1 Grand Knight s Message: Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council No North Hickory Avenue Arlington Heights, IL (847) May 2015 Charity Unity Fraternity Patriotism GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE First and foremost, Happy Mother s Day to all the Moms, Stepmothers, Grandmothers, Wives, etc. and those women who nourished our bodies and souls over the course of our lives. They have stood behind us in good times and bad. THANK YOU! It is not too late to make a donation to assist the victims of the April tornado. Please make your donation payable to: Illinois Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc. (a tax deduction is available as this is a 501(c)(3) organization). Place Illinois tornado on the memo line and give to the Grand Knight. The donations will be submitted together to State. For those who have paid your dues, Thank You. If you are having financial difficulties and cannot pay your dues, please let the Grand Knight and Financial Secretary know. We may be able to help. I encourage ALL Council members to attend as many meetings as you can. Your participation and ideas are welcome. The grass is green, the flowers are starting to bloom and the buds are on the trees. Summer will be here soon along with a new Fraternal Year. Let s make it a great year by following the orders three main principals: Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. Vivat Jesus! 2 Deputy Grand Knight s Report Dear Friends, At the April business meeting, the Charity Committee recommended 4 petitions for donations. The first three were submitted by Respect Life Chairman, Jim McPherrin. The first is for Illinois Right to Life, for a $75.00 donation to by an ad in the Stand Up for Life commemorative book. The second request was for $50.00 for the Pro-Life Action League, the most active pro-life organization in the area. The third request was for $50.00 to the Thomas More Society to assist with their work in protecting human life from cradle to natural death. All three requests were approved by the membership The last charity recommendation came from Brother Knight Bob Gedmin. The request was for $ for Salute to assist with their representation at the Chicago Marathon. Brother Bob is part of the Salute running team. This 501c request was also approved by the membership. At the May business meeting, we will be proposing the officer slate for the fraternal year. At the same meeting, any Knight that has attained the 3 rd Degree is also eligible to be nominated from the floor for an officers position, and have their name placed on the ballot at the election during the June 3 rd business meeting. I encourage all eligible Knights to consider seeking office and becoming engaged in the leadership of Holy Rosary Council. Fraternally yours, Deputy Grand Knight Ray Cordell Warden s Report No report this month. Chaplain s Report We are now into our post-easter celebration which will end with Pentecost Sunday May 24. Several of our scripture passages during this time deal with the resurrection and appearance of Jesus to his disciples and others, in the locked room, on the road to Emmaus, and on the shore at the sea of Tiberius. In each of these Gospel passages Jesus offers proof, He shows the marks of his crucifixion so that they can see, touch and believe that it is he who is standing before them. Even those closest to him did not recognize him at first. Some thought him a ghost and others like Mary Magdalene in the garden did not know it was him until he spoke to her. How do we recognize the risen Christ? Certainly in the Eucharist, in the wine and in his Word. But where else do we encounter Jesus? Is it at the hospital bedside, or homebound that we minister to, on the faces of those who come to our parishes for help and assistance, or in one another as we gather each weekend to give praise and thanks to God our Father for all of his blessings. Everything Jesus did his apostles did- forgave, preached, taught, healed and grew his Church. We, as his Church do the same. We forgive when we mend broken relationships or pray for some who many have hurt us. We preach when we share with our children and others our love for the Gospel and our Catholic traditions. We teach when we live our lives in a way which clearly puts others before ourselves. We heal when we touch others physically or emotionally and let them know that they are not alone in their struggles but have us and our faith community to support them. By these actions and in other more simple ways, we continue to build his Church, the body of Christ. Peace and Blessings Deacon Joseph Yannotta

Please join Holy Rosary Council Knights of Columbus in a special May Crowning ceremony to honor our Blessed Mother. Join us in prayer, fellowship, and devotion to the Mother of God. Come out and show you Fraternity in celebrating these life long members of our order. June event: The 2nd Annual Michael J. McGivney Golf Outing. Cost $ We were also informed at the April social that there is also just dinner available for around $40 if you only want to attend the dinner in support of the event. (See attached Flyer) October Event: Save the date: Coming in the Fall, October 30th, 2015 The Elizabeth Ann Seton Assembly2410 will be hosting the 7th Knight of Patriotism Dinner and Dance, to benefit Northern Illinois Honor Flight Network and the Gary Senise Foundation. The Event will be held at: St Joseph the Worker Church Social Hall 181 W. 4 Fish Fry Final Report Our 2015 Lenten fish fries were a success. They were held four Fridays in February and March and helped raise funds for the Youth Groups at the four parishes affiliated with our council. The parishes and their leaders were St. Colette (Lori Brandt), St. Edna (Nancy Holpuch), St. James (Gail Madden) and Our Lady of Wayside (Kevin O Connell). Our final numbers allowed us to donated $588 (rounded up to $600) to the each of the four youth groups. This amount was 50% of our profits. Two new concepts were introduced this year. The coatroom ran by the Squires and tator tots in lieu of French fries. The Squires worked resourcefully in the coatroom safe guarding winter coats and were rewarded for their efforts with tips and a $150 donation from the Knights. We were pleasantly surprised by how well the tator tots were received. This suggestion by a couple of brother knights allowed us to cook and serve food in a more efficient manner when compared to last year. We were also assisted by the hard work of 43 brother knights including our brothers who run the Building Corp. Everyone s hard work made each evening go smoothly. Some of our brother Knights volunteered all four nights, others helped one or more nights. Everyone s contribution was greatly appreciated. Our unsung heroes braved the cold elements to cook outside, ferried hot food from outside to our serving line, prepared additional food in the heat of the kitchen, gladly assisted in the task of setting up and taking down chairs, bartended for free, empty garbage cans, sold 50/50 tickets, cleaned pots and pans and did whatever was necessary to make the events successful for everyone. A special thanks goes out to Cathy Cordell who bartended each evening!
