1 April 2018 The Messenger A Monthly Newsletter from Resurrection Lutheran Church CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED! This past Sunday, we celebrated the Resurrection of Our Lord and shouted together, "Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!" Easter Sunday is such a joyous Sunday of the church year, even when coats need to be worn over our Easter best because it's chilly outside. This year was my third Easter among the community here at RLC, and I've come to recognize the people who worship with us at this time of year. It's always nice to see familiar faces, preschool families, and our regulars all gathered in the sanctuary singing and shouting at God's victory over death and God's presence with us today. We proclaim Christ is risen, and I wonder how we experience it in our daily lives... What signs do you see that attest to the Risen Lord? How do you experience God alive, active, around today? What (or who) are you encountering that proclaims that life and joy and reconciliation and forgiveness and hope are alive in God's world today? How do you live into and contribute to God's life and love in the world? During these 50 days of Easter, I invite you to think on these questions as we give thanks for Christ who is risen indeed! Representative from Lawrence Hall will be with us on April 15th for a special Adult Forum at 9:45a.m. Please plan to join us in learning more! 4 COUNCIL THANKSGIVINGS & NEWS At our April Council Meeting, we gave thanks for... A fun and successful Preschool Apple Bash and matching grant from the Cubs Charities. Seminarian Maija and her wonderful series on Refugees Jackie Grinvalds, Viktoria Erhardt, Opal Katsma, and Anne Roberts for providing soup for our Lenten Midweek Book Group. Ryan Hunt and the Building Committee for all their hard work. You may have noticed... Repairs began on the basement of the Church building during Holy Week. This is the drywall and framing that was damaged in August 2016 when the basement flooded. A hole in the ceiling inside the entrance on School Street by the lift. We have started exploring why the flat roof still leaks and what next steps in repairing it will be. Thank you to... Opal Katsma and Keith for offering a snowblower to our congregation! The Dirlams for offering a television! Please continue to hold our council in prayer and to give generously so that our ministry can thrive! In March, the Men's Group volunteered with South Loop Campus Ministry to prepare and serve a meal. These prayers are written or selected by members of our Stewardship Team for use in Sunday worship and for personal prayer in the month after used in worship. March 4 Just God, we thank you for the right to participate in our primary election being held this month. May we all embrace the privilege and responsibility of this right by learning about the candidates for various Illinois, county and other offices, registering to vote and casting our ballots. March 11 Dear Lord, today we pray for St Patrick whose faithful devotion to God and prayer provides an example for us today. Remind us that even in the darkest of times, your love shines over all of us. You come to our aid, you bless us, and you are always with us. Thank you for your grace and favor which forms our firm foundation as you pave our paths and lead our way. March 18 Dear Lord, We pray for Margaret, Reid, and Grady as they receive their first communion this day. As this sacrament continues to nourish their faith journey may they always feel the support and guidance of family and church members. May they continue to know the sacrifice and love of Jesus Christ as they experience the true presence of Christ in the bread and wine. March 25 We pray for this assembly. For those preparing for Holy Week worship. For musicians, altar guilds, ushers, and all who lead us and provide hospitality in Jesus' name.
