1 PHONE: (972) Lt. Thomas "Tom" Dennis Turpin February 10, February 9, 2019 Lieutenant Thomas Tom Dennis Turpin of McKinney, Texas passed away February 9, 2019, at the age of 55. He was born February 10, 1963, in Patuxent River, Maryland to Larry and Judy Arlene Turpin. Tom was a 1981 graduate of Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas prior to graduating from Letourneau University in Longview, Texas with a major in business. In January of 1990, Tom joined the McKinney Police Department. He worked there until transferring to the Collin County Sherriff Office in In 1998, Tom returned to the McKinney Police Department and earned the highest lieutenant ranking within his career of twenty-nine years. He is survived by his son, Travis S. Turpin of Sulphur Springs, Texas; grandsons, Logan Turpin and Brantlee Turpin also o Sulphur Springs; parents, Larry and Judy Turpin; brother, Kenneth Turpin and wife, Kathy; sister, Tamara Shelby and husband, Bruce; niece, Allison Shelby; and nephew, Carter Turpin all of Arlington, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2019 at Christ Fellowship Church in McKinney, Texas with Pastor Bruce Miller officiating. Interment is to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Texas in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Memorials May you Rest In Peace, Tom. I also remember what he said when he found out I was to be his training officer. In his words, " Oh God. Not that Blonde headed guy." Tom made it thru training and was cut lose on his own where he became a fine officer. Tom went on to lead and supervise many other young officers and old officers alike.
