1 Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council No North Hickory Avenue Arlington Heights, IL (847) September 2015 Charity Unity Fraternity Patriotism GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE Dear Friends, It is hard to believe that summer is almost over. I am sure we will still have many warm (hot) days and sunshine aplenty, but September brings the return of school and an assurance that fall is around the corner. September also herald s the annual ID drive. This is the biggest fundraising event for the Knights of Columbus and Holy Rosary Council of the year, and DKG Marier has been working very hard to pull everything together. Please help out at your parishes and on the corners to make this year the best ID Drive ever. I want to extend a happy birthday to our hall. The building at 15 N. Hickory has been the Council s home for half a century and even though she has aged and shows some years, she still provides us a place to meet, eat, drink and promote our good works. I constantly hear from Knights at other councils how lucky we are, I agree and at times I think we take it for granted. Our brothers that had the foresight and fortitude to acquire, pay for, decorate and maintain the building located at 15 N. Hickory, Arlington Heights, IL deserve our gratitude and public acknowledgement. No matter what the name is on the door this is our home and a part of our identity. So as the weather cools and we move indoors, what better place to go than the KC Hall and renew friendships, make new ones and support the many activities that are planned to promote our tenants of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. God bless you and your family. Please remember school is open, so drive carefully and protect our future. Grand Knight Ray Cordell

3 Chaplain s Report Well it s back to school. The Archdiocese of Chicago has a program called Teach Who Christ is. It is a fund raiser to support the Catholic Schools in the diocese. So, Who was it that taught you about Christ? Like most of us it was my parents, Mom specifically, who taught me about Christ and our faith and it was re-enforced by the Sisters at St. Athanasius Catholic School in Brooklyn. Over the years I ve found that learning who Christ is, cannot be a one and done subject. Throughout my life Jesus has been a friend, a counselor, guardian and most of all my Savior and a reminder of all that is good in my life. So who has taught you about Christ? Who is it you are teaching about Christ? Recently I saw a brochure in our Narthex titled 10 Things that make a GREAT Catholic Dad. If you see it pick one up. It can be a great resource for you or for someone in your life. Here is a brief summary of what it said; Keep the Lord s Day - Worship as a family. Kids imitate what they see. Teach your children Show and explain the things that make being a Catholic so wonderful. Forgiveness Show it not only for their misdeeds but for all who have hurt us as well. Give Give freely of your time, talents and treasures, both to your family and others. Play- Have fun with your family, be present to them in and out of playtime. Get caught praying- Again, children learn by example. Don t be a know-it-all Research and discover the answers to life s hard questions together. Might is not right Explain that what they see in others may not be in line with Catholic values. Let it shine- Be a cheer leader, encourage them when they do well and give praise always. Traditions Explain and practice, the liturgy and why we do what we do as Catholics. As I mentioned, it s a summary and the brochure can give you more details. St. Francis said, "Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary". Peace and blessing Deacon Joseph Yannotta Chancellor s Report Hello to all my fellow Knights.
