This Issue: Commander s Message 1 Commander s Message of the Month It is renewal of membership time and we need for you get those renewals in so you can come to the early bird dinner that is free. Andy and Napoleon have been working very hard to keep up with your renewal and 2016 Membership card. I would like to thank Dave Gutierrez for his work in patching up and painting the window and wall near mirror in the men s bathroom. Please mark your calendars for up and coming events. It is easy to forget or ignore the events that we work hard to provide you. All the work and cooking is done by volunteers. We really need your support. I want to share the things that we have completed the last couple months. We had a blood drive with 10 units being donated, a visit to the L-1 Ward in the VA hospital in Long Beach and a Luau for your pleasure. We will be having a Spaghetti w/garlic bread dinner for $5.00 every third Monday of the month. Remember to call 211 when one of our veterans is in trouble. 2 Page 2 The Chaplain s Pulpit Here it is September and as this report I have good news we haven't had any members passing on to the Post Everlasting. I know it is very difficult to get news to others when a love one passes on to the Post Everlasting and I even have a hard time reporting it but please if you can let me know so we can Honor that Important Brother or Sister. This is to be observed at 3:00 PM local time. So please take the time every year on Memorial Day to remember all those great men and women who have fallen in the line of duty defending our great Country. God Bless America! I know Memorial Day has already passed, but a lot of people didn't know this. I want to give you just a little information about Memorial Day, the day when we Honor our fallen Hero's. In December 2000 a Congressional resolution known as the National Moment of Remembrance was Passed which asks that all Americans on Memorial Day to voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a moment of moment of silence or listening to Taps. Remember you can pay your 2016 Dues at the Post or mail them in. I will expedite your card back to you ASAP. Stay away from going on line. 3 Auxiliary Unit 555 MEMBERSHIP It s that time again when membership dues is upon us. Please help us meet our goals and send in your dues as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation. Page 3 Ladies Tea this month. So continue to check the Marauder for our special events throughout the year. We truly appreciate all of the support you have shown us in our fundraising events for supporting our veterans. AUXILIARY NEWS: At our last meeting we were delighted to have our Girls State representatives join us and share their experiences from their week stay at Claremont McKenna College where over 500 other girls throughout the state participated. Miss Karen Neilson was chosen Treasurer for her city, and Miss Lisa Nguyen was Director of Housing Affairs for hers. LAUA LAST MONTH As you can see from the pictures, the Post was transformed into a tropical paradise, the food was wonderful, and the entertainment outstanding we even had Elvis in the house! See the fun pictures below. DINNERS: The Auxiliary has decided since we are doing Taco Thursdays every week which has been increasing at a very steady pace, and in the past the monthly dinner attendance was dwindling, we will discontinue our monthly dinner and only do special dinners and events throughout the year like our luau last month, and our SPECIAL EVENT LADIES TEA: Saturday, September 19, 2015, 1:00 3:00 p.m. The Auxiliary will be presenting a Ladies Tea in the annex building as a fundraiser for our veteran s projects. ADVANCE PUR- CHASE TICKETS FOR $10 are available from Auxiliary members or you can R.S.V.P. by calling or text Kay Hamby (714) , otherwise tickets will be $12 at the door. We will also have live music by Harpist and Proud U.S. Marine wife, Kate Huntley performing. So Ladies invite your friends, put on your festive hats if you so desire, and join us for a couple of hours of relaxing music, wonderful food, desserts, and possible other surprises. 5 Page 5 October 3, 2015 is our Annual Fun Run with proceeds to benefit OUR HEROS DREAMS. If you haven t been by Post 555 please do and pick up some flyers. As a chapter we need your help in making this a successful event. If you can help out contact me or anyone on the E -Board. What will be different this year than in the past is that we will have Food Trucks instead of barbequing. Also this year we will not have vendors in the parking lot as in the past. Most of the vendors will be at Post 716 for ALR Chapter 716 event Legion of the Silver Rose. One of the stops on the ride will be stopping there to help support them. Registration for the ride will start at 0800 and the ride will began after opening ceremonies at In the latest issue of HOG, there is an article called Heroes Ride Free. Mission Open American Legion Riders Chapter 555 Road, the program is open to all active-duty, retired, reservists, and veterans provides free motorcycle rider training through the Harley-Davidson Rider Academy. Go to your local dealer or visit h-d.com/military. I would like to welcome our newest member to our chapter and to American Legion Post 555 Scott Stazenski. Scott has already volunteered to help TJ with the Raffle prizes, Raffle distribution, gift baskets etc. The new Chapter 555 By-Laws are almost complete with many changes from our original in Once the membership agrees and has voted to accept it as written it will be dated and signed, it will be forwarded to the ALR DOC and will be loaded onto the ALR Chapter 555 yahoo group site. The anniversary of 9/11/2001 is here again it is hard to believe that it has already been 14 years. There will be many events to participate in as there is every year. I am sure that Cook s Corner will be hosting again this Chapter 555 Out and About year but whichever one you choose, have a great time but always ride safe. Robert M.
