1 Vol. 30, No. 4 Huntsville Elks Lodge No FROM THE EXALTED RULER Congratulations to all officers that were installed this past month. The installation banquet included a wonderful dinner and elegant decorations. Thanks to all who helped make this possible. We also had the best turnout in years for our Easter Egg Hunt held this past month. Again, a special thanks those who supported this event. Thanks to all who supported our fund raising effort with the Boston BBQ butt sales. As promised, these funds will be used for facility improvements. Our first priority is to improve the air quality (remove smoke) throughout our lodge. This has been made clear to be our top priority. Options are being evaluated at this time and a solution will be determined and implemented as soon as possible. I still have a couple of committee appointments to finalize, so I will defer until next month to announce all of those at the same time. On the financial planning agenda, the Governoring Board will meet on May 8 to put together these numbers. Then this (proposed) budget will be made available for review and voted on by the full lodge at a later lodge meeting. Our solution(s) to facility needs will be a part of this process. The newly appointed Party Committee has held their first meeting and will be announcing upcoming events very soon. You can expect there to be regular events throughout this summer as well as the balance of our lodge year. Stay tuned for details as they are finalized. We have our Youth Awards Banquet, Golf Tournament, Alabama Elks State Convention, Rock and Roll Reunion and Grand Lodge Convention during the next two months. Hope to see you all at these event. Come out and support your lodge. There will also be other events announced as details are confirmed. 4 TAXES Now that we've all filed our taxes, let's do something fun! Jay has asked that we see if there is any interest in cooking and/or eating. For years we've had members and/or spouses that have cooked fantastic food. We don't want to plan an event without your input. We need ideas. Is there interest in sharing recipes, having competitions besides chili, cornbread and grilling? A tasting fair? A recipe collection? If you are interested in voicing your opinion and sharing ideas, please contact me, Lee May (256) , leeandjim@comcast.net, or simply drop a note at the bar. Please include your phone number and/or address. I will compose a list of those who respond by May 30. Then I'll contact everyone and schedule a brain-storming session. Please respond.
