ROZMAN BROS. APPLIANCES TV FURNITURE Next weekend at all the Masses I will give our Annual Report regarding where we stand financially in the parish. But I thought that I would give you a bit of a preview beforehand. First, I can say we are in pretty good shape financially but we can also do a whole lot of improving. We have money in savings. We have been able to make many contributions to charity. We have received generous contributions from individuals both in the form of memorials and as bequests. Our fundraising (the Festival) did great this year. And our Christmas and Easter collections were the highest amounts we ever brought in! But we still had a deficit for the fiscal year Our income is not keeping up with our expenses. This year we had a deficit on the school side of $87,000 and on the parish side roughly $55,000. There are lots of reasons for that but in the end we had savings from our school and from our parish that covered the gap. The real problem we have here at St. Joan of Arc is that our ordinary income (Sunday offerings) is not keeping up with ever-expanding expenses. The last time a pastor spoke about the need to increase our Sunday offering was when Father Burger came to be your pastor in As you can imagine, the collections have remained stagnant while the expenses have only gone up and up. Next week I will talk about some of the ways we can address this issue but basically it will mean asking for those who are faithful givers to increase your Sunday offering; for those who are not giving to begin to give something; to address the convenience of online giving; and also to connect all of this with the concepts of stewardship and evangelization. I know that we can do this together! God bless you all! Our parish s Pastoral Council has been discussing options for additional handicapped parking during Masses. Four additional spaces will be marked with temporary handicap signage in the main rectory parking lot across from the church during the weekends of November 12/13 & 19/20. The use of these spaces will be observed and recorded. If this accommodation will be of benefit to you, please take advantage of it.

5 St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church PARISH MINISTRY NEWS, MEETINGS, & EVENTS It's Time for a Spiritual Audit! In virtually every aspect of Life, corporate, athletic, education etc., there is a constant evaluation process to measure growth and improvement. Now it is a good time to assess our spiritual progress. Have we made a difference? If God were totally our "faith in action" would He be pleased with what we have done (or failed to do)? Evils plague our society, such as abortion, pornography "comprehensive sex" education, tax funding of Planned Parenthood, and other anti-god, anti-life and anti-family issues. As Christians, we know that the Bible commands us to be active in serving God. Service is an action word, so we know that we cannot serve God by sitting on the sidelines, or being a "fence sitter". Are we as Catholics influencing our world, or is today's relativism and secularism influencing us much more? Are we setting an example to the next generation to protect marriage and to defend life, from conception until natural death, or are we just "passively" pro-life? Do we speak up when in a position to defend innocent life? Do we hold our elected representatives accountable? Obviously, we cannot do it all, but we can certainly do something! Literally, thousands of lives are at stake each and every day. If we do nothing we collude with the pro-aborts, the purveyor of pornography and those that wish to remove God from society. By doing nothing, we reap what they sow! Newly Married We congratulate & rejoice with these couples of our parish community whom recently united in marriage: Neil Sullivan & Emily Marlin Anthony Calvello, IV & Anne Marie O Holla Benjamin Hagan & Sarah Drobnock Newly Baptized Our parish community welcomes these newly baptized children of God: Bowen Ferry, Shane Reiley, Olivia Tulli, Gianmarco Hansman Hershey, Pennsylvania NEWS CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: The St. Joan of Arc Council of Catholic Women thanks everyone who supported our Christmas Bazaar in any way! It was a very successful event and proceeds will benefit our parish. Winners of our raffle baskets and craft items are: Money Tree - Carol Walters Mother Teresa Basket - Betsy Ingraham Coffee/Tea Basket - Joe English Bath & Body Basket #1 - Marie Bowman Bath & Body Basket #2 - Carol Luciani Basket of Cheer - Anna Murray Pasta Baket - Rose Zaccagnini Candle Basket - Ann Hess Art Basket - Mary Ann Wayne Candy Basket - Carol Luciani Family Game Night - Katie Freisen Christmas Lap Afghan - Rosemary Connolly ATTENTION YOUNG ADULTS (Age 21-35) Our Young Adult Ministry meets on the 2 nd and 4 th Wednesday of the month from 7-8:30pm in Meeting Room C. We will not have a meeting on November 23 rd. If you are interested or have any questions, please call John in the Youth Office at Ext 128 or him at stjaonofarclifeteen@gmail.com. This year s Caring Cards and Calendars collection was a great success. With the help of wonderful volunteers, we completed the sorting and boxing in record time with more boxes and even a greater number of pounds than last year. In 2015, we processed 11 boxes weighing a total of 340 pounds. This year we filled 13 boxes totaling 412 pounds of cards and calendars. You, our generous donors, also helped expedite the process by matching more cards with envelopes and by donating more appropriate cards. On behalf of our Living Our Faith members and our brothers in the Camp Hill State Prison system, thank you! You will brighten many lives and keep the flame of hope burning for those who often feel they have none. Please keep saving cards (don t forget those after- Christmas sales too!) and watch for those 2018 wall calendars. See you next year.

6 NOVEMBER 13, 2016 THANK YOU for your support of our volunteer s trip to Father Beiting Appalachian Mission Center in Louisa, Kentucky. Because of your generosity, we were able to help a family complete improvements to their home before the winter weather set in. This building was an addition to an old mobile home. We were able to rebuild much of the foundation, replaced some of the exterior paneling, build soffits on part of the building and extended the roof over one of the doors. The owner had collected six different styles of exterior siding in four different colors. We were able to install siding around the whole house with some added materials from the Mission Center. We also installed skirting around three sides of their home. We helped the homeowner install insulation in the attic and installed 4 of the 5 doors inside of their home (we had to order the last door, which the homeowner will install). This trip would not have been possible without your encouragement, prayers and financial support. Because of your generosity, this family will have a warm, secure place to live before the winter weather sets in. 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time "I THIRST" PRAYER GROUP Please join us as we continue THE WILD GOOSE series on Wednesday evening November 16th. at 7pm in the cafeteria. Our topic will be "The Spirit of Adoption". The video presentation will be followed by small group discussion and reflection. Come quench your thirst for God. Follow us on Facebook at: ITHIRSTSJA Does your family know how you want to be cared for if you suddenly fall ill and can t speak for yourself? Discussing death and dying with our families is one of the most important things we can do to improve our own lives and the lives of our loved ones. Nurses from Penn State Health Community Outreach invite you to join us to play an engaging card game about end of life issues. The game includes questions about a variety of topics related to life, death and dying. For more information visit Nov. 16 or Nov. 21 (Choose a date!) In the SJA School Library from 7-9pm. Pre-registration is preferred but walk-ins are welcome.
