5 SPRING 2012 REUNION THE BLACK WATCH CLASS The Black Watch. The Royal Highlanders. The regiment the devil calls his own. It is revered worldwide to this day. Within its venerable ranks are many who are our Brothers. These Masons traveled from Scotland to the Cincinnati Masonic Center a decade ago and filled the Scottish Rite Auditorium twice with Blue Lodge Masons clamoring to see ritual work from across the sea. This time, the Valley of Cincinnati is expanding the program into an incredible two-week experience leading straight into the Spring 2012 Reunion. Several Lodges in Hamilton, Butler, and Clermont counties will host dinners and American degrees during the two weeks, and the lads of the Black Watch Masonic Degree Team will once again display their ritual prowess as they portray the Scottish form of the Master Mason degree in Aurora Lodge in Scioto County on April 14, 2012 and the Cincinnati Masonic Center on April 19. Space is limited to 200 seats in Scioto County and 800 in the Masonic Center Auditorium! This blockbuster event promises to be the biggest in years, and it all builds up to the Black Watch Class on April 21, where the Scottish Black Watch will be received by our own Sovereign Grand Commander, Illustrious Brother John Wm. McNaughton, 33º. Brethren, this is an event that you just cannot miss!

Bro. Charles A. Chip Brigham, III, 33º, was appointed Deputy s Representative to Southeast Ohio at the recent session of the Ohio Council of Deliberation, held June 3-4, 2011, in Independence, OH. His role will include enhancing the Valley of Cincinnati s services in the region, exploring the creation of a Scottish Rite body in the area, and more. Valley Officers Present Scottish Rite Awards The 14 Ring Service, offered to all members upon their departure to the Celestial Lodge above, is regarded as one of the most important ceremonies we as Scottish Rite Masons present. It is our opportunity to pay tribute to one who was our Brother one whose hand we can no longer grasp in friendship and show his family and friends how important he was to the fraternity and the high esteem in which our deceased Brother held the Scottish Rite. Last year, boxes of funeral aprons were discovered in storage at the Cincinnati Masonic Center. In these boxes were sign-in sheets from Masonic funerals dating back to Research has shown that these aprons were used as late as These aprons are black, in the form of a triangle, bordered in gold, and marked with the delta. William N. Frank, Thrice Potent Master of Gibulum Lodge of Perfection, with the approval of Supreme Council through the Deputy for Ohio, issued these aprons to members of the 14 Ring Service Committee to be worn when performing Ring Services. L. John Lasonczyk, Deputy Master of Gibulum Lodge of Perfection and chairman of the Ring Service Committee, says: These aprons are very special to us and unique to the 14 Ring Service. They connect the Brethren who wear this apron today to those who served the Valley in an extremely important way many years ago. They re understandably proud to wear this apron, and they wear it with great respect for Masonry. If you are interested in joining the Ring Service Committee, you must be a 32 Scottish Rite Mason, able to memorize the service, and available to perform when called. Please call the Valley office at for more information. Douglas A.
