1 The Messenger JUNE From Pastor Kleinschmidt I m going to use my normal space for an article and devote some space to pictures of the construction of the church from ten years ago. I was installed as pastor at St. Jakobi in June, 2008 and the building was not yet even 2 years old. I made visits to as many people s homes who desired and I would ask people what they could tell me about the congregation and I shared a bit about myself and gave a devotion. In my conversations with people, I heard repeatedly about how the congregation really pulled together to build this sanctuary; how it was a group effort. I also heard how some people who were initially against the new building became ones who spent considerable time on the construction site. Another common comment was how thankful people were that they were given the ability by the Lord to help in this project in some way. 2016; Vol. 05, Issue 6 A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF ST. JAKOBI LUTHERAN CHURCH IN SHAWANO, WI As we look back on that summer, it is good to think of all those things and the blessings we have been given in this building. The Kingdom of God continues to come to us in Word and Sacrament and the building serves as that initial place where God s love comes to us so that we can then bring that love to the loveless world we live in. We are only about 5 years away from paying off our loan on the building and that too is a real blessing. We have not struggled in the payments and are, in fact, well ahead of schedule. I pray that the Lord would continue to bless us with the Word of God and the Sacrament of the Altar so that we can be the light set on a hill to a world that sits in darkness. In Christ, -Pastor Kleinschmidt 1

3 LIBRARY NEWS PLANTING SEEDS (DVD) Its 1878 and Jake Kincaid has just been released from prison for a crime he did not commit. His heart is seeking vengeance on those responsible for landing him in jail, but he's also very interested in finding the gold he is accused of stealing. In his quest, Kincaid finds himself in the small lumber town of Fairplay, California. Here he meets an independent woman trying to do it all on her own, and a mischievous little girl with a quest of her ownfinding something to fill her lonely heart. Fairplay is where Kincaid learns that love is far more powerful than hate and that redemption is more precious than gold. NEWSLETTER IN COLOR The pictures in the newsletter look great in color plus you can zoom in for more detail! You can receive a copy of the newsletter in color and save the church the printing cost by signing up for delivery. You can sign up at 30 BOOKS OF THE BIBLE Can you find the books of the Bible below? Answers are in bold to last month s puzzle. This is a most remarkable puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket on a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu keeping him occupied for hours. He enjoyed it so much he passed it on to some friends. One friend from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his John boat. Another friend studied it while playing the banjo. Elaine Taylor, a columnist friend was so intrigued by it she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend judges the job of solving the puzzle so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help her nerves. There will be some names that are real easy to spot. That's a fact. Some people, however, will soon find themselves in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or scholar to see some of them at the worst. Research has shown that something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in the paragraph. During a recent fund raising event which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade booth set a new sales record. The local paper, The Chronicle, surveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As Daniel Humana humbly puts it, "The books are right there in plain view hidden from sight." Those able to find them all will hear great lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation that may help is that books like Timothy and Samuel may occur without their numbers. Also keep in mind, that punctuation and spaces in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete really well against those who claim to know all the answers. Remember, there is no need for a mad exodus, there really are 30 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in this paragraph waiting to be found. God bless. 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF CHURCH CONSTRUCTION 10 years ago construction of the new church was progressing. Construction continued all summer until the dedication on Reformation Day, October 29 th, These pictures are taken from the scrapbook that is found by the mailboxes in the Narthex. 3
