The street sign and the sign on the building were both turned around yesterday, Monday, April 14. Every door sports a bright yellow sign stating, Forest View Medical Center CLOSED. 4 Happy Mother s Day to our good friends and great supporters in the Ladies Auxiliary, and to all moms everywhere! Fraternally yours Chancellor, Ray Cordell Lucky Bucks Winners for April were: Pierce Sheehan, Joseph Lipka and Tom Lazzara. For additional tickets, contact Joe Kramer JKramer001@aol.com Tom Reed has volunteered to take over this position starting after July 1. Want to help? Contact Tom! Chaplain s Report - Deacon Joe Yannotta Link to Joseph During the month of May we pray and pay honor to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and exemplar of the Holy Church. I am not sure how it is with you but, when I think about Mary and her love for God, Jesus her son and Joseph her most chaste spouse, it stirs up memories of my Mom and how she showed her love and care for our family. Growing up in what I think was a typical Italian American home; there were certain practices that were not found in some families. For instance, Dad use to work long days, rise and be out of the house before anyone else was up and returning well after the street lights had flickered on. As was the norm for us, Mom would feed us children dinner early, and upon his return home would serve Dad his dinner and wait at the table, not eating until he was finished. While this may sound very subservient, it was just what she did. She didn t do it because she was told to do it, or was expected to do it; no, she did it out of love and respect for this man who she shared all the good and bad that life had to offer them. And so it was with Mary, answering God s call, out of pure love and faith in God, Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word. (Luke 1:38). These words demonstrate not only devotion but a great love, respect and faith in God. By the power of the Holy Spirit and through the intercession of the Blessed Mother, may we all continue to grow in love, faith and in service to God and to his Holy Church. Most Holy Queen of the Rosary, Pray for us. Deacon Joseph Yannotta Fish Fry Recap. As this newsletter goes to press, we pretty much know how much monies we raised after expenses. Our thanks to Randy Baker, Scott Baxendale, John Selzer and Ed Wendling for spearheading these events. Attend May's business meeting to learn more including amounts to be distributed to our participating parishes, the Squires & Salute. A Reminder From Our Supreme Council. Our Supreme Council recently reminded all Councils fortunate enough to have their own clubhouse of their responsibility to protect the good name, reputation, mission, identity and all trademarks of the Knights of Columbus especially when renting their facilities to outside third parties. Our Council and the Building Corp will be discussing this matter in the months going forward. Please feel to participate at either level in a responsible and thoughtful manner. For more information contact one of our officers or a member of the Building Corp. 4

Brothers, in addition to our elected positions, several other opportunities exist to help, to practice your Catholic values, to serve others and to help your council. Consider pitching in if for only 1 hour per month. There are two ways we can approach these opportunities. The first is for your council to list activities you might be interested in. The second is to listen to you. What do you feel we should do? An idea of yours might prove to be of great interest to many of us. I have put together a survey currently being mailed to our newer members. It is available to all. Simply contact me at MikeMcMahon@wowway.com 5

6 Grand Knight's Message The month of May will be very busy for us and I encourage everyone to get involved in some way. The Clearbrook Dance, Prolife Rosary and celebrating our newest Life Honorees are all great events that the whole family can participate. In May we also open nominations for the officers for the fraternal year. There are some key openings that need to be filled. All third degree members of our council are eligible to hold office and are encouraged to think about giving back to our council by sharing your talent. Other opportunities also exist for 1st & 2nd degree Knights. Now that Lent is over, so too are our Lenten Fish Fries. On behalf of the officers and the membership our thanks to all volunteers that offered their time collecting at the door, sweating over the oil pots, putting up with the cold wind, preparing food in the kitchen, serving, bartending, cleaning the pots and pans and cleaning up afterwards. In summary, the council had another successful fundraiser that will help us serve the membership and continue to do the good works in our communities. Lastly, we will have a First Degree Ceremony for men who desire to join the Knights of Columbus on May 1, 2014 prior to the start of our business meeting. A completed Form 100 is required. Contact us if you have a candidate. Vivat Jesus, Mike McMahon, Grand Knight 6
