2 Life Reflections First Lady Sarah Jane Cain Brown was born on July 10, 1935 in Gloster, Mississippi to the late Robert and Aline Cain. She was the second of seven children. She attended Amite County Schools and Cuyahoga Community College. As a child, she attended Star Hill Methodist Church. Sarah was united in marriage to Roosevelt Brown on July 28, To this union six children were born, one deceased; Rev. Dr. Randy Brown (Constance) Cleveland, OH; Rev. Eric Brown (Linda) Montgomery, AL; Darrell Brown (Chris), Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Shirley Louisor (John), King George, VA; and Terry Williams, Cleveland, OH. Sister Sarah Brown joined Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she served until Rev. Roosevelt Brown was called into the ministry to become the Pastor of Corinthian Baptist Church. Sister Brown served as First Lady at Corinthian Baptist Church for forty-eight years, until Rev. Brown s retirement. As First Lady, Sarah served as a Deaconess, Sunday school teacher, coordinator, advisor and facilitator for many of the Women s Day celebrations and activities. Sister Brown served as President of the Minister s Wives division of the Progressive Baptist District Association, and was a mentor to several young minister s wives. Sarah was employed by Woodhill Chemical for several years, and was also employed by the state of Ohio as a day-care provider. She enjoyed providing a safe, loving and nurturing environment for the children of working parents. Sarah was an excellent cook, known for her fabulous sweet potato pies and pound cakes. She enjoyed traveling and visiting her family abroad, making trips to England, Scotland, France, Israel, and throughout the United States. Sister Sarah Brown leaves to cherish her memory her five children and 14 Grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and two great,great grandchildren. She will also be missed by two sisters, Evelyn (JC), and Clisty. Also cherishing her memory is a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. Humbly Submitted, The Family

5 Letters to Sarah Tribute For My Mother When I read this poem, I could not help but think of my Mom. My Mother loved flowers as far back as I can remember. One constant, other than cooking, was flowers. Mama was going to plant flowers in her yard wherever she was living, and I believe she s on her knees in heaven planting flowers. If Roses Grow in Heaven By Dolores M. Garcia If roses grow in heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for me, Place them in my Mother s arms and tell her they re from me. Tell her I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while. Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day, but there s an ache within my heart that will never go away. We love and miss you so much Ma Eric, Linda & Family Mom, You raised me to love God, and know that I could trust Him with all my heart. You are a living example of what it means to be a Christian woman in every aspect of your life, and that with Christ, I could do all things. You encouraged me to soar, and let me know that nothing was impossible. You taught me that family must stick together and love one another, just because we are family, and that is what matters.
