1 PHONE: (972) Kent Farr October 7, January 2, 2017 Kent Farr, age 55, of Anna, Texas, passed away January 2, Kent was born October 7, 1961, in Olney, Texas, to Virgil Ray and Hilda (Wolff) Farr. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Kent was employed with Collin County Community College for twenty-six years and retired as the Director of Administrative Programming. He was a member of Grace Fellowship of McKinney. He is survived by his parents, Virgil and Hilda Farr of Anna, Texas; brother, Brett Farr and wife, Patty of Lewisville, Texas; niece and nephews, Kendra Vreeland and husband, Adam of Houston, Texas, Heath Farr of Dallas, Texas, and Jake Farr and wife, Emily of Austin, Texas; aunt, Gertrude Miller and husband, Lon of Lubbock, Texas; and numerous cousins, other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Grace Fellowship of McKinney, 124 Carlisle St., Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery in Van Alstyne, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 5:00 7:00 p.m., Friday evening at the church. Memorials We just today learned of Kent's passing and were so saddened by the news, but as you well know we sorrow not as those who have no hope. Our hope rests squarely on God's amazing grace and can therefore look forward to that glorious reunion that is coming. Until such time we pray God will bless your

2 family with an extra measure of comfort and strength and that He will fill the void that only God can. We consider ourselves blessed to have known Kent and will always remember his determination and the quiet fortitude that captured our attention. And without fail, once he had our attention, he amazed us. We know also that we are not the only ones to be blessed by Kent. God only knows the myriads who have been touched by his life. JANE BROWN, JANUARY 18, 2017 Friends, Two weeks ago today on January 2, 2017 my brother, Stephen Kent Farr, went home to be with the Lord. For two weeks my family has been amazed at the outpouring of love and support from so many friends and family members across the country. However, what is truly amazing is how in this short two week period we have learned so much about Kent that we did not know. We always knew he was an incredibly gifted person, but we had no idea how many people Kent had touched in his 55 years. I have read so many kind notes and posts that detailed very specifically what Kent meant to the writers and how his positive attitude, non-judgmental advice, his good humor, his quick wit, and his capacity for love of friends and family affected their lives. No one was on the receiving end of these great traits more than those of us who were closest to him. Kent loved his niece and nephews. From the time they could crawl around and showed us their personalities, Kent was the first to give them nicknames. With just one or two well thought out words, Kent captured the essence of their personalities. Our first born, Kendra is sweet, kind and artistic. She was always a bit shy, but loved to ride around in Uncle Kent s lap. Kent named her Babycakes. Our second born Heath, was a ball of fire, he could turn on every button or machine in the house in 25 seconds while jumping around the room and singing to the top of his lungs some goofy song. Kent s name for him was Bammer. Our 3rd child, Jake was born and began to

3 show us how inquisitive and thoughtful he was about every situation. He was your typical chubby little baby boy and loved to wrestle in the floor. Uncle Kent called him Big Jake. Each of our kids had a very special relationship with their Uncle Kent and they will treasure the memories of wheelchair rides, goofy songs, riddles that only they could get correct, and knowing that their uncle felt they were some of the most special people in the world. Patty and I knew Kent as a giver. For our nearly 34 years of marriage, Kent has taken care of us with such unconditional love. He could always give the best gifts and wanted so much to give the perfect gift for each person. Anyone who ever worked with Kent physically knew that he was very exacting and determined to be put in the right position to be as comfortable as possible to do his job for the day. This might mean moving his feet, shoulders, arms, head, etc. multiple times in the smallest increments until he felt like he could operate his chair and do the things he needed to do. At times, it could be exasperating, but Kent would never get upset, and even if I showed impatience, he would ALWAYS say thank you. There is no one who could make me laugh harder at an inappropriate time that Kent. He could say the funniest things and I loved being the only one in the room who would get it. Kent s most special relationships were with my mom and dad. For 55 years they dedicated their lives to caring for Kent s every need. When Kent was born, there was not a good prospect for him to live long due to his complications, but due to their watchful eyes and unconditional love, Kent lived a productive and healthy life for an amazing 55 years. While Kent s body may have worn down, his keen wit, sharp mind and loving spirit lasted his entire life. Even in his last days, Kent would tell me all of the things I needed to know to help care for our parents who he dearly loved. There is always a special bond between parents and children, but I have never witnessed the loving bond anywhere else that existed among mom, dad and Kent. It was such a privilege to observe all of my life and that relationship has formed how I view my own kids. For two weeks I have felt that I have been at a loss for words. I have agonized over this situation while at the same time rejoiced that Kent is no longer bound by an

