2 From Your Pastor Share and Prayer Triplets: We are a doing people. Henry Blackaby writes in his book, Experiencing God, Sometimes individuals and churches are so busy doing things they think will help God accomplish His purpose that He can t get their attention long enough to use them as servants to accomplish what He wants. We often wear ourselves out and accomplish very little of value to the kingdom. He continues, I think God is crying out and shouting to us, Don t just do something, stand there! Enter into a love relationship with Me. Get to know Me. Adjust your life to Me. Let me love you and reveal Myself to you as I work through you. A time will come when the doing will be called for, but we cannot skip the relationship. The relationship with God must come first. (p ) Working with the Deacons, I have proposed that during this summer we form Share and Prayer Triplets. Three people join together to get to know and pray for each other. The triplet also prays for our church and share where we see God at work. The Triplet is one way to follow Blackaby s suggestion that sometimes we need to just stand before God for a while before we do something. Are you considering being part of a Share and Prayer Triplet? Read about them later in this newsletter and sign-up. During the summer we often travel and become disconnected. This is a way to stay connected to others in the church and to keep growing while other programs rest. I will be travelling to the ABC/USA Bienniel Meetings in Washington DC from June 29 to July 2 nd. This year s theme is Arise and Shine from Isaiah 60:1. I always value the opportunity to - be inspired by the speakers - learn the stories of mission happening all over the world - re-connect with people I have known and make new connections with people around the country who are involved in our common mission. Nehemiah Summer Preaching Series Back in January I began my participation in the Nehemiah Leadership Network. I am now part of a mentor group who meet four times a year to learn and encourage each other to grow in our effectiveness in ministry. I am working to begin a Nehemiah Team here at First Baptist Church a small group of leaders who, with me, will help the church discern new directions that God would have us move. My recent Bible reading has been focused in the book of Nehemiah. How did Nehemiah go about the rebuilding effort in Jerusalem? What can he teach us about how to build his church in the future? During the summer I will share with you some of what I m learning and what I believe God may be saying to us through this book of the Bible. Sunday, June 3 rd I will preach the third sermon in the series, The Giver and the Gift. Sunday, July 17 th I will begin the series on the book of Nehemiah. Faithfully, Leon

5 CHURCH NEWS News from the Trustees The Trustees have been researching the purchase of round tables. It sounds like an easy task, but we want to get sturdy, easy-to-store and easy-to-setup tables. At our last meeting, we made a decision and will finalize it the beginning of June. Thanks to all of you who are keeping your pledges up to date. Just like our home expenses, the Church has its monthly bills. If you read this report, please tell Bob Doss. I get the feeling he thinks no one does. We have been getting new thermostats installed in each room in the Educational wing. This will save money and help keep us warm (or cool) at the same time. If you notice anything that needs repair or might be a safety hazard, please let us know. UNITY FELLOWSHIP Unity Fellowship will meet at the home of Erm & Laura Ferris Saturday, June 23, 6:30 p.m. for a hot dog roast. All are welcome to come and enjoy an evening of good food and fellowship. The Ferris are located at: 4586 Brookhill Drive, South, Manlius ( ). From there they will make their way to Joni and Friends where they will be refurbished and dispensed to disabled individuals living oversees through their Wheels for the World program. Our church has been a collection point for these used items for a number of years. A special thank you to Ross Binder and Bill Lyon who came out to load the trailer and secure the load. It was quite a site to see a mountain of wheelchairs ready to head off on their next adventure. 8 WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR? Luke 10:25-37 Dear Friends: June 2007 We all know the story of the Good Samaritan. A young lawyer talked with Jesus about the command to love your neighbor as yourself, asking, who is my neighbor? In response, Jesus told the parable a man who freely gave time, energy, and money to help a stranger, a man he might never see again. According to Jesus, we are all neighbors to one another. FACT: Six million children under age 5 die each year as a result of hunger. The U. S. spends about $10 billion each year on foreign aid while Americans spend $33 billion on diet and weight-loss products. FACT: Of our most basic human needs, air is first; water is second. More than one billion people lack access to safe drinking water and more than two billion lack adequate sanitation facilities. FACT: Gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing: Rebuild communities ravaged by natural disasters. Create sustainable sources of food and water for rural villages. Provide micro-credit so women can start their own small businesses and support their families. Provide the medical care necessary for children to have a chance to survive past the age of 5 and attend school. Jesus response to the question, Who is my neighbor? sets a standard that isn t easy to meet. By participating in One Great Hour of Sharing this June, we join together to make a world of difference in the lives of our neighbors. Our goal for the One Great Hour of Sharing is: $1,200. Sincerely, Sally Lyon, on behalf of the Mission Board
