1 September 2018 A Note from Your Pastor SILENCE People don t often like it. Yet in the SILENCE we find we can hear that which we have not heard before. Be SILENT so you may hear the movement and voice of God. Noise, on the other hand, keeps us from hearing and paying attention to the most important of things, especially the whisper of the Holy Spirit. SILENCE also allows us to just be together in intimate comfort with the ONE who desires a deep relationship with us. This fall, as everything kicks into high gear and noise starts to infiltrate every portion of your life, be SILENT and hear the Voice of God. This summer I have been reading new books; The Revolu onary Power of the Lord s Prayer by Alice Burne e Greene, and Made for Love by Fr. Michael Schmitz. I also read Pastor John s Sermons, Disciples of Celebra on and Reconcile Quickly. Were you in church when Pastor sang his sermon? Introduc on to Made for Love, by Fr. Michael Schmitz Change, change everywhere. How to adapt? In the 13th century, St. Francis of Assisi wrote, O Lord, who are You? O Lord, who am I? Social media today would not be the source. Don t be defined by others. Subjec ve: Truth is what I say it is. U litarian: Best things are what I want. Hedonis c: Best thing is what brings me the most pleasure. To understand yourself, understand rela onships. As Chris ans, we acknowledge God as the Lord of our Life God created us. He is the source of life. When you follow Him, He will be your des ny. Learn and listen to His plan for your love. GOD IS LOVE. Our purpose is to learn what our feelings are in living life. First GOD LOVES us. We have been created with feelings like sex. Its purpose was to propagate, develop families here on earth. Humans are endowed with feelings, emo ons, intellect, and love. The author s brother confessed to same-sex a rac on. In John 8: 7 & 11 Jesus said to the crowd, He who is without sin among you cast the first stone. To the woman he said, Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more. It is going to be an AMAZING me as we dive into out theme: Thrive. At our core, don t we all want to thrive in our daily lives? As believers we seek to love God and live as disciples of Christ. So this year we are focusing on Thrive because God is good, you are important, and life has meaning even when things don t look good The Bible tells us that God loves us that God is good -that God works all things to good that God s plans for us are good But what about when life isn t good? Thrive is about finding: Iden ty in God who never changes; Purpose in confusing mes; Home when life is filled with darkness; Joy no ma er what happens. That is the heart of what our weekend is about. It is going to be an amazing weekend, and we will have a ton of fun. We re going to have good food, crazy ac vi es, a solid mission project to support, powerful worship, challenging messages, and small group discussions. What we need though...is you! We have been blessed with 52 adults and 34 kids who have used our Mission. Many have come all three months! (Each family is allowed one visit per month.) We contacted our Sister Churches in the area and many are par cipa ng by dona ng items and volunteering. Thank you all for your help and support in this adventure that God has called us to. It s not just the items people need, but a safe place to share their stories. Volunteers are learning and growing while sharing with our visitors and each other. Second Sunday Fellowship As we head into the autumn season, many thoughts turn toward family get-togethers, holidays, and comfort food. In that spirit, the Common Life/ Member Care Commi ee will be hos ng a Second Sunday Fellowship me. Beginning October 14, a light lunch with seasonal food will be provided in the Chapel following the Worship service. All are invited to come enjoy good food and fellowship. 7 Page 7 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2018 During the week of June 25-29, 42 children joined our VBS ministry staff for a me filled with fun, learning, and worship. On a deserted island, with a crazy monkey and a fellow fearless castaway, we worked out our fears and trepida on to realize that Jesus Rescues! MANY thanks go to the huge number of people who make the program possible and successful. Darlene Endy s team of George Oley, Barbara Brace and Rosie Oaks-Lee again created an amazing set for the sanctuary which prompted several oohs and aahs as well as the comment, This is always the BEST! (The set was also shared with 4 other churches!!) This year s drama team included Ben Rayland from Dewi Community Church, Doug Greene as a Roman centurion with his slave Alex Keesler and Mary Schwarz. SO much fun! Our Sta on Leaders again did an unprecedented job of teaching Bible points and demonstra ng the love of Christ to all. Be sure to thank Dawn Cole, Jean Lynn Buskey and her team of Jo Ann Mostar and Nancy Bishop, Lecia Rodrigues, Marge Edwards, and Ben Rayland. The Crew Leader Team was at its best this year! Ten youth stepped up to lead small groups, guiding them, loving them, and teaching them. Each loved the children assigned to them and they were genuinely loved in return! Be sure to commend Alex Keesler, Regan Ford & Sarah Coles, Taylor Ratliff, McKenna Oley and her friends, Natalia Quinones-Franco & Trinity Harrison, Carter Poulsen, Jessica Nekos, and Grace Keesler. Others who contributed were Kim Granata, Mike Everly, Oleys, Whartons, Kelly Griffin, and the Ness Family. We have a very special registra on team of Pauline and Harry Cole, Nancy Bishop, and Kristy Keesler. It may look like chaos on Monday morning but imagine it without this group of intrepids! The finale of our week was an ice cream social starring ice cream donated by Sno-Top! Be sure to thank Kathy and Vince Giordano for their yearly support. None of this would be available for us if it were not for the prayers and financial support of the congrega on. This is a ministry where EVERYONE is cri cal to the success of spreading the gospel.
