Whenever you attend an Emmaus Closing, it is a guarantee that you will hear at least one person say, I have never felt such love as I have felt this weekend. We sometimes take for granted the love that we experience at home or the love that we have grown up with as children. However, we need to recognize that this kind of love may not be present in every home. Fortunately Jesus has given us clear direction as to how we are to help. John 13:34-35 reads A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another. When I attended my Emmaus Walk twenty plus years ago, I, too, picked up on the unconditional and unlimited love that was present and it didn t seem to matter who I was, where I was from, where I attended church, how little money I had, what kind of car I drove.it just didn t matter. No one cared about those things. All were loved the same. I felt the love of Jesus like never before. Jesus said we are to love one another and as part of the Emmaus Community we are blessed with opportunity after opportunity to exercise Jesus command. Candlelights, Gatherings, Sendoffs, Agape, etc. are great opportunities for showing and sharing this love. Love is not meant to be stored away, it is meant to be given away. I had the opportunity to lead a Children s Message in my home church recently. I used a bag of M&Ms to help me share this message. I asked the children what color the inside of each color of M&M was. Of course, they said that the chocolate inside of each color of M&M was still brown. I tried to convince them that each color of M&M would be a different color on the inside. They knew better. We actually cut each color in two to prove what they already knew, that the chocolate in all the M&M colors was the same brown. We then related this bag of M&M s to us and sang together Jesus loves the little children; all the children of the world; red, brown, yellow, black and white; all are precious in His sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world. No matter what our outside appearance, no matter where we live, no matter where we attend church, no matter how we dress, no matter what we have or don t have, no matter what.we are all the same on the inside. The children were quick to agree with me that this is how Jesus looks at us and how He is directing us to look at each other. We are all the same, none better than the next. That brings me to my challenge to each of you. Summer is in the air. The birds are singing, the temperatures warming, the flowers are blooming filling the air with wonderful fragrances, the trees now dressed in their best greens, the sky is an awesome blue decorated with pure white fluffy clouds, and the children running to and fro. It is quite obvious that God Loves Us and is blessing us daily with such beauty. Our challenge is to share this love with our fellow man!!!!! Emmaus folks can do this better than anyone! It is not easy to describe the journey that God prepares for us. God leads many people out of their comfort zones providing new opportunities to serve. I totally stepped out of my comfort zone and moved forward in faith as Lay Director of WW#59. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29: 11) God knew the plan for the weekend of WW#59 He knew each and every team member, pilgrim and Emmaus community member who would be involved in serving and supporting the weekend. At the beginning of the team formation for WW#59, I was given guidelines to follow from the Emmaus Executive Board. There were three words at the top of the sheet in large capital letters and also repeated throughout the explanation of responsibilities for the weekend. The three words were PRAY, PRAY, PRAY. The team formation was an incredible experience and by praying without ceasing, God guided me to contact the ladies whom He wanted to serve on the team. I was blessed with the most gracious and caring sisters in Christ. The Hands and Feet of Christ were at work long before the walk weekend began. Ask, seek and knock. I found Jesus living in each one of them. They all had hearts of gold filled with God s love, joy and peace. The love of Jesus continued to spread as the weekend was showered with God s love. His agape love was found in the conference room, on the tables and beds, on all of the floors and rooms of the church, through the team, Emmaus Community, and prayer. I saw God s amazing love and wisdom enlighten hearts, open minds, and change lives. We were all touched by the weekend as God planned in just 72 hours while residing in His house. The weekend wasn t about me, the team or the Emmaus community. It was all about the pilgrims knowing and feeling God s love. God used the team and the Emmaus community as his chosen disciples to show the pilgrims how much He loves them and gave His life for them. God has a plan for the pilgrims of WW#59 and each one of you. He chose you to be His child; He is leading you on a journey to serve Him just as He led me on an amazing journey as Lay Director. It has been a joy to see some of the pilgrims of WW #59 attend gatherings and serve at an Emmaus walk. God s love and grace is shining through them so that others may see and believe. Wherever life may take you, God is there blessing you with His gifts, great and small. I am praying that the pilgrims will nurture their faith as they continue on their journey by seeking God, asking him for more knowledge, patience, wisdom, love, and understanding. God will open the door and give them to you His love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:8) I would like to thank the ladies of WW#59 team and the Emmaus Community for all their prayers, support, and for being the disciples that God called them to be on WW#59 weekend. We are to use our different gifts in accordance with the grace that God has given us.whoever shares with others should do it generously. (Romans 12:6, 8) I would also like to thank the board for all their support, words of encouragement, and prayers during my journey as Lay Director. I was humbled to be asked to be the Lay Director for WW#59. God is always in control and all I had to do was pray, follow and trust Him. I will always cherish the memories and the love of Christ that was so freely given on WW#59. Blessings, Peggy Ware

