2 Page 2 SEPTEMBER 2018 MUCC News In the Book of Isaiah (58:10) the Lord says Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and darkness around you will be as bright as noon. Pastor Greg Bouck In the Book of Acts (20:35) Luke records the words of the Apostle Paul who stated, And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: It is more blessed to give than to receive. These words spoke to my heart this day because they remind me of the faith, generosity, dedication and work ethic of so many of you. No job is too hard or too big! When an obstacle or task presents itself, we tackle it head on with passion and persistence. I m always filled with pride when we take on a ministry or an event together and often remark to friends and family how you will not find a group of finer people and harder workers than my church family! I am so proud of all of you, and I realize that you all are Volunteers and you do this out of the goodness of your heart, your love for the Lord and the Church. But know this! Volunteers are rewarded handsomely. Not with money, but with the satisfaction of knowing that the world is a better place because you have helped make it that way. You are touching lives with every good deed you do. Remember that whatever you give, be it time, talent, or treasure, it will be returned with incalculable interest. I write all of this to say it is a joy, privilege, and an honor to be your pastor. I m humbled and thankful every day that God never gave up on me and has allowed me to shepherd such a wonderful group of people. Folks, there are a lot of exciting things happening at Monticello UCC and a lot more to come. I invite you to jump on board and join us on this amazing journey that God has in store for us! With a closing thought, thank you for your kind words and support to Nancy and me during this difficult time of losing our beloved pet Mojo. I know all of you that met him loved him as well. He was very special, and our hearts are broken, but we are bouncing back and will have a new pet to introduce to all of you very soon. Blessings, Pastor Greg

4 Page 4 SEPTEMBER 2018 MUCC News MISSIONS: GLOBAL Naomi and I (Tyler) recently went to Costa Rica on a medical mission trip visiting three indigenous communities. Our team provided medical, eye, and dental care as well as the love of Jesus to over 600 people in four days! While the rest of the team facilitated the medical operations, we had the privilege of running the children s ministry and leading the worship. MUCC s generosity in funding this trip is greatly appreciated. We love you and are so blessed to be a part of a church community that prioritizes global missions. Sincerely, Pastor Tyler

5 MISSIONS: LOCAL MUCC News SEPTEMBER 2018 Page 5 Throughout the month of August, members and friends of Monticello Church donated and collected school supplies needed by students and teachers of Monticello-Browns Summit Elementary and Brown Summit Middle Schools. On Friday, August 25, Patsy Smith and Laura Smith, with extra special help from Micah Smith, delivered a carload of school supplies to these schools. In addition, each school received a $100 gift card from Office Depot. Browns Summit Elementary also received some outfits that would fit 4 and 5 year olds for an emergency change of clothes. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this special project! And a special thank you to Micah who was a big help and a big hit! Monticello-Browns Summit Elementary School

6 Page 6 SEPTEMBER 2018 MUCC News Building & Futuring Committee Update: Our new building has been named! MUCC COMMUNITY OUTREACH CENTER! At the Quarterly Church Meeting last month, those in attendance voted from a list of three names selected by vote at the Annual Meeting in January. Thanks to all for your suggestions and votes. God has blessed MUCC with some amazingly wonderful people to sit on this committee for the last 16 years and we are finally beginning to see the fruits of our labor! We have continued to meet with the architect and construction company representatives, from choosing brick and split face block colors that will complement our existing sanctuary, to reviewing and submitting the building site plan to the Guilford County Planning Department for approval. We are excited to share the floor plan of the approved building posted on the bulletin board in the hallway. Please make it a point to view and ask any committee member questions that you may have or more importantly, your positive input for the hard work and perseverance this church family has endured together. It is only by God s beautiful, amazing grace and His Will that we have arrived at this point in our endeavor. We know that we have a way to go before we reach the finish line, but with your continued prayers and financial support, we will arrive! Clyda Johnson, Co-Chair Building & Futuring Committee members Whitfield Faucette, Co-Chair; Clyda Johnson, Co-Chair Dick Faucette, Council Chair (was asked to join committee 8/21/18; his father, Horace, was an original member); Dean Green; Greg Bouck; Ginger Smothers; Jerry Smothers; Gary Smith; Jerry Smith; Dot Lambeth; Donnie Chrismon; Jamie Smothers; Hunter Smothers; & Jerry Faucette 6 I will make you extremely fruitful. Your descendants will become many nations, and kings will be among them! 7 I will confirm my covenant with you and your descendants [a] after you, from generation to generation. This is the everlasting covenant: I will always be your God and the God of your descendants after you. 8 And I will give the entire land of Canaan, where you now live as a foreigner, to you and your descendants. It will be their possession forever, and I will be their God. - Genesis 17:6-8 New Living Translation (NLT)
