2 Dear Friends I would like to add my thanks to everyone who contributed to our highly successful Gift Day. The amount raised was astonishing and totally unexpected it was six times more than we had estimated it might be! This is a fantastic tribute to the commitment of all our members and put a remarkably large smile on the face of the treasurer. Despite the fact that our roll is falling and attendances on a Sunday often fall below 100, the offerings continue to hold firm and in fact ordinary givings are showing an increase this year so far. Thank you to everyone for this great result. We recently took part in a very successful picnic and worship service for Pentecost at Craigiebuckler Church as part of joint venture with local churches in the Presbytery Cluster Group. Thank you to everyone who came along. It was great to have such amazing singing, lovely choir contributions and drama. It was also super to have fellowship in this way with fellow Christians from other congregations. To continue to build on this, a further event is planned for Sunday October 2 nd at Mannofield Church. This will be a Harvest Supper and worship time and will also be an opportunity to see the newly refurbished Mannofield building. Full details will be in the intimations and on the church web site. I have been encouraged that a number of people are interested in forming a House Group or Bible Study Group. If you would like to be part of this, please give me a phone or drop me an . It is envisaged that the group would probably meet fortnightly and I will be happy to start it off and then hopefully see someone else take it over! Yours sincerely John Ferguson World Day of Prayer 2017 Dayer Colburn has been the representative for Peterculter Parish Church for several years but would like to now step down from such a post. She invites someone to contact her with regard to taking over from her to ensure that our Church is still contributing to this important annual event, held every year on the first Friday of March. 3 Thank You I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the get well wishes I have received in recent weeks and I wish to say a very big thank you to al who showed concern for my well being. I am pleased to report that i am improving - slowly but surely. I am also very grateful to all those who ensured I was never lonely or without reading material and who kept my food store well stocked! I am truly blessed with many very good friends and to whom I wish to quote from Friends by Frank D. Sherman. I was preparing the magazine while away on holiday and as this was delivered to my letterbox and not my inbox it didn't reach me in time. VM Sing Along At Corrie This will restart on Monday 5 Sept 2016 at 2pm. Singing together is good fun and therapy for body and soul as we enjoy singing the old favourites. All will be made most welcome.

4 Church Flowers Our thanks to all those people for their kind donation to the flower fund. It makes such a difference, as that is what makes it possible to decorate the church, extension area and the entrance hall each week. Our thanks go to: Sheila Watt Dorothy Reid Stan Stephen and Family Anne Dey Coming up soon, well only five short weeks away, and we will be decorating the church for Harvest Thanksgiving with the fruits of the harvest, which we all enjoy doing. An award for Culter in Colour came to the church for the floral containers outside the church and a shield was presented by the Culter Horticultural Society and Culter Community Council at the Culter Flower Show and was received by Violet Smith and Dayer Colburn on behalf of the Flower Team. The containers require watering all through the summer months and it is largely thanks to Dayer for her untiring work and also arranging for a team of people to help with this. And it takes a lot of watering cans to water 9 containers!! Convenor - Violet Smith, Treasurer - Mabel Taylor, Holiday Club A huge thank you to Joyce Cowie and the team who led an excellent Holiday Club this summer. 38 children attended and all had a wonderful time.

5 Thanks The June Strawberry Teas Gift Day was a remarkable fundraising success with 5,178 contributed and about 1,100 to be claimed in Gift Aid giving a total of about 6,278 for church funds. Thanks are due to all who donated, to those who were able to come along on the day and to all who helped in this new venture. Shopping Trip The annual shopping trip to McArthur Glen takes place on Saturday 12 th November. The bus leaves kirk car park at 7.30am. Price TBC, includes tea/coffee & buttery /shortbread on downward trip. Contact Fiona Jones to book a seat. Macmillan Coffee Morning We will be holding a MacMillan Coffee Morning on Friday September 30th from am 12 noon in the large church hall. This is a very worthwhile event and community support is much appreciated. 6 With Autumn fast approaching many of you may be changing your wardrobe Please keep all your unwanted clothes,handbags and accessories (no bric-brac) to donate to our Jumble Sale on Saturday 1st October 10a.m-12noon in the large hall All items can be left on the stage from Saturday 17th September The hall will also be open 2-4pm, and 6-8pm on Friday 30th September A chance to clear out and raise funds for the church

7 Prayer time - First Sunday of Each Month On the first Sunday of every month, after morning worship, there will be a short Prayer Time, which is an opportunity to pray for others. Cards are available on the table at the extension door and should be placed in the box provided. The next Prayer Time will be on Sunday 1st May. 8 Table Top Sale Table Top Sales begin again on Saturday 1st October and will continue on the first Saturday of each month, apart from January. Set up is from 9 10 am with items on sale from 10 am 12 noon. 10 Presbytery Matters Our church was the venue for the June meeting of Presbytery and some of the business was as follows: Syrian Refugees The meeting was addressed by Alana Nabulsi, an Aberdeen City Council appointment as Refugee Project Manager. She had been surprised at the amount of valuable help that had been available from the Aberdeen churches. From day one the refugees appreciated all the community support received and Alana gave thanks on behalf of the 19 adults, 10 boys and 1 girl. At primary school teachers were impressed at how well the children were settling in. Eventually there will be 100 Syrian refugees in Aberdeen. Aberdeen Presbytery Plan 2013 (2016 Update) In 2013, following a General Assembly instruction, a Presbytery 10 year Plan, which was to be reviewed annually, was produced including planning criteria for an allocation of 38.1 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) ministry posts. The Presbytery Planning and Deployment Committee reported an update for It was agreed that, in the case of a vacancy occurring, a full time Minister of Word and Sacrament should be inducted without restriction to most congregations but it was noted that Presbytery was unable to make a determination on the future status of both Cove Parish Church and Garthdee/Ruthrieston West and an update would be made at a later date. From the 38.1 FTE available, Presbytery was able to allocate additional posts to some churches where it was felt the need was greatest such as, amongst others, St George's Tillydrone and Dyce both given an extra 0.5 FTE. Ten Must Know Bible Stories Project The Rev Louis Kinsey, Minister at St Columba's Bridge of Don, intimated a project which the congregation plan to develop for teaching 10 Bible Stories to primary school children. Working with 7 local primary schools the resources will allow Christianity to be taught well and the stories to be used across the curriculum. The aim is to ensure every child in Bridge of Don leaves primary school knowing the stories and are confident in discussing them. Richard Little

11 Wednesday Club On Wednesday 14 September at 2.00pm we are holding our first meeting for Every session we hope to offer a varied programme of daytime entertainment and talks on a fortnightly basis. Everyone in Culter and beyond is most welcome to attend any or many meetings. If you wish to become a member, you will pay 10 annual subscription plus 1 per meeting, but membership is not compulsory. Non members are warmly invited to every meeting and pay 2 per visit. Meetings start at 2.00pm in the Church, to be followed by light refreshments in the Small Hall and usually finish about 3.30pm.