4 imperfect body, but is literally experiencing a new life in Christ where there are no tears and no pain. I, personally hope that he is walking, running, jumping and eating anything that the good Lord permits. I just hope they have Dr. Pepper in heaven. :) For days I wished that I had had the emotional control to speak at his memorial service, but I just couldn t do it at that time. I also wondered how I could truly capture the impact of his life in just a few words. It was a couple of nights ago in the middle of the night that it came to me. Kent s life and especially the last four years have demonstrated to me what it is like to be Christ-like. He was one of God s great men here on earth to show me a better way to be. Kent was kind, generous, caring, loving, trusting, creative and forgiving. He cared about others more than himself and he was sensitive to how everyone else felt. He was engaging, funny, smart as a whip and at times a little mischievous (in a good way). He saw things from a funny perspective, while never being far from a serious and thoughtful perspective. Kent knew the bible and most importantly he knew the Lord. When I was 9 years old and Kent had to be about 11 we decided one day that we wanted to be baptized. I can still remember my dad carrying Kent down into the water and then gently baptizing him. From that time forward he was a child of God and lived in that manner. Kent was not perfect, but he accepted the one who is perfect into his heart and it changed him forever. So, while Kent had many traits that affected my life and many traits that affected countless other people in ways that I will never know, I am completely certain that his strongest trait was his Christ-like nature. His loving spirit and his forgiving nature are the essence of what God is in my life. Kent epitomized Galatians 5:22-23: "But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." I will always miss Kent and loved him completely, but I take comfort that he is now with the one who he most wanted to be like. 5 ANITA COTHRAN, JANUARY 9, 2017 Kent, The scripture you are reminding of is Matthew 18 about how we must be as children and also the warning, "See that you don't despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. 11For the Son of Man came to save that which was lost." Thank you for giving me that encouragement recently guiding me, "When/if you feel life becomes too difficult, to remember me, then look to the cross. If I can do it, you can do it, because he did it for us first." The last few weeks, each morning and during the day, God kept putting this question to me, "Colby, what do you do when the expenses of one's care will outrun the finances and the health, and the LIFE of the parents, ensuring this valuable child of God receives proper care?" Kent, God and I would talk about that a little each day as he pointed me to your situation. He never gave me a specific answer, though dealing with nursing homes on a daily basis, I understood a deeper level than before where he was having me look, then the day I heard the news of your passing, God gave me the answer to the question he asked, "Colby, in my mercy, I take them first; remember the beggar at the rich man's house and gate." Kent, he took you first. You experienced many firsts, challenged people to do something for the first time that helped not only you, also all those around you, not just those physically challenged. Some have experienced dependability upon others because of other's mistakes. Instead, God gave you as a test for some, a blessing for others, to be their hope in life's darkest hour. As you know, I have had a difficult time understanding the truth that God shared with Moses, "Who made man s mouth? Or who makes one mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Isn t it I, the LORD?" However, presently, I get it. As Christ was sent as a rescue mission that resulted in a promotion, so also is each of our calling. All we know is God sent us, to test others, and be tested; will we pass the test? Thank you for showing what an A+ Honor Roll with distinguish-ment looks like in the Kingdom of God for a person not born as the Highly Exalted Son of God. Thank you; see you soon, as Jesus said, "Behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who keeps the words of the

6 prophecy of this book." And again in verse 12, he reminds us his purpose, "Behold I come quickly. My reward is with me, to repay to each man according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." Amen and Amen. COLBY LATHAM, JANUARY 9, 2017 I was so sad to learn of Kent's death. I'm happy he is with God in heaven and healthy and happy. He will be missed now and in the years ahead when his family and friends tell his stories. My sympathy to you all.
