1 ZIONEWS Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church May Congregational Council Richard Bevington President William Bossetti Finance & Administration Tim Kostel Property & Facilities Karen Dehn Youth & Young Adults Andrew Gundlach Secretary/Treasurer Suzanne Jeffery Worship & Music Nancy Kinsel Mission & Stewardship Darlene Lowery Parish Life Judy McEowen Outreach Carla Mitchell Faith Formation Mike Todi Vice President As I have said often, where does the time go? It seems as though I just wrote an article for the Zion News and here it is, time to write another one. The other thing that it is difficult to realize is that I have been serving as your Interim Pastor for a year come the middle of the month. Again, where has the time gone. We still have a lot of work ahead of us. The cottage meetings are about completed. It will be interesting to see what they reveal. In the meantime, we need to continue to be focusing on our ministry in the here and now. Are we continuing the ministries that we have been doing. I realize that there are some things that might be slipping under the table because I am not here full time. That is where we are relying on those of you who have been engaged in various aspects of the ministry to keep up your good work. It is also necessary that others of you step up where you think some ministry might be lacking. Don't be commenting about how this or that used to be done. Step up and do it. We are all called to be ministers of Christ's Church. He passed his ministry on to his disciples. This month we will be celebrating Pentecost, the time when the tongues of fire come upon the disciples and they spoke in various languages. They were called to do ministry, to proclaim God's story to all people. In our baptism, we were sealed and marked by that same Spirit in order that we might carry on that mission, proclaim that same message. Pastor Ralph
2 Carolyn's Corner... May is a month of celebrations: Mothers Day, proms and graduations and Pentecost. We also celebrate our young folks affirming their faith. It s now time for them to take more responsibility for the promises made by someone else at their baptism. When they affirm their faith (are confirmed), they become full members of the Church, with all the responsibilities of membership. While they aren t able vote on contracts and legal issues until they are of legal age, they are able to participate in everything else in the congregation. To KarleeAnn, Lily, Loretta, Cameron, and Miguel, we say, well done. May God continue to bless your faith journey. Blessings, Carolyn Church Addresses Pastor Ralph Schibler: rfschibler@roadrunner.com Carolyn Steinfeldt, AiM: csteinaim@zionsandusky.org Lori Harris, Office Admin.: loriharris@zionsandusky.org Church Websites (Zion Lutheran Church) (Northwestern Ohio Synod) (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) May 15th we celebrate Pentecost, and it should be a celebration. In the Christian Church, Pentecost is considered the birth of the church, when God s Spirit appeared in a rather spectacular way. Read Acts 2 to hear how God appeared and what the results were. Imagine yourself in that room with the disciples. How might you feel? How might you respond?

6 Greetings on this beautiful spring day! Hopefully, winter is gone until next December! Due to the beautiful snow we had on April 9th, the women's "spring" conference was canceled. Who would have thought that would happen?! Thus, there is no report. However, May is almost here, so hopefully, we won't have that problem again, for a few months. Our annual "Spring Fling", will be held on Tues., May 17th. This is a potluck dinner that is open to all members. Beverages and table service will be provided. The main program is "K-9's for Christ". Dinner will begin at 6:00, with the program starting at 7:15. This should prove to be an interesting and entertaining evening. Please, come and join us for a delightful evening and wonderful fellowship! There is a sign-up sheet on the Kiosk, in the Gathering Room. On Wed., May 18 th, Zion will host our first monthly Noon Meal. This will be known as CHAT & CHEW. We will have a short devotional or scripture, some discussion, eat lunch, and have social time. This is a take - off from our Advent and Lenten noon lunches, only there will not be an actual service. Come and join us for an inspiring and enjoyable noon hour! No sign up necessary. Recently, I found an interesting clipping in one of my mother's Bibles. Oddly enough, I found it at a profound time, which allowed me to share it with a family member. I'd like to share it with you, as it is good advice for all of us. Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. Begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. This day is all that is good and fair. It is too dear with its hopes and invitations to waste a moment on the yesterdays. (Author Unknown) Hope to see all of you at the Spring Fling! Until next time, God bless you all! Carla ZELCW President ZIONEWS ARTICLES DUE May 23, 2016 Please remember that you must submit a written article in order for it to appear in the newsletter.
