1 V O L. 5 0 I S S U E 12 SPECIAL 2017 CHRISTMAS EDITION D E C What a great party this year! Some of the highlights of this year s event were: There were 82 in attendance! No last minute cancellations! Everyone got their menu choices and checks in to us well in advance of the deadline. Taking everyone s picture in the Foyer Lobby before they entered the banquet room was a great idea. We got wonderful pictures of almost everyone and they will be on the Club s website for all to see and enjoy. Oakhurst CC once again went all out to meet all of our requests, making this event so easy for us! Marilyn has more than 30 years experience planning events for corporations, organizations, & churches of all sizes and says you can always tell how successful an event is by the sound of enthusiastic, cordial conversation in the room. As we were nearing the end of taking photos of arriving guests in the Foyer Lobby, we couldn t help but see how everyone was talking, laughing, sipping a beverage, enjoying an appetizer or two and best of all SMILING! We decided we would create a 2017 Christmas Edition of the newsletter this year so we can all enjoy seeing the pictures of the party, and even make a copy of your own picture to send to families and friends. Over the years these Christmas pictures become wonderful memories of good times together. We heard no serious complaints about the food, rather there were many expressions of how good the food was. The Awards portion of the program was very special: The 2017 Board was thanked and the 2018 Board was introduced. The 2017 Tour Leaders were recognized. Longevity Awards were presented. Thank you Borba s and Freeman s for all your help with this event! LET S REACH FOR THE STARS IN 2018! Special Christmas Edition of The MotoMeter 1 December 2017
2 THE MAKING OF THE CENTERPIECES The most enjoyable part of the Christmas Party for us is coming up with the centerpieces for the tables. The search for just the right theme and putting it together is so much fun. We ve had Snowman Hats, Rocking Horses, Santas and others. These centerpieces have been our gift to the club each year. But this year Marilyn found something that struck an amazing positive chord for her the stars. She found them at Beverly s and immediately thought of the Club s 50th anniversary in 2018 and how neat it would be to have a theme based on Reaching for the Stars in She brought the stars home and Herb got involved. He felt they needed a coat of satin white paint instead of the shabby chic they came with. It definitely made all the difference in the world! Caryn Borba, our talented Christmas Party Committee member, brought her creative skills to the project. We placed (taped) LED lights on top of silver chargers, then placed the stars on top, added wispy clouds, silver and blue ornaments (planets), tiny silver stars, and iridescent glitter. Herb also made the stars more stable by hot gluing tongue compressors to the bottom of the stars. Oakhurst added their touch with the black tablecloths and silver napkins folded beautifully. We had a wonderful time putting the centerpieces together and hope they encourage each of us to think out of the box not only for doing amazing things for the club but in terms of our own personal lives. Think of something that seems impossible to accomplish and go for it! You will be so blessed and amazed at what can happen. We already know of members who ve done just this. We think of Tom and Barbara Sharman restoring their beloved, historic Adobe home in Martinez and just recently moving back into it making it possible for their grandson and his wife and their young family (soon to be joined by a new addition in February 2018) to move into the Sharman s beautifully restored historic Victorian built by John Swett in Tom and Barbara are so excited about having this wonderful family right next door on the property and to enjoy watching their adorable great grandchildren grow up there. Special Christmas Edition of The MotoMeter 2 December 2017
3 We had a very handsome group of Tuxedos: Jesse Cruz, Herb Neumann, Bob Estrella, Hank Haugse, Bob Rigor So proud of our ladies who wore their beautiful hats and furs: Sheila Kanne, Carmella Smith, Diane Trimpey, Barbara Sharman, Rose Estrella, Janet Andronis, Marilyn Neumann and Caryn Borba Our thanks to Jim Kanne for taking these photos for us! Another first, the President s wife received a gift. We all agree that Rose has not only been Bob s right hand person these past two years, but kept us all on the straight and narrow path as well. Bob and Rose have truly been a blessing to the club, and we can t thank them enough for everything! We know Bob will make an excellent Past President too.
