On May 8th, myself and Ed Pruitt attended the opening of The Clubhouse Bar & Grill located at the Red Hook Golf Club. A huge crowd of golfers, neighbors and well wishers were on hand to welcome new owners, Kim Mastro and Elise Benton and partake in their wonderful food and hospitality. Pictures of this event are on Pg. 6 of this issue. Our monthly Membership Breakfast on May 20th, at An Apple a Day Diner was well attended thanks to the delicious food offered and the informative speakers. Thank you to Councilman Harry Colgan, Town of Red Hook, Trustee Brent Kovalcik, Village of Red Hook for introducing our presenters Bill O Neill, Chairman of the Intermunicipal Task Force and Bridget Barclay of the County Water and Waste Authority. Their presentation about the proposed sewer system in Red Hook was informative and provided a forum for questions and answers that was appreciated by the attendees. Pictures of the breakfast are on Pg. 4 of this issue. We had perfect weather and the perfect crowd at the Chamber s mixer on Friday, June 12. Held at the beautiful Kaatsbaan International Dance Center in Tivoli in the spacious Studio Complex. EMMA S CORNER This is the last edition of Emma s Corner. As I am no longer employed by the Chamber. These are my last monthly notes I will be submitting to the newsletter. I will to the best of my ability fulfill the two commitments I made to the Chamber. I will finish the pictorial history of Red Hook Then & Now. I much appreciate all the time Tom Sullivan of Orchard View Studio has given to the project. We will be meeting sometime in July to coordinate the pictures and other details. My second commitment is to the 50th anniversary committee. In 2010, the Chamber will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary. I will do all I can to help bring an outstanding program for the Chamber s accomplishment. I want to thank all the members for all their courtesies to me. The June mixer was an opportunity to socialize with business owners, elected officials and residents from our community, as well as explore and discover the beauty of Kaatsbaan. The silent auction was a big hit. We thank all who donated items and as many happy winners claimed their treasures, we all agreed that we were looking forward to the next Chamber event. When? Check our website for announcements! (see pictures on pg. 4.) A big thank you to the Rhinebeck Savings Bank for their generous sponsorship of this season s must attend event. Our June 17th monthly membership breakfast meeting at Apple a Day Diner was an opportunity to have a great breakfast with fellow Chamber members and discuss issues important to our area s economic health and growth. Now that we have entered our busy summer season, we will put our monthly breakfast meetings on hiatus and resume in September. Our website and s will keep you posted about the September date and speaker, so until then...remember to Shop, Eat and Enjoy Local First. COMMUNITY EVENTS July 24, Red Hook Fire Dept. 3rd Annual Block Party Community Parade - Friday evening, July 24th. Lineup is 6pm at Linden Ave Middle School. Step off at 7pm. Parade on Saturday at 4pm. Block party is Friday at 5pm and Saturday beginning at 2pm. Games, Food, Kids Activities, Fireworks on Saturday evening at dusk. 6 Hardscrabble Page 6 The Clubhouse Bar & Grill Grand Opening on May 8th at The Red Hook Golf Club Rhinebeck Savings Bank Announces Community Giving Program Congratulations to Kim Mastro and Elise Benton June 18, 2009 With the recent opening of their new branch on Route 9D, just south of Dutchess Stadium, Michael J Quinn, President & CEO of Rhinebeck Savings Bank, announces a new program for community giving. This unique grant program provides funding to local nonprofit organizations for the new market area based on branch deposits that accrue over the first year of the branch s operations. The Bank will commit to donating $2,000 for every $1,000,000 in deposit growth at the Beacon area branch between June 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010 with grants becoming available as the branch reaches each new milestone states Mr. Quinn. Since the Bank anticipates acquiring customers from both the Beacon and Wappingers Falls areas, all nonprofit organizations serving the Wappingers Falls and Beacon areas are eligible to apply for assistance. This amounts to a generous gift to the community, but also provides an incentive for community minded individuals and businesses to conduct business with Rhinebeck Savings Bank. The Bank will seek out a group of community leaders to assist in evaluating and granting requests received under the program. 7 July/Aug 2009 Page 7 Member Spotlight Mary Beth Halpin of Events by MB A special thank you to Mary Beth, and her mother Pat, who provided us with a wonderful evening at our June 12 mixer at the Kaatsbaan Dance Center in Tivoli. Mary Beth is the founder and President of Events by MB and Meetings by MB. Since founding Meetings by MB in 1984, she has worked for many Fortune 500 companies primarily in the financial and health care sectors. In 1990 weddings were added to the business mix. She has planned and executed weddings in the Massachusetts Berkshires at Chesterwood Museum and in Maine at Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor. She s now based in the Hudson Valley focusing on Hudson Valley Weddings, special events and meetings. Be sure to log on to her website for more information.
