Box 10355, Danville, VA As we head into summer m a n y o f u s w i l l b e traveling and enjoying vacations with family and friends. Church attendance usually drops in the summer but the w o r k o f t h e c h u r c h continues. The sanctuary still needs to be prepared for Sunday services, routine maintenance needs to be preformed around the building, bulletins printed, grass mowed, and bills paid. Please remember to keep up with your financial pledge so we can start the fall on a positive note. Please speak to myself or John Fifield if you re interested in volunteering to help fill-in for people that are away. Unfortunately, the outside heat/ac unit for the offices and altar guild rooms need to be replaced. It was was only 13 years old but the part we need is no longer available. John Fifield is awaiting a second quote but we should have it up and running soon. The Vestry approved transferring money from our General Operating account to the Building Fund to pay for the repairs and not take the money from the McCollum Fund which provides the best positive interests of all our accounts. I know I ve said this before but, please, let me know if you re sick, going to have surgery, need a ride to a doctors appointment, or just want someone to stop by for a visit. Your church family is here to help. On Father s Day, June 17th, Jason Hall will be baptized during the 10:00 a.m. service. Please plan to attend and support Jason as he is marked a God s own forever. Several months ago, I requested that the bishop visit Christ Church this fall to perform a confirmation service. They had not started working on the bishops fall schedule yet but a request was added to the list. We have several children and adults that would be great candidates for confirmation. Keep an eye out for more information once I hear back from the diocese. Several of our regular supply Priest are traveling this summer and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find replacements. It just doesn t make financial sense to pay mileage for someone to drive in from Williamsburg or Norfolk. If we do have morning prayer please come and support these unpaid volunteers who to put the time and effort into their preparation. We did it!! Our May 19 th yard sale was a huge success! It looks like when all is said and done, we will have made over a thousand dollars!

I want to thank everyone who helped make this happen, from our daily trippers who were here from 7-9 pm every night the week preceding the sale, schlepping boxes from the garage into the Fellowship Hall, organizing the tables and pricing (which felt like an unending job), our early birds who arrived at 6:30 a.m. the day of the sale, the worker bees who worked on Saturday and then stayed to pack up. We were all packed up and boxes back into the garage in 45 minutes! That was amazing! Most of what went back into the garage will find a new home in the next week or so. Someone asked at the yard sale where the monies go that we raise. I told them we use these monies for Outreach. At Christmas this past year, we donated monies to help finish putting together the Blessing Buckets for God s Storehouse. With a grade full of items in March and April, we also were able to help two fire victim families with furniture that had been stored for our yard sale. The Sunday School will be taking the summer off and will resume after Labor Day.

We have a had a great year and I am so grateful to be a part of the lives of the youth of this church.

We also collected over 150 pounds of food for God's Storehouse during our Lenten Food drive.

The kids also have been exploring contemporary music some of which was used in the youth Sunday service. The Sunday School will be taking the summer off and will resume after Labor Day. Thank you for all of your support and bringing your children and grandchildren to Sunday School this year. We have a had a great year and I am so grateful to be a part of the lives of the youth of this church. -Kristi With our Lenten coin cards & special offering we were able to raise $639 for the Christ Church Prayer Shawl Ministry. We also collected over 150 pounds of food for God's Storehouse during our Lenten Food drive. 4 Holy Week at Christ Church began with a snowy start on Palm Sunday and ended with a beautiful sunny day on Easter. The attendance at the Seder Supper and Maundy Thursday Service was wonderful and was a blessing to share in the journey with Jesus with so many members. After the Maundy Thursday service several of our members had the privilege of keeping watch with Jesus as they prayed during the Vigil. The Good Friday Stations of the Cross was also well attended as we experienced the last hours of Jesus life. Saturday morning the ladies of the Altar Guild prepared the church for Easter with wiping down, polishing and cleaning. Easter morning arrived with Sun in the sky and smiles on the faces as the children arrived with baskets and tales of what was left behind by the Easter Bunny. The 13 children in Sunday School Easter morning could hardly wait to find the brightly colored eggs that decorated the front lawn of the church. The music was glorious and the flowers made the church shine as we celebrated the Risen Lord. Alleluia, Alleluia! From start to finish this years Holy Week at Christ Church was a prayerful and beautiful tribute to the work of our little church. Thank you to all who attended and helped make this week a success.

5 This is a day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. What an uplifting, proud and fun day of fellowship and celebration of our youth. The youth members did a phenomenal job leading us in worship, reading lessons and giving the sermon. What a blessing for our church to witness God s love growing in these children and that we can help fan that flame for the future of our church and the world today. After the service the weather held off and the sun came out. Thank you to Grill Master, Jerry, and to all who brought dishes to share, the food was delicious. The children had a great time in the bounce house and playing May 20th, 2018 games. It was so much fun watching them play pass the present, doing sack and the water balloons on the spoon races. The adults had a great time fellowshipping with one another, playing corn hole and even a few braved the bounce house. As the day began to wind down there were groans from the wet, sweaty kids that didn t want it to end. Thank you to all who made this day possible and for your continued prayers and support of our youth members.

Congratulations to Kyle Pruitt in his competition performance in Busch Gardens on Saturday, May 19th. Kyle will be performing with GW s band next year. Congratulations to Hannah on being the top AR point earner for her class and the entire third grade. She also was awarded perfect attendance, advanced SOL scores, and A/B yearly average this year at Southside Elementary. Hannah will be moving on to 4th grade next year. Hannah completed her first year of Swim Team at the YMCA and enjoys her time in the water. Congratulations to Abigail who graduated from Preschool at Southside Elementary and will be heading off to Kindergarten in the Fall. Abigail was blessed to have Lucille Baynes granddaughter, Stephanie Long, for her teacher this year. Abigail loved her time in preschool and is looking forward to Kindergarten to begin to learn to read like her sisters. The annual Relay for Life of Danville and Pittsylvania County was held on Friday, M a y 1 1 a t t h e Carrington Pavilion to benefit the American C a n c e r S o c i e t y. Leading up to this event, my company team, DTI Trotters raised $4,420. We were very successful in surpassing our goal of $2,500. Our team placed 4 th overall out of 25 teams. Michael and I just wanted to thank everyone who donated. We plan on participating again next year. -Cathy Ballenger Anna placed 2nd in the Summer Yearling Class with her heifer named Valentine at the Southside Dairy Association Dairy Cattle Show held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Old Dominion Agricultural Complex in Chatham, VA. She also placed 4th in Senior Showmanship with a cow named Scarlet and placed 4th in the Summer Calf Type Class with a calf named CiCi. The event is held annually and this is the 3rd year Anna has attended the Dairy show open to children 8 years old through seniors in high school. Through the Southside Dairy Association, she has been working with Holsteins at Mountain View Dairy Farm in Chatham, VA. There are various dairy farms as well as heifers and cows from home raised farms located in Pittsylvania County that attend. Anna is already preparing for next April's show and working with a new calf named Rosemary born in March.
