Meeting 7:15 P.M. 31 Recycling Avenue Information The recycling bins have arrived for small electronic items, these would include such things as: cellular and cordless phones, laptops, notebooks, ink and print cartridges, digital cameras (still and video), MP3 players, GPS devices, calculators, radar detectors, routers and modems and E-book readers. We will also be collecting items that can be sold on EBay, such as multi-line business phones, Legos, designer purses, die cast model cars, other electronics, Fisher Price toys, cookie jars, sporting goods, Halloween costumes and pet clothes. The items will be taken and recycled by Recycling Avenue, an organization that provides job opportunities for the physically challenged. 2 Corporate Communion Pro-Life News Page 2 HOLY ROSARY COUNCIL IS REVIVING ITS CORPORATE COMMUNION PRACTICE We are reviving the tradition of the K of C Corporate Communion. Starting with St. Edna s on July 31st at the 11:30 AM mass. We plan to have reserved seating. All Holy Rosary Council Knights and their wives, (or a guest), are invited to attend. Please wear your K of C shirts. Notices will be placed in St. Edna bulletin at least two weeks before the event. Then we will rotate to our other feeder parishes whenever there are five Sundays in a given month. The next month this will occur will be this October, ( ). Lucky Bucks Please mark your calendar: Sunday, Oct. 2nd at St. Edna Catholic Church. Please make plans to attend this talk on Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body given by Fr. Thomas Loya. More details to follow. Talk begins at 3:30 pm. All ages invited beginning with the young adult audience. Sunday Mass will be offered following talk at 5:30 pm in the Church. This event is sponsored by the Holy Rosary Council Knights of Columbus. Free will offerings will also be accepted. Don't miss this talk! Did you know that we have a 17-piece band that practices on the first Sunday of the month in our hall? The practice is open to anyone who would like to come and listen. They Big Band play Big-Band and Swing! It is free to come and listen. They usually play from about 10:15AM until about 12:15PM. There are plenty of seats available, so come listen for 2 Committee Help Needed hours and remember the days! The practice schedule is October 2, November 6, and, December 4. Any questions contact Angelo Cozzarelli at for more details. July s winners are: Geraldine Stec, Laura Schoenfeld, Robert Belter Building Upgrade Report We, (John Selzer. Bob Koscielniak, and Dean Sordyl), met with the architect Gary Lira on July 12th to discuss revisions to his original proposals that he presented to the Building Corp Board on June 27, It appears will we try to do this the modeling of the hall in stages. The first two areas of attack are the front facade of the building and the hall washrooms. We must add an A.D.A. bathroom each for men and women. Once the architect does more work, he will provide a preliminary cost estage for these two areas of change. We will keep you informed as we progress further. Also remember that at the September meeting 4 members of the Board of Directors are up for re-election. They are: Angie Cozzarelli, Bob Amend, Ken Kudla, and Dean Sordyl. If you are interested in joining the Board, contact Dean Sordyl. Squires: With Joe Wendling having moved out West, we are looking for some more members to work with the Squires. The Squires try to meet once or twice a month, and are in need of some guidance in organizing their activities. We will depart at 7:30 A.M. and return at 1:00 P.M. Volunteers will unload a semi-truck load of food and packages for needy families. 3 Warden s Report July Donations Page 3 This is a busy time for all of us as August is traditionally the last month of summer. Take time to enjoy the various activities that are available to you and your family including the social activities mentioned elsewhere in this newsletter. However, council activity is not taking a summer vacation. Things are busy. Check out the calendar in this newsletter for all the information. We are off to a good start toward achieving our goals. On Friday evening August 12th we will have a booth at the Mane Event in downtown Arlington Heights. The Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary story will be in front of an estimated 8,000-10,000 visitors and perhaps we will attract many new members. We are also looking at hosting coffees in our parishes. More importantly we will have our initial first degree at our September 1st business meeting. Please invite those who you have been trying to recruit to both the August social meeting (BBQ) and to the first degree meeting. Also for all those brothers who have recruited members in the past I say thank you. I would like to extend an invitation to all those brother knights who have not been able to attend our business meetings in the past. We will continue to strive for short and productive meetings. Our first meeting in July lasted one hour and five minutes. Looking ahead please keep September open for our annual ID Tootsie Roll drive. The ID committee is hard at work and will need everyone s support. The ID committee goal this year is $25,000. We will have between groups participating this year. Thank you again to all our PGK s and those who for so many years have built this great council. Finally, let us remember all those council members and families who need our prayers at this time.
