I have a couple of questions for you to think about. Is your light shining? Do people in your circle of influence see Jesus when they are in your company? Are you walking the talk? We talk about these kinds of things a lot at Emmaus functions, don t we? At Emmaus Candlelights, on Emmaus Weekends and at various other Emmaus events, we sing Let Your Light Shine. This, and my old childhood favorite This Little Light of Mine, always gets me to thinking. Jesus reminds us to let our light shine. Think of it this way - before a movie begins they show previews for upcoming movies. The clips are always of the most exciting scenes the love scenes, fight scenes, chase scenes, funny scenes. They show you the best clips because they want to entice you to come and buy a ticket to that movie. The movie may be terrible, but you would never know that by the previews. As Christians, your life and mine are sort of like a movie preview clip to those around us. People are watching us: our children, our friends, our grandchildren, coworkers, strangers, neighbors. They are watching what we say, how we live, how we treat others. They are getting a glimpse of Christ in us. What do they see? What are we showing them? Jesus said, Shine. Live in such a way they get a glimpse of God s goodness, graciousness, generosity, mercy, forgiveness, and love. Let God s best shine through you. Reflect the light of Jesus in such a way that people want to know where they can buy a ticket to get what you have. When that happens, you get to say, You don t have to buy a ticket. God s love is free. Hopefully, Emmaus has helped to brighten and keep your light shining. Couple that with at least a weekly Sunday seat in your Church pew, some daily time in the Good Book and a daily devotional, and surrounding yourself with Christian friends. That combination will certainly keep your light shining bright!!! Looking forward to seeing you at an Emmaus Gathering or Candlelight soon. Share the Love. Fritz

We have all been there when we have opened up a letter and been touched by words of encouragement and love. Another aspect of agape is in the joy of giving it to pilgrims and team members. Please remember, that although giving and receiving agape is an important part of an Emmaus weekend, it is not the main focus. In order to not allow it to over shadow the reason that we are there, we would like to stress AGAIN that super agape is not appropriate on a weekend. Super agape can be distractive and disruptive and even cause a sense of disappointment for those who do not receive super agape and witness someone else receiving it. A simple guideline to follow is that if it doesn t fit in the manila envelope that every one receives, then it shouldn t be given on the weekend. In addition, super agape for team members and prayer partners is also discouraged. And, yes...this includes everyone. The Agape room is very busy throughout the weekend and an overabundance of super agape makes their job very difficult. Please be respectful of this repeated request to not give super agape. And let s face it...it s just stuff. I m sure we all agree that a personal letter written from the heart is so much more meaningful.

5 Welcome to the Emmaus Community Pilgrims of Men s Walk #56 August 1-4, 2013 Josh Bailey Patrick Bayman Zach Bemus Dub Dayton Kevin Kelly Matt Kipker Tony Knott Jerry Noble Abbie Saba Luke Stroud Jermey Sutton Dustin Manger Herb Minchew How is it with your soul? Do you need a little encouragement? Do you have questions about a Bible teaching? Do you just need to get together with someone and talk? There s no place like a Share Group! Joining together and learning is the way Jesus taught us to learn our faith. In community, there is natural teaching and accountability. This keeps us strong in our convictions and habits. Jesus sent his disciples out in groups so they could build each other up for the task ahead. And we cannot learn spiritual qualities such as forgiveness, grace, love, justice, and humility by ourselves, but only by practicing our faith with others. If you need to find a Share Group, please let us know. We d love to find a place where you can talk with others about Jesus. Call Marlaine Schneider, Women s Good Shepard at or mtjsschneider@gmail.com or Men s Good Shepard, John Oakley at or mail johnandtina@bright.net May God bless you all.

6 Greater Sidney Area Emmaus Database Registration Info Welcome to the GSAE database site. We will have a better understanding as to who wants to serve on teams, in the Kitchen, supplying Agape, Blessing us with Music, etc. or whatever your God given gifts might be. The following is the info needed to be able to enter into our site to check and correct your info. You will not be able to change any info on anybody but yourself. You can see who was on your original walk, and what teams you have served on and to what capacity you served. Once in the site, you will also be able to see what is going on in the community, such as, upcoming walks with Team Member Names and Pilgrims as they are confirmed to a walk, gathering dates/calendar and other events. There will be a place for the prayer vigil/prayer requests. You will also have access to the Board member list. If you have any questions or need something updated or corrected that you cannot do yourself, please me at Emmaus_outreach@yahoo.com (that is Emmaus_ outreach) and I will correct them as soon as possible. Corinne Olson (937) Outreach/Database Coordinator Ok so let s get started The website address is Your user name will be your address or if that doesn t work enter your FIRST.LAST name (be sure you put the period in between the first and last name). The default password is gsagsa Once you are in, it will prompt you to change your password. Please do so at this time. You should now be in the site. Look at the blue tab bar. Find YOU and highlight it with your cursor until you get the drop down box. Click on All About You. You will get another blue tab bar. Go to the Information tab and you will get a drop down box again. Click on Name/Contact and the information window will come up with your name, address, phone number, church info, etc. Please correct any and all info. If you no longer have a house phone and the number is still in there, please remove it so we don t try to call a number that is no longer used. Make sure your cell phone number is in the correct location and the number is correct. If you want your work number listed feel free to do so. Once you have checked and/or corrected your info please click on the UPDATE INFO button. If you had to use the FIRST.LAST name as your user ID you can change it under the YOU tab with the drop down box to Change your sign in info and enter in the same address that we have in the Name/Contact info section that we just checked and/or corrected. Ok, so now we have all your info updated and you want to check out the rest of the database that you have access to. Let s go check out your experiences. Go to the Experience tab and on the drop down box, click on Your Weekend. This is or should be the weekend you attended as a Pilgrim. Make sure that it is the correct walk number. (This is where there were some questions as I was going through the old info that was passed down to me through several different outlets. Trying to figure out which walk everyone either attended as a Pilgrim or served as a Team Member. There will be some discrepancies; I need you to help me get them corrected. So again, if you find something wrong, please me at the address I listed above and I will get them corrected as soon as possible) The left hand column is the Team that served you as a Pilgrim. The right hand column is your fellow Pilgrims. You can click on the

