May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. C a r e f o r C r e a t i o n Prayer/Reflection: Good and gracious God, help us to see that we are but a single strand in the web of creation and that you call each of us to allow ourselves to be woven by your loving hand into a tapestry of goodness and beauty for all. We are part of nature, included in it and thus in constant interaction with it. -- Laudato Si', no. 139 Care for Creation Tip: Now is the time to plant local native plants in your gardens. Why? Native plants bring beauty to your gardens and preserve our natural heritage and biodiversity. They provide food and habitat for native wildlife; helpful insects (butterflies, bees, etc.), birds, small creatures. They require far less water, saving our water resources. They save time of upkeep in the garden (sweat equity) and money by not purchasing weed and insect control chemicals and making your area healthy for children and pets. Look up native plants on the internet and get a wealth of information. Take it back to God's beautiful Creation. Earth Day is Saturday, April 22. 4

5 Second Sunday of Easter / Divine Mercy Sunday Worship With Us I n T o d a y s G o s p e l Second Sunday of Easter "Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, 'Peace be with you.'" This greeting from the resurrected Christ must have been a profound one for the disciples. They were living behind locked doors "for fear of the Jews," which really meant for fear of their own lives. They had seen what happened to Jesus and didn't want to face the same fate. Imagine the paralysis of this fear, keeping them locked inside a prison of their own making. But even the walls and the locks could not keep Jesus out! He came "although the doors were locked" and brought them a message of peace. And then their fear turned to gladness for they "rejoiced when they saw the Lord." This transformation from sadness to joy, from fear to peace, was not just a gift for these first disciples. It is a gift for all of the followers of the Lord, ourselves included! When we are afraid of what might happen in our lives, where we are trapped or paralyzed by the burdens of our own habitual sins, Jesus wants to step in and offer us peace. This is what we celebrate today on this feast of the mercy of Christ. His love and peace--the gift of his mercy--is meant for all of us, weak, sinful, and scared though we may be. And we who receive this great gift of mercy from the Lord are also called to be merciful to others. We are called to be peacemakers and to forgive others as we have been forgiven. Our celebration of Divine Mercy need not stop at the doors of our own hearts. We can seek ways to be ministers of God's mercy to others, reaching out with the love of God, bringing comfort and consolation to those who need it most. S p e c i a l A n n i v e r s a r i e s The Archdiocesan Anniversary Mass for couples celebrating their 50 th wedding anniversaries during 2017 will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral, downtown Cincinnati, at the regularly-scheduled 4:30 p.m. Mass. Please notify the Parish Office by June 9, 2017, if you are celebrating your 25 th, 50 th, 60 th, 65 th, 70 th, or 75 th anniversary during Please call the St. Michael Reservation Line ( , Option #7) and leave your names and anniversary date. The St. Michael celebration for these special anniversaries during 2017 will be held here in the fall. Invitations to both of the above events will only be sent to those responding to this announcement. Funds from this collection help provide food to the hungry, support to displaced refugees, and Christ s love and respect to all people here at home and abroad. Our Catholic Inquiry Sessions (CIS) may be for you, whether you are Catholic or not. Participants share their questions and experiences of God on their journey of faith. First Communion will be celebrated at the 5:00 and 11:30 Masses the weekends of April and May 6-7. 7 Second Sunday of Easter / Divine Mercy Sunday Serve Others with Us N E E D S N e e d s Y o u! NEEDS (NorthEast Emergency Distribution Services) is in need of people to help once a month. St. Michael Church and SVDP are associated with NEEDS. The pantry and services are available at Kenwood Baptist Church on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. This is when volunteers are needed. Training will be provided. For more information, call Nancy Flem at P r o t e c t i n g O u r C h i l d r e n Are you planning on volunteering with children? All volunteers must attend a VIRTUS training class AND be VIRTUS compliant before interacting with children in any capacity at St. Michael Parish. To be VIRTUS compliant, you must attend a VIRTUS class, complete a background check, and remain current in reading your training bulletins. The cost of completing the background check is $ You may either pay for the background check with a credit card (and we can then reimburse you) or you can contact Patty in the Parish Office for a background check payment token. Our next VIRTUS training session is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. This session will be held in the cafeteria and will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. You must arrive on time and stay for the entire length of the class to receive your Certificate of Attendance. You must pre-register by going to If this date/time doesn t work, you can search online at for a more convenient VIRTUS class. Monthly Training Bulletins It is imperative that you read the monthly training bulletins and answer the related questions, in order to keep your training current to volunteer with our children. To keep your training current, sign into your account MONTHLY on read the training bulletin, and take the quiz at the end. S t. V i n c e n t d e P a u l C o l l e c t i o n Next weekend, April 29-30, is our second 5 th Sunday collection this year for our St. Vincent de Paul conference. Please use the yellow envelope provided with your regular contribution envelopes. We know our conference is blessed to have the support of our wonderful parishioners. If so, this workshop may be for you! Join us on Wednesday, May 3, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for an introspective look into your personality type and a deeper understanding of those around you using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) tool. During this workshop, we'll take a look at our own personalities and the 15 other types of personalities that exist. We'll gain a deeper understanding of how we perceive the world and make decisions, take in information, and get energy. We'll also dispel some of the common misunderstandings about other personalities to help foster greater understanding of our loved ones, improve communication and strengthen our spirituality. Childcare will be provided for the workshop and the only cost associated is the price of the online assessment ($19.95) for those who have not previously taken the MBTI inventory. F a l l S p o r t s R e g i s t r a t i o n St. Michael Parish fall sports are now open for registration! St. Michael Parish athletics are open to any student at St. Michael Parish School or to any registered parishioner enrolled in the Religious Education Program (REP). Golden Bears Football The Golden Bears Football program, representing St. Gabriel, St. Michael, Mother Teresa, St. Maximilian Kolbe, and St. John (West Chester) currently has open registration for the 2017 season. Boys in grades 1-8 participate in the Greater Catholic Youth League. Early Registration ends May 1. Fall Soccer Fall Soccer registration for both boys and girls will close May 1. Girls Volleyball Girls in grades 3-8 ( school year) are eligible to play. Registration closes on May 1. Golf The Golf Team is open to both boys and girls in grades 6-8 ( school year). Cheerleading Girls in grades 3-8 ( school year) are eligible to cheer. Come cheer our Golden Bears football team on to victory! Cheer practice is only one day a week, usually after school. Most games are on Sunday. 10 April 23, 2017 St. Michael Church Sharonville, Ohio Children s Corner G r a d e s K - 1 Sharing the Gospel - Jesus gave the power to forgive sins through his apostles. Today the priests are his apostles. They remind us of how God forgives our sins. You have the power to forgive those who hurt you. It is your choice to forgive as Jesus has forgiven you. It is healthy for you to forgive. Anger makes your body tense and your muscles ache. When you forgive others, God sends his love to fill your body and soul with peace. Prayer - Lord, help me forgive those who hurt me. Something to Draw - Draw yourself forgiving a friend who broke your baseball bat. Mission for the Week I will pray for those who hurt me and forgive them. G r a d e s 2-3 Sharing the Gospel - The disciples must have been very surprised when they saw Jesus alive again. They got to see him, listen to him, and touch him. We don't get to see him like the disciples did after Easter. But Jesus calls us blessed when we believe in him. One day we'll see him again in heaven. Prayer - Jesus, I can hardly wait to see you in heaven. Something to Draw - Draw a picture of Jesus smiling at you from heaven.