Plogger Brian Smith Darren Stephens Kenneth Stewart Jeremy Vining Joseph Welker Thoughts to share from the Lay Director of MW #55 Who Do You Serve? Every Emmaus Walk is the same. Every Emmaus Walk is different. Kind of sounds like the answer to an important question I ve often heard: yes and no. How can that be? It s one or the other, right? Each walk should be the same. The positions that make up the team, the facilities, the talks, the music, how the tables work, the good food, prayer, the video on Thursday night (how many times does the dog bark?), building spiritually-led leaders for the church, and so forth. Each walk is different. The number of pilgrims, the personality of the team, the special music shared, the sponsors, many of those that serve behind the scenes, the camaraderie of the team and pilgrims, the picture, and so forth. The linchpin of this whole endeavor, however, is what makes it work time and time again and is what makes it a success for everyone involved, regardless of their capacity. Service. We serve each other on the team. We serve the pilgrims. We serve behind the scenes. We serve by cooking, singing, sponsoring, cleaning, attending, writing agape, sharing a talent, giving, setting up and praying-there s a lot of prayer! Most importantly- we serve the Risen Lord!!! We can all serve, and we re all needed, so make certain your contact information is up to date-especially your phone number. If you want to serve on a team and haven t been asked-tell someone. If you want to serve by sponsoring a pilgrim, do so, but take it seriously. Don t wait to be asked to serve..offer your service. There s a lot of work that is required to make a weekend work. It takes lots of willing servants. It takes many different talents. It takes each and every one of us. Just remember WHO you are serving.the Risen Lord!!! Jim Liggett

This year s picnic will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 6 p.m. Bring a covered dish to share and don t forget your lawn chairs. Meat, drinks and table service will be provided. This is a wonderful opportunity to get together in a very relaxed atmosphere to socialize with your Emmaus family. You certainly don t want to miss this one! See ya on the 13 th!!

7 Your Emmaus Board in Action At our June board meeting, a resolution to amend an Article in our Code of Regulations, also known as bylaws, was passed to assure that the bylaws are current, accurate and appropriate for our community. This change was voted on and passed by the Board members present and is effective immediately. Therefore, be it resolved that: 1. Resolution dated 01/25/07 regarding Article V, Trustees, Section 1. Composition be changed back to Code of Regulations original wording to read as follows: The Board shall consist of: twenty (20) elected lay trustees, comprised of seventeen (17) work area chairpersons and three (3) leadership positions (the Community Spiritual Director and one (1) or two (2) Assistant Community Spiritual Directors). 2. Further Clarification and specifics to this resolution there is no longer a Child Care position and the Newsletter/Outreach position has been broken into two separate positions. The seventeen (17) work area chairperson positions are now as follows: Agape, Women s Good Shepherd, Men s Good Shepherd, Kitchen, Literature, Logistics, Music, Outreach, Newsletter, Women s Registration, Men s Registration, Secretary, Social, Sponsorship, Supplies, Treasurer and Worship.

If you answered yes to any of the above questions then look no further as WE ARE HERE TO HELP!! The Emmaus Board is sponsoring a Day of Training to cover these topics and possibly a few more.

Are you currently not in a share group and interested in either joining one or form a new one in your area? Would you like to know how to give an effective, informative and passionate talk? If you answered yes to any of the above questions then look no further as WE ARE HERE TO HELP!! The Emmaus Board is sponsoring a Day of Training to cover these topics and possibly a few more. This training will be held on Saturday, September 14 th at Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center, OH. Registration will begin at 8 a.m and will include light refreshments and the training sessions will follow and last for approximately 45 minutes. The training will conclude at noon. Preregistration is preferred so that we can provide an adequate amount of supplies and food for everyone. You may Pre-register at Emmaus_outreach@yahoo.com This training doesn t happen very often so you will want to take advantage of it.
