2 A Message From The Chapter Directors I would like to start this newsletter article by saying THANK YOU to Gail Crow. As most of you know, this is Gail s last newsletter for the Sierra Eagles. Gail, speaking for everyone in the Sierra Eagles family; I have to tell you how much we have appreciated all of your hard work putting out a great Newsletter for our enjoyment. As most of you know, Gail and Ken have decided to make a major change in their life style and plan on doing some serious traveling in their motorhome. Ken sold his Goldwing and has stepped down as our District Educator and our Chapter Ride Coordinator. I would be remiss if I didn t recognize Ken for all of his hard work in the above mentioned positions, but also for the two years Ken and Gail served proudly as our Chapter Directors. Ken and Gail, we wish the best to both of you in your new endeavors. We look forward to you attending Chapter meetings and events as time permits, and hearing about your adventures. I would like to thank Kathy Hudson for stepping up to become our Newsletter Editor. I know that she will continue to provide us with a newsletter that we all will be proud of. Kathy s first newsletter will be the September edition. Our July meeting was attended by thirty-three members which included our new members, Grace and Ron Nichols, Joe Magdaleno II, and Russ Johnson. We would like to welcome you into our Sierra Eagles family. After the meeting, we had a great ride to Sierraville, Ca. Seven Bikes and six trikes went on this ride in two groups. I would like to thank Kay Dyer for leading this ride and setting up the restaurant for a great meal. By the time you read this, we will have completed our Mt. Lassen ride and the RV SIG will have returned from their trip to Sisters RV Park near Bend, Oregon. We will have more on this next month. We will also have completed the TRC/ARC courses set up by our new District Educator, Clyde Herring and our District Director, Micky Farrington. Thank you both for your efforts to make these courses possible for all of our members. Please remember that we do not have our regular monthly meeting in August. Instead we will be having our Annual Sierra Eagles BBQ at the home of John and Marge Higley. John and Marge have been hosting this event for several years. We all appreciate the use of their home and the hospitality that goes with it. This event takes a lot of work and we want you both to know how much we appreciate all that you do to make this event a success. On August 18 th we currently have the ride to Jackson, California planned. Our next Safety Social will be on August 23 rd. We will have more on both of these items as we get closer to the dates. Page 2
3 Of course, Let s not forget about Wing Ding in Knoxville, TN. on August 28 th thru September 1 st. I know we have a couple of members planning on riding to Knoxville and another making an RV trip out of it. We will look forward to hearing about this in our September newsletter. Before I close, there is one more issue I wish to address. As most of you know, we were advised at a previous meeting that Rich Thorwaldson, owner of Moto Source, was not happy with the Sierra Eagles. I want you all to know that this is NOT true. Several of us have had personal conversations in person with Rich. Rich will be continuing to support the Sierra Eagles as he has in the past, and I am requesting that we all continue to support Rich and Moto Source. I know several of us have recently had work done on our bikes by Rich. Rich is one of our advertisers in our newsletter and worthy of our continued support. Ken and Sue Pouliot Chapter Directors cd@gwrranv.org Home Cell Page 3
4 Chapter Treasurers Clyde and Lucy Herring would like to remind you about the Door Prize incentive. They are asking everyone to check boxes in the garage and other storage places to see if there is anything that could be donated as a door prize. They can use anything you think someone else could use or would like. As a reward you receive double 50/50 raffle tickets! A very special THANK YOU to everyone who donates items to the Chapter for our monthly Door Prize Pool and those who continue to buy the 50/25/25 tickets. 5 July Chapter Gathering Notes Our gathering started with Chapter Director Ken Pouliot leading the Pledge of Allegiance. We had thirty-three members which included our new members, Grace and Ron Nichols, Joe Magdaleno II, and Russ Johnson. There will be no meeting for the month of August. Instead we will be having our Annual Sierra Eagles BBQ at the home of John and Marge Higley in Cold Springs. It will be from 2PM to 5PM. Kathy Hudson will be taking over the Newsletter from Gail Crow in September. The Activity Binder is being discontinued. This is due to no interest. Christmas Party will be held on December 15th. The cost will be $35.00 per person. Any guest will have to pay the full $70.00 per person. Sierra Eagles can not subsidize guests. The menu will be the same as last year and the no host bar will remain. Ken Crow has stepped down as District Educator and John Higley has stepped down as ride co-coordinator for the Chapter. Carol Hannigan has announced the Dogs for Rotary will take place this year on September 30 th. All Sierra Eagles are invited to attend. They are hosting a booth for the Sierra Eagles. Clyde Herring will be the new District Educator. He made the following announcements. Congratulations to Brick Reagle for achieving Masters Level 4 and was presented with his Master Shirt. Clyde will be pushing the levels program. Clyde would like to see us recruit younger members. Wing Ding for 2019 with go back to July 4th. Members can look up their personal information on GWRRA. Your ARC or TRC will be good for 3 years. Ken Pouliot and Jim Hudson have sent out twenty-two personal invitation letters to GWRRA members that are in our area and not active. They have only received one response. Page 5

9 News from Ken and Gail Crow Hello everyone! As most of you know we were evacuated from Eagle campground. We have been staying at our boss house in Susanville, Ca. There are a total of five RV s parked here. The fire didn t reach any of the campgrounds. As of today the fire is 32% contained. We are hoping they will let the staff members return to our campgrounds by the end of the week. We should open up by August 15th to the public. This will be my last newsletter. I have enjoyed doing the newsletter for the past two years. I want to thank everyone for sending articles to me in a timely manner so I could get them in the newsletter. As most of you know, Ken and I are changing our life style. We will be moving our stuff into storage so we can be full time RV'ers. We will be in Reno during the holidays and then on to Arizona. Ken and I have given up all our positions, but we will still be GWRRA members. We look forward to seeing everyone in September. Ken and Gail Crow Page 9

21 FOR SALE Yamaha Vino 125cc Scooter - $1850 This Yamaha Scooter is about as clean and sharp as can be. It's a two-owner unit with just over 2,695 original miles on it. The motorcycle rides like a dream and could nearly pass for new. The Yamaha Scooter comes with everything you see and two helmets, plus full documentation and a new battery. Condition: As noted, the scooter is in excellent condition with only the slightest signs of wear. It's been well cared for and is garage kept. Unlike so many motorcycles out there, the Yamaha Scooter shows absolutely no signs of abuse or crash damage. The paint is bright and shiny, as are all the chrome parts. All plastic is fresh with no signs of cracking or U/V damage. The tires have plenty of life in them and all other rubber parts like hoses and such are pliable and free of cracks. The seat is in perfect condition, as is the rear storage case. Mechanical: The motorcycle functions just as it should with no issues or problems. The engine sounds great and purrs like a kitten. It's an amazingly quiet, smooth ride, just what you'd expect from a Yamaha. The braking works fantastic. So does the cooling system, transmission and suspension. All lights, switches, and levers work as they should. All required maintenance and servicing has been taken care of per the manufacturer's requirements. Any issues or repairs needed outside of regular maintenance have been immediately addressed to always keep the motorcycle in tip-top condition. I also have a (NEW) hitch rack I can let go with it as well $$ For more information contact Chris Ward at or Page 21
