There were signs (as the gospel writer John put it) and there were wonders, but most people didn t immediately get that Jesus was God s Son. We have been blessed with a rather long season of Epiphany this year. This is a good thing because it means that we have more time to consider what it means that Jesus is God and therefore, what our mission could be. We started with the Wise Men s journey and we thought about our own pilgrimage. Then we linked John the Baptist s work with Jesus baptism and our washed and renewed lives. The wedding at Cana was a huge, neon pointer to the overflowing abundance of God s grace. The Word then came in the flesh to worship from The Word Made Flesh. When Jesus was just too much for his hometown, He opened his ministry to the world. The fishermen s bulging-to-thepoint-of-bursting nets teach about God s provision. Next we consider how new life is found in blessings and can even be found in woes. Epiphany comes to a peak with a glowing, mountaintop experience. We are in a season of seeking and finding. When we need encouragement so that we can encourage others, the light of Jesus shines brightly. Annual Meeting February 24 Peace be with you, Pastor Ann Zion s annual meeting to review the previous year will take place on February 24 th after each worship service. The reports of each team or committee will be received and the year-end financial report will be reviewed. Watch your for the 2018 Annual Report or get a hard copy at church after February 10 th. Mark your calendars! Zion s Voice 1 February 2019

5 Ministry is held on Sunday evenings from 5:00 p.m. until around 7:00 p.m. Finances: Our Ministry continues to be self-funded by several members of the congregation. Service: Pastor Ann usually presides over this service which starts after the evening meal around 6:15 p.m. and includes communion (grape juice only). We sometimes have guest pastors fill in if Pastor Ann is unavailable. Attendance usually runs from 20 to 30 people with the average around 25. Packaged treats from Panera are given out at the end of service. The meal starts at 5:45 p.m. Zion provides the meal on the 1 st and 4 th Sundays. Members of the congregation bring the food in for these meals. On the 2 nd Sunday, Peace Lutheran in Ashland alternates with Central Christian in providing the meal. On the 3 rd Sundays, St. Peter s Lutheran in New Pittsburg and Salem Lutheran in Madisonburg alternate providing the meal. On 5 th Sundays, the meal is now going to be provided by the Catholic Men s Group from St. Mary s Catholic Church. Attendance at Meals: Attendance ranges from 40 to 100, and usually is lower at the beginning of the month and higher towards the end of the month. The average attendance falls between 60 and 70 people. Food Pantry: The Food Pantry is open from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Each bag contains 1 box of Spaghetti, 1 jar of Spaghetti Sauce, 1 can of Tuna, 1 can of Chicken, 1 can of Sloppy Joe Mix, 2 cans of Green Beans, 1 can of Corn, 1 can of Cream of Chicken Soup, 1 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup, and 1 can of Chicken Noodle Soup or Tomato Soup, 1 box of Mac & Cheese, 1 jar of Peanut Butter, 1 box of Chicken Rice, 1 can of Fruit, 1 box of Skillet Masters, 1 tube of toothpaste 1-4-roll pack of Toilet Tissue. We usually give out between 5 and 10 bags at the beginning of the month. By the end of the month we usually give out around 20 bags. Bags are usually packed on Fridays, and the order is made out then. Cheryl Oswald and Linda Roberts pack the bags with Karen Rodda filling in as needed. The order for the Wednesday truck is called in to SAVE-A-Lot on Sunday or Saturday mornings. Tom and Kay McFadden pick up the order on Thursday afternoons and put all the food away. Panera Bread: Volunteers pick up all of the bread and pastry leftover from the day from Panera on Saturday night at 9:15 p.m. 40 bags of bread, bagels, or pastry are packaged on Sunday to be included with the grocery bags in the Food Pantry. About 12 bags are filled with pastry treats to be handed out after the worship service. Hosts: Each week 2 people provide Hosting Duties for the DZ@6 Food Pantry and the meal. The hosts help in the Food pantry, keeping track of how many bags are given out, and to provide security. They also take count of people present for the meal and worship service, keep order, and occasionally help serve at the meal. Meal preparation and serving: Cindy Hauser, Naomi Lance, or Cheryl Oswald are in charge of supervising at with several faithful helpers. Zion is truly blessed to have so many wonderful people providing ingredients for the meals, picking up the Panera Bread, serving as Hosts, working in the kitchen and serving meals and helping to pay for this blessed ministry.
