1 Beaverdam UMC & Rouzie s Chapel UMC: Two Amazing Churches, One Awesome God 2014 JUNE Issue 6 Dear Church Family, We often speak of the power of prayer. How can some words spoken aloud or silently make a powerful difference in our lives? The words cannot; but the relationship formed with God through prayer can make a world of difference in our lives and in the lives of those for whom we pray. Our Virginia Conference UMC Bishop, Young Jin Cho, encourages each of the churches in our Virginia Conference to be joined in covenant with one another to pray for the renewal of and revival in the local church, our conference and our United Methodist denomination. On May 25 th in our worship services we prayed in unison the following prayer: Renew Your church, Lord, Your people in this land. Save us from cheap words and self-deception in your service. In the power of Your Spirit, transform us, and shape us by your cross. Amen. Renewal and revival in our churches, our conference and our denomination must begin with prayer on our part and dependence in God s Holy Spirit to transform us and shape us by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on our behalf so that we can help to transform the world for Christ. Consider devoting the one minute a day it would take to pray this prayer everyday in June. At the end of those 30 days, let s all take note of the change in us and our church that the Holy Spirit has brought! With transforming hope, Claudia Enflamed Clothes Sunday, June 8 th is Pentecost the celebration of the Holy Spirit coming with wind and fire upon the believers in Jerusalem. The Christian Church was begun in those 120 believers gathered in that upper room. The color of Pentecost is red to remind us of the fire of the Holy Spirit. So put on your favorite red shirt, blouse, dress, tie, skirt or pants and come enflamed to worship that Sunday! Contacting Pastor Stallings: Church: Home: Cell: beaverdamumc@embarqmail.com

6 6 321 The Wood Ministry continues to set a new all time record every time we work. The Tuesday/Wednesday crew continues to cut, split and deliver wood from Sherry McEvoy s Alpaca farm off Beaverdam Road. During the month of May, we took over 40 truckloads of firewood off the farm and delivered it to our families. We are about 2/3 s the way through the piles of logs and will continue to work at the Alpaca farm in June until we get all the wood out of there. The spring campaign to deliver green firewood to our families and allow it to season on site is working well. The best part of the effort is that we won t have to handle the wood again this fall. We are currently up to 321 truckloads of wood delivered to our families, the most we have ever done in a single season. Here are the numbers for the past six years. Wood we deliver now is wood that will not have to be delivered this fall and will probably result in a lower number of deliveries in our season that starts on July 1, Since we have delivered so much wood this spring there is a good chance that we will take a few weeks off during the summer and have a vacation. Want to join the Wood Ministry? If you would like to help with cutting, splitting, and delivering wood to our Wood Ministry families contact Fredy Calderon at or axc609@gmail.com or Dick Lear at , rblear1@gmail.com. Deliveries are usually made on Wednesday and/or Saturday mornings. A couple hours of your time each week could make a huge difference to one of our family s lives. Thanks in advance for supporting our Wood Ministry with your time & talent, trucks, chainsaws, gas & oil, donations and the camaraderie and fellowship you provide to our group. The Friendship Book Irises are, in their rainbow of colors, one of the glories of early summer gardens. In classical mythology, Iris was portrayed as young and beautiful, the rainbow goddess, who restored the peace of Nature and was a mediator. It was said that rainbows were the paths of Iris s feet when she acted as the messenger of the goddesses. Juno, whose chariot was pulled by peacocks, is believed by some to have given her name to June, the month when many irises bloom in their glorious shades of lilac, blue, apricot, yellow, and white. TOM YOU WON T BELIEVE IT, I GOT FRONT ROW SEATING AGAIN. OH MY GOODNESS RUN UP HERE NOW, I LL SAVE IT WHILE I CAN.

Bill Perry and Fredy Calderon brought their smokers that hold approximately 30 chickens each. The set up and cooking crew arrived at 6:30 a.m. and had the first chickens on by 8:30. The whole chickens had been d-winged and butterflied, with slits cut in the breast, thigh and leg for salt. When the chickens went into the smokers they were based with butter and a liberal amount of Bill Perry s Secret BBQ Sauce was splashed on. Each time the chickens were turned over, more secret sauce was added. A total of 160 chickens were smoked during the day with the last one coming off about 2:30 and then placed in insulated containers to keep them warm. Besides a half chicken, the BBQ dinner included, baked beans, coleslaw, dinner rolls, a drink and dessert. The BBQ dinner was a huge success netting approximately $1, for the Wood Ministry to help pay for equipment, repairs, and supplies. We made a lot of money, despite not selling all of our tickets because of generous donations. The Wood Ministry would like to thank Ed Crisp for donating his awesome homemade yeast dinner rolls, Michelle Hall, for donating her fantastic multi-baked Bean casserole, Jay and Carolyn Marsh for donating incredible coleslaw, and to all those who baked delectable bundt and sheet cakes. Three highlights to the day were 1) camaraderie with the Wood Ministry and our community, 2) Teresa Hall taking BBQ chicken dinners to the residents and staff of Lake Anna Elder Care and 3) taking 40 BBQ chicken dinners with all the fix ns to the New Life for Youth Ranch. We can t thank everyone enough for your contributions and support. The Wood Ministry HUMOUR FROM THE BIBLE Pay special attention to the wording and spelling of this article. If you know the Bible even a little you will find this hilarious!!! It comes from a catholic elementary school test. Children were asked questions about the Old and New Testament. 8 Beaverdam and Rouzie s Chapel United Methodist Church P. O. Box 67 Beaverdam, Va JUG s CORNER Hi Girls and Boys, In my way of thinking, June is appreciation month; but, then again every day should be appreciated. Mark 9:41, "tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward". In Jesus name, makes it right. In May, the Wood Fairies had their bar-b-que and the chef masters did an outstanding job. A beautiful thing came out as Uncle Jay Marsh reported. The left over dinners were taken up to the group in Caroline County "New Life for Youth" and given to the guys. What a wonderful thing to do in the name of Christ. Not to be out done, the AOL Ladies have made additional lapghans for the Veterans and others at Hospice of Virginia Retreat Hospital. This now makes a total of 27 lapghans that these wonderful sisters of Christ have made. I do not know if a thank you card has been sent by the volunteer department, but I have personally heard how grateful the families are. I had one adult daughter approach me in the hall, after I laid one across his feet, and she asked if the lapghan could be taken by her mother when they left and when I told her it was made in the name of Jesus for the family she had tears in her eyes. These two groups do not give in the name of Jesus to get a thank you, but they do it because they love what they do. By the way, give your Dad or someone a hug on the 15th.
