1 Peralta Memorial United Methodist Church 25 Wesley Rd -- Peralta, NM Telephone: Office hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:30 am-3:00 pm Website: Church LOVE GOD.LOVE PEOPLE.REACH OUT HUMAN SEXUALITY MEETING If you ve been following the media, you may be hearing that the United Methodist Church is going to be holding a General Conference meeting in February 2019 to deal with the issue of human sexuality. Here at Peralta Memorial UMC, we want to make sure you are informed of what is going on. Therefore, we are holding an informational meeting about the issue of human sexuality in the sanctuary on Monday June 4 th at 6:30 PM. The meeting will be led by the church s Administrative Council, our main decision-making body for the church. I want to emphasize that this is an informational meeting only. No decisions are being made at this time. At this meeting you will learn: The official current position of the United Methodist Church regarding homosexuality as it relates to the conduct of pastors. Some of the verses in the Bible that discuss homosexuality. Why this special General Conference is taking place in February How New Mexico will be represented at this General Conference. Some of the proposals that will be presented to the February 2019 General Conference. Currently, the United Methodist Church declares that pastors must either be faithfully married in a heterosexual marriage or celibate in singleness. Also, United Methodist pastors and churches currently may not perform samesex weddings. There s a good chance that the outcome of the February 2019 General Conference will reinforce the church s current position. If that happens, no action will be necessary at Peralta Memorial UMC because we are already following these rules. Should the General Conference decide differently, we will enter into a time of discernment to figure our way forward according to our interpretation of Scripture at Peralta Memorial UMC. Now is the time to listen, pray, and care. Now is the time to study Scripture and come before God. Now is not the time to come against one another. I truly believe that God has this situation and issue under control. If you have something to say to me, my ears and heart are open to you whatever your beliefs on Scripture, homosexuality, and the church. I also hope that you will be in open dialogue with the members of our Administrative Council and church leadership. Even though these may be difficult conversations to have, my hope is that through them we will come to know each other better, care about each other more, and become a stronger church. Pastor David
2 UMW/Mary Circle Invitation to EVERYONE Join us on June 12 th at 9:30 am for an informational discussion of funeral and future-planning issues presented by Noblin Funeral Home. The meeting will take place in Fellowship Hall and refreshments will be served. We d like to THANK everyone who supported our pre-mother s Day Bake Sale. It was an extraordinary success and we sold all of the flower arrangements and nearly all the baked products. (The remaining items were shared by anyone who ventured into the Fellowship Hall later). By your generosity we netted $700, which will go toward mission projects. So THANK YOU so much for all your help to make it such a success!! Pre-school (age 4 and potty trained) through 6 th grade may participate. We are always looking for leaders to help us out with VBS. We are particularly in need of adult leaders for crafts, games, and crew leaders. If you can t help during VBS we are also needing donations of items to make VBS successful. Remember, if you are participating in VBS you need to be Safe Sanctuaries trained. Final in-person training is June 2 nd at 10 am, or online training is available. Training must be completed by June 4th. On Sunday, June 17 th we will be having a Father s Day Bake Sale after each service. This bake sale will help with funds for VBS. You may register your child with Genevieve our church secretary, Shawnda the VBS director, after certain services, or when you come to VBS. We would greatly appreciate your support!!! As always, we are grateful for everyone s help and prayers. If you have any question please contact Shawnda slumpkin@llschools.net or God Bless You, Shawnda Lumpkin Becky Eubank Shelby Eubank VBS Directors
