1 January 2015 Issue - Page 1 Tehachapi Loop Railroad Club s Newsletter Since April 1993 Once Again the TLRC Caboose is the Star Attraction Pictures by Maureen and Phil Cornyn and Story by Marlan Woodside I can only imagine former members Steve and Suzann Pruitt would be proud of the old TLRC caboose if they could see it now. If you recall the caboose was purchased by Steve sev- eral years ago and used to support club activities and then TLRC President and now former member Theresa Bruno came up with the idea for the club to purchase the caboose from Steve. That was only the foundation as over the last couple of years there have been sever- al work sessions coordinated by Phil Cornyn and several other members that have worked to restore the caboose, the signage and replace the roof. Those that are familiar with John Bell s passion for deco- rating his house with Christmas items, it was a natural for the caboose to get dressed out for the December 2014 Tehachapi Christmas parade. John made mention that if it weren t for the calls made by Robby Robinson to get the crew together, that the decorating may not have happened. So many thanks to all of those TLRC members that stepped up and got the work done in time for the caboose to be featured in the parade. In the picture at lower left, the caboose is shown in the night time lighted mode as it was pulled through the parade behind Phil s truck. The lower right picture includes L to R, Wilson James, Phil Cornyn, Rex Welker and Chris Howard. Thanks again to John Bell for supplying the Christmas items and for the year round support provided by Maureen and Phil is storing the caboose year round. A true example of TLRC teamwork and a job that is well done. The community of Tehachapi certainly benefits from all of your hard work!

Outside Jake s Steakhouse was parked the TLRC Christmas Parade Ready Caboose and inside were twenty nine of the TLRC members and quests that were gathering for a fine dinner, sharing of presents and to just have a good old time. A few hours after the dinner was the Tehachapi Christmas parade, then the first fully powered and functioning display of the Stokoe signals at the Tehachapi Depot and lastly the Tehachapi Christmas tree lighting!. The following pages display the pictures of those attending the event, we thank you for choosing to be members of the club and for all of the work and support you provide to the club. 6 East Kern G Scale Railroaders Story by Rick Passalacqua and Pictures by Marlan Woodside January 2015 Issue - Page 6 With the holiday season upon us and some cold weather, we did not have a get together this month. However some of us attended the TLRC Christmas lunch that included a gift exchange with stealing. It seems that some of the G scale members were really interested in full size railroad signs. Dennis Keck, John Bell and Wilson James all ended up with a sign, and I brought one as a gift (hoping to get it back). For myself, with the money I got for selling my HO collection, I have purchased some new Piko waterproof electric switch machines, three new plastic building kits and an electric circuit board to attach to the track for automatic train separation when running two trains. I have also sold a horse that my wife no longer rides and we decided to split the money received between bills and fun. My half of the fun money will go toward to my trains. I am planning to get another set of batteries for my second battery boxcar, more sound systems for either my engines or a trailing car (engine sounds) and possibly another steam engine with sound. I m considering a USA dockside switcher like Rex has. Also a new trolley may be on my wish list too! My leaves are now gone and I have started cleanup on my railroad. I have cut out and buried what s left of the stump of my dead pine tree. Now I m planning a new trolley line and a bigger city in that area. The old city area will be converted to a farm scene. I think I have too much ambition to do all these new things this year, because all these changes can really add up to a lot of work. But each year I want to improve my layout and then show it off, so what the heck! Our next get together will be at John s house on Thursday Jan 15 th at 10am. If the weather is good we will continue with cement work. If it s bad, we ll go in the garage and do some track work. C U -Rick! One is left to only guess if the sign that John Bell selected (and kept) was the one that Rick Passalacqua spoke of in his article that HE wanted to keep for himself! John seems happy! Dennis Keck went through several efforts to select a present that he was able to keep, I believe Wilson James ended up with this sign. (Editor s notes: What a great time everyone had in sorting through the variety of gifts that were brought by members to the Tehachapi Loop Railroad Club Christmas Party at Jake s in Tehachapi. The approach was to select a gift and then when it came time for the next person to select they could steal the previous gift, but after the second stealing the gift was frozen. With that background there was a spirited exchange of gifts and fun and merriment was in abundance as no one could be certain if the gift they selected would be the one they ended up taking home with them!) This was the sign that Dennis Keck eventually was able to KEEP! He was very happy and I am sure the sign will surface at this home Garden Scale layout.

I hope that the spectacular TLRC Christmas Party got everyone s holiday off to a great start. I believe it was Dennis Keck s idea to pursue an afternoon time and then it was Maureen Cornyn who talked Phil Cornyn into asking the management of Jake s to host the event. I believe we had about twenty nine people in attendance and besides a great affordable meal, the gift exchange was a lot of fun with train signs being the highly stolen item, just ask Dennis! Hopefully Santa was good to each and everyone of you and that you got some train related gift to launch the New Year. Ravi Balasuriya and Dean Smith are continuing excellent work in getting the TLRC web site completely transferred back under TLRC management and the Facebook site is drawing attention. Please let either of these gentlemen know if you have items to post or ideas to spread the word about the benefits of being a member of the TLRC. xxhappy Training!!!
