and pine needles dropping to the floor. Oh, and we can t forget the everyday affairs of cleaning the yard and raking the leaves, washing clothes, paying bills, with the even happier thought of more bills to come. It was probably different that night many years ago. Perhaps it was crisp and clear with the glitter of millions of stars overhead. A couple with their newborn child, giving thanks for what they had: love, family, hope for a better future. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. A young mother pondering in her heart the miracles around her, being mindful and thankful of the simple things- those humble, yet most important things. During this time, I find myself thankful. I am thankful for my family and the love they give me, even when sometimes I may be hard to love. I am thankful for the county I live in, and that I was able to serve Her, and now named a veteran. I am thankful for the brothers I have met in Masonry, and the friendship they have shown me in my lodge, and here in the Scottish Rite. I am thankful for the grace that God has shown me, even when not deserved. Page 12 NORFOLK LODGE OF PERFECTION -OFFICERS Venerable Master Ill.
