1 The Senior Connection Volume 7 Issue 3 Rendering Praise and Service to God Whose Power is Sufficient to Sustain Us Rev. Dr. Lee A. Earl, Senior Pastor Loving Others as Christ Loves Us, Making Disciples for the Kingdom The lazy days of Summer!! May we enjoy the season, family, friends, vacations! TAKING JESUS CHRIST EVERYWHERE! ENJOY!!! Another Sold Out Affair! On Friday, June 20th, the Sr. Ministry held it s annual Crab Feast. 120 guest feasted on crabs, chicken, fish, potato salad, cole slaw, Corn on the cob, baked beans, rolls, soda, water and dessert s. The Profit will be used for our annual holiday party which will be held on December 12, Protect Yourself From Heat Stress Spend as much time as you can in cool surroundings. Use fans and air conditioners to cool your home. Slow down and take it easy. Physical activity produces extra body heat. Wear light-weight, light-colored, loose fitting clothing. Cotton is a light, airy fabric. Wear a hat or use an umbrella to protect your head and neck when you are outdoors. Drink plenty of water. Don't wait until you are thirsty. By then, you may already be dehydrated. Watch what you eat. Avoid eating hot foods or heavy meals. Use your stove as little as possible and cook during the coolest part of the day. Take cool baths or showers. Cool water can remove body heat 25 times faster than cool air. Avoid drinking alcohol. Inside this issue: Message from Newsletter Staff 2010 Beautification Project 2 3 Fall Outing 7 Excellence in Aging Award Keeping in prayer Looking Ahead 11
2 A Word from The Newsletter Staff To our seniors and friends, Always be prayerful..because The Lord will provide!! In lieu of our chairperson s regular words, the following is a tribute and plea. One of the characteristics of a great leader is knowing when to pass the baton...knowing that A Change Is Gonna Come. We supported, witnessed and welcomed the change of our President Barack Obama; cheering the change! Sis. Ethel & Bro. Charles H. Nelson, Sr. and their family have worked diligently for the good of the Seniors Ministry. We applaud, appreciate and love them for all they ve done! With this in mind..the plea! The year is half over. We need to be looking forward to next year and thinking about new leadership. No... the Nelsons are not leaving...just stepping back and taking a much deserved rest! They will be here in an advisory capacity. Please search your minds, hearts and spirits in how we can all be of service in uplifting The Lord through SBC Senior Ministry. Sincerely, The Newsletter Staff Therefore Stand firm Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord. Because you know that your labor is the Lord is not in Vain. 1 Corinthians 15: Senior Ministry Newsletter of Shiloh Baptist Church
