Thank you for the opportunity to be your President in I have enjoyed the role and have many people to thank for our successes. Firstly to the Committee, in particular Ian Weier, Treasurer who has been a tower of strength; to Brian Parker for his Secretarial duties; and Bob Lewitz for his much appreciated fund raising and general support. Laurie Caldwell has added much in his roles as newsletter editor and for taking on the President s position while I was in Hospital and recuperating from surgery. And to all other committee members a big thanks. My gratitude also to Bob Edyvean for his encouragement and support; to all the Shed Bosses who assisted during the year; the Garden group; Engineering group and the Wood work group - thank you; Trainers Dennis and his team; and Roger, our 2 stroke Expert. The Shed

2 doesn t run without a great team and I feel we have achieved much throughout the past twelve months, and made a name for ourselves in the Community. I look forward to the forthcoming year and I welcome the new Committee after the AGM on 31 st July. The Annual Christmas Party and Awards Night at Coalstars was another successful social event and saw Rob Crepin awarded Shedder of the Year. Rob continues to make some wonderful items and a chest of drawers is his latest masterpiece. Our Membership continues to grow as men see the need for an outlet and a place to relax with other men. Sadly we lost members during the year - Ray Richie, John Baker, Barry Sippel and Ken Everson. Chris Draper moved to Canberra and we wished him well. We do however lose members during the year as they find other interests or the Shed does not suit their needs. Others on our sick list included Ken Beitzel and Alwyn Logan. Members fulfilled other roles in the Community during the year and in particular Dave Wernowski who continues his mentoring role with Apprenticeships QLD and was again rewarded at their annual awards night. Well done Dave! Ted Wedmaier received another Australia Day Award for his involvement with Ipswich Hospice and we congratulate him for this outstanding achievement. Andrew Orr co-ordinated the Ipswich Street parade again this year - thanks Andrew who is also the President of the Ipswich Bowls Club. Our Contribution to the community continued with the Men s Health Week at North Ipswich and The Spanner in the Works program in June this year. Involvement with Park to Park continues this July as we brave the cold morning to marshall and encourage participants. Our Shed visits continued with a great day at the wonderful Mt Gravatt Shed and we attended a meeting at the Sandgate Shed. We have again increased our assets and purchased a Container for storage and we thank Ron Bopf and Graham Hawkins for the storage racks in the container. We also gratefully accepted an awning from Shed Zone for another covered area, the acquisition of a garden shed for paint storage and coming soon is a generous donation form Roger Overell s brother-in-law of another garden shed to be used as a paint booth. Nathan Lucinsky donated drinks to the Shed.

3 Barbeques were again a major part of our fundraising and our successful Bunning s BBQs add much needed funds to our coffers and add great fellowship to the group. Thank you to BBQ Bob for all his efforts and his fund raising efforts were rewarded with a yearly total of $22,000. The SwichOn group again offered us a generous donation of approx $2400 for our assisting them at their Golf Day. The No Hopers motor bike group donated $500 and Bendigo Bank also sponsored us to the tune of $500. Our funds were boosted by the wonderful jobs which members completed for clients across Ipswich. The Blackhawk Challenge again supported us with a donation of timber after their challenge in July 2017 and again this July. We thank Kylie Stoneman for her generous support throughout the year and staff member Nick for printing our newsletters. My thanks to President Elect Laurie Caldwell for all of his assistance and support, in particular for organizing the October Garage Sale and the successful Zone meeting held at our Shed, for the recent Spanner in the Works program and for his much needed knowledge and computer skills. Roger and Denise Overell attended the Community Awards night and Roger also attended the Annual Men s Shed Conference bringing much information back to the Shed. We again thank all our sponsors and supporters - Coles Ipswich, Bunning s, The Salvation Army, Tools and Industrial Supplies, Jennifer Howard, Jo-Ann Miller, Shayne Neumann, Bendigo Bank, Qld Rail, Australian Hearing, Able Australia, The Ipswich City Council, Gavin Tupper, Blackhawk Challenge, QMSA and AMSA, SwichOn, Ipswich North Rotary Club and Apprenticeships Qld. Shedders who were Shedders of the Month included Arthur Reid, Norm Trower, Brian Parker, Ian Weier, Bill Prince, Richard Middleton, Taelaga Lamei, and Ian Nisbet. We pride ourselves on the ability to assist members and a recent speech program for Neil Lee is progressing well, despite the fact that he keeps losing things. We were sorry to hear of the closure of both the Leichardt and Rosewood Sheds to our community but congratulate Springfield for their formation.

4 I thank all Members who have assisted me throughout my 4 years as President. We have achieved a lot and I leave the leadership of Ipswich Men s Shed in good hands as Laurie undertakes this role into My thanks extend to Shona for her support as always, for correcting my writing mistakes, and her ability to see the other side. 8 Shed Boss Duties. Unlock the shed and gates by 7:00 AM Wear the Shed Boss Vest for the day. If required appoint an Assistant Shed Boss for the day (recommended for Tuesdays) Make sure shedders sign in and pay day fees, lunch money etc. (at Smoko) Direct shedders without a job onto projects for the day. Field questions from shedders meet any visitors, take charge of the gong. Make sure there is water in the urn and milk,tea,coffee etc. available for Smoko. Ensure supplies are there for lunch and organize a cook.. At end of day fill in the daily takings book and leave cash in the safe.(saturdays ONLY) Run the induction video if required Lock up all the shed doors and gates ensuring lights and unnecessary power is switched off. On Tuesdays take the bins out to Mining St. Clean toilets and empty bins as required SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT TBA AT THE AGM!!