7 Data base directions continued magnifying glass to see their info if you would like to contact them and play catch-up. Be warned though that some addresses and phone numbers might not have been corrected yet. Now if you go back to your Experience tab and drop down box, click on Team Experience, you can see what teams you have served on and what position you have served as well as which talks you have given. You can also go to the Church Community tab and it will list everyone from the same church as you attend. You might actually be surprised as to who has gone on the walk and how long ago they attended. I know I was. Ok enough about you, let s get into the Community info. Go to the Community tab on the top bar and again the drop down box appears. Click on Directory. Simply enter in a last name and it will give you a list of people to choose from if you are looking for someone in particular, this is a good place to go. PLEASE READ THIS To update your personal information Community drop down box and Board. Here you will find the members of the Board of Directors and their positions. Feel free to contact any one of these people for any reason. If they don t have an answer for you they will be sure to get you one. Community drop down box, Upcoming Weekends. This is a list of the next several weekends and the Lay Directors who have been chosen to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus. Community drop down box, Weekend History shows the past walks and the Lay Directors for each. I am still updating some of the earlier walks from old files. Community drop down box, Calendar will be updated as we have new weekends planned, special Gatherings scheduled such as the Picnic in the Park, and Board meetings. All are invited to these. So there you have it. This is the basics of the site. You can look at all the tabs, I just wanted to get you familiar with the main ones. Corinne

8 A note of thanks... From the Board Thank to everyone who made our Training Day on Saturday, September 14th a success! Thanks to Grace Lutheran Church, Jackson Center, for hosting the event, for the delicious breakfast, and beautiful hospitality. We all were made to feel very welcome! Thank you to our dedicated community members who presented the various workshops: Fritz Serr and Rudy Ruppert at Sponsorship, Curt Hostetler at Music, Carol Foster at Agape, Lisa Newcomer at Serving Emmaus, Terry Sharp at Giving a Talk, Ed and Ricki Maxwell at Clowns, and Pastor Bill Halter at Clergy. If interest continues, we would like to offer a training day like this once a year. There is a lot of important information to share with new and experienced community members at these sessions. If you were not able to attend the training day and have questions, feel free to contact any board member. We will help or find the right people to answer your needs. Blessings, Lisa Newcomer, Vice Chairman 2013 in Review We are now in the fourth quarter of 2013 already. As this is the last newsletter for the year, I wanted to take a look back at the year-inreview for our Emmaus Community. It has been another wonderful year as our Community has been richly blessed over and over again. As I write this, four Walks have already been completed and two additional Walks have teams currently meeting and preparing for the October and November Walks. From the four Walks completed, another 95 Pilgrims have joined the Community. We have had ten Gatherings to date this year, ten opportunities to reunite with Community members, listen to heart-warming Fourth Day Talks, enjoy wonderful music and Community singing, share in Holy Communion and take in inspiring mediations from our Spiritual Directors, and, of course, when Emmaus meets, Emmaus eats. In August, we held our annual Gathering picnic with over 250 Community members, family and friends in attendance. In September, an Emmaus Training event for the Community held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jackson Center, Ohio with approximately 50 Community members in attendance for seven different training sessions offered along with a closing worship and praise service. Comments from those in attendance were most favorable, so perhaps this will become an annual or every other year event and grow in attendance. Now that it is October, Women s Walk #61 (October 17 th -20 th ) which will be led by Allie Kuhn is quickly approaching and November brings Men s Walk #57 (November 7 th -10 th ) which will be led by Brad Esser. It has been a blessed and wonderful year for The Greater Sidney Area Emmaus Community. Thank You to all those who work quietly and tirelessly in the background to make our Community the servant-community that it is. God Bless!! Fritz, Chairman
