3 Page 3 American Legion Riders Chapter 555 Your American Legion Riders Chapter 555 continues to be a busy group. We have remained active and look forward to our upcoming State Convention in April. The venue for the Convention was changed from Dixon in Northern California to Escondido just miles away here in Southern California. We should be able to get our full contingent of Delegates to go since it is so close to home. On January 10, 2014, we were honored to be asked by the family of Pearl Harbor Survivor, and longtime American Legion member, Claud Koch, to provide escort from the Church to his final resting place. As Riders, it is our duty to provide such service to honor any of our Legion Family that passes on to the Post Everlasting. I know that every member of our Chapter who were able to make it to the escort were humbled by the experience and very much honored to provide the escort. On a happier note; Several of our members took an overnight trip to San Diego to visit the USS Midway and stay over night in Old Town. From all accounts, it sounds like everyone had a great time! Our after meeting ride for January was a trip to Rose s Cantina in Trabuco Canyon. It was a first time visit there for the Chapter, although many of our members have stopped there on their own. It was a great place, that welcomed us with open arms and served a GREAT Mexican lunch on the outdoor patio. We had one of our larger turnouts for this ride. Great day for a ride with great people for a great lunch! Please remember and come to our 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, February 22, The Z-Bops will be providing music from noon to four. Registration opens at 9, and chili tasting begins at 1:00. Come and enjoy Chili, Salsa, Music and friends!

5 Page 5 The Chaplain s Pulpit A we approa h February we have lo t a very pe ial veteran and, a everybody know, a Pearl Harbor Survivor, Claud Ko h My man Claud ha gone onto the Po t Everla ng and he will definitely be mi ed by all who had the plea ure of knowing him Claud wa born in Brea California on Augu t 31 t 191, and grew up in the Central California town of Madera He had one brother and ix i ter, ye, ix i ter Ju t think the fun he had growing up He enli ted in the United State Navy in 1939 and erved mainly on the USS Sola e whi h wa very a ve in the Pa ifi heater during World War II On that day the will la t in infamy; when Pearl Harbor wa a a ked, Claud wa on the de k of the hip He told me he ould almo t tou h the Japane e plane flying over him Claud worked on the hip a the top ook, and a he u ed to tell me, he loved that very mu h When he wa di harged from the Navy in 1945, he later joined the Ameri an Legion Po t 555 Midway City A I men oned that he wa a ook in the Navy, he too wa a wonderful ook at the Ameri an legion Claud married a lovely lady, Elza Bee kman, in 1948 and had three hildren Shirley, Steven and enni When he wa a ivilian he worked a a Long horeman in Long Bea h, California Claud had many friend and I had the plea ure of knowing him and taking him on many different trip to other Po t and event I 'm proud to ay he wa my Veteran Brother and I loved that man I know other member felt the ame way God Ble you Claud!
