In the resurrection Jesus not only was raised from the dead; Jesus returned to us. The risen Christ returns to his grieving followers. Time and again God is with us, not because we are able to come to God but rather because God comes to us. All our faith, all our hope rests upon this assertion: Christ is risen! He risen indeed! Alleluia!! Prelude Crown Him With Many Crowns Arr. Wallace and Head Soloist: Matt Kennedy Children's message: Alleluia Pastor: Christ is risen! People: He is risen indeed! Alleluia! 3 Pastor: Alleluia! The grace of our risen Lord Jesus, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all! People: And also with you! Alleluia! 3
Pastor: Let us pray. God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is alive and has become the Lord of life.. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ, and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with him, Through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. People: Amen Cherub Choir Anthem Hallelujah, Jesus Lives Dorothy & Ralph Schultz First Reading Jeremiah 31:1-6 At that time, says the LORD, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people. 2 Thus says the LORD: The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, 3 the LORD appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. 4 Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall take your tambourines, and go forth in the dance of the merrymakers. 5 Again you shall plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy the fruit. 6 For there shall be a day when sentinels will call in the hill country of Ephraim:"Come, let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God." Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Second Reading Acts 10: Then Peter began to speak to them: "I truly understand that God shows no partiality, 35 but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36 You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ he is Lord of all. 37 That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 39 We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; 40 but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, 41 not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. (please stand) 4
The stone which the builders rejected becomes the cornerstone chosen. Praise the work of God for this marvel in our eyes. Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to the 20 th chapter of John People: Glory to you, O Lord. Gospel John 20:1-18 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him." 3 Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. 4 The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, 7 and the cloth that had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples returned to their homes. 11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; 12 and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. 13 They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him." 14 When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away." 16 Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, "Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them that he had said these things to her. Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, O Christ. 5 (repeat Alleliua)
Senior Choir anthem Resurrection Joy Lloyd Larson Trumpet: Matt Kennedy Sermon (please stand) "The Lord Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed! He Really Is!" Senior Choir Anthem Hallelujah Chorus (from Messiah ) Handel APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of the People L: For this we pray C: Hear us, living God. Offering Thine Is The Glory Robert Hobby Offertory Hymn #388 "Be Not Afraid" Be not afraid, sing out for joy! 7 Pastor: It is indeed right we praise your name and join their unending hymn: Pastor: You are indeed holy we proclaim the Lord s death until He comes. Pastor: Remembering therefore, his salutary command Be all honor and glory in your holy church, now and forever. Pastor: Lord, remember us your kingdom and teach us to pray: LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us his day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen Distribution of Communion (continuous flow method) 7
Hymn #380 Hallelujah! Jesus Lives! Hallelujah! Jesus lives! He is now the Living One; from the gloomy halls of death Christ, the conqueror, has gone, bright forerunner to the skies of his people, yet to rise. Jesus lives! Why do you weep? Why that sad and mournful sigh? Christ who died our brother here lives our brother still on high, lives forever to bestow blessings on his church below. Jesus lives! And thus, my soul, life eternal waits for you; joined to Christ, your living head, where he is, you shall be too; with the Lord, at God's right hand, as a victor you shall stand. Jesus lives! Let all rejoice. Praise him, ransomed of the earth. Praise him in a nobler song, cherubim of heav'nly birth. Praise the victor king, whose sway sin and death and hell obey. Hallelujah! Angels, sing! Join with us in hymns of praise. Let your chorus swell the strain which our feebler voices raise: Glory to our God above and on earth his peace and love! Hymn #361 The Day of Resurrection! The day of resurrection! Earth, tell it out abroad, the passover of gladness, the passover of God. From death to life eternal, from sin's dominion free, our Christ has brought us over with hymns of victory. Let hearts be purged of evil that we may see aright the Lord in rays eternal of resurrection light, and list'ning to his accents, may hear, so calm and plain, his own "All hail!" and hearing, may raise the glad refrain. Now let the heav'ns be joyful, let earth its song begin, the round world keep high triumph and all that is therein. Let all things, seen and unseen, their notes of gladness blend; for Christ the Lord has risen, our joy that has no end! All praise to God the Father, all praise to Christ the Son, all praise to God the Spirit, eternal Three in One! Let all the ransomed number fall down before the throne, and honor, pow'r, and glory ascribe to God alone! 8
Hymn #471 Let Us Break Bread Together Let us break bread together on our knees; let us break bread together on our knees. Refrain When I fall on my knees, with my face to the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me. Let us drink wine together on our knees; let us drink wine together on our knees. Refrain Let us praise God together on our knees; let us praise God together on our knees. Refrain Hymn #485 I Am The Bread Of Life "I am the Bread of life. You who come to me shall not hunger, and who believe in me shall not thirst. No one can come to me unless the Father beckons." Refrain "And I will raise you up, and I will raise you up, and I will raise you up on the last day." "The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world, and if you eat of this bread, you shall live forever, you shall live forever." Refrain "Unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink of his blood, and drink of his blood, you shall not have life within you." Refrain "I am the resurrection, I am the life. If you believe in me, even though you die, you shall live forever." Refrain Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who have come into the world. Refrain 9
Pastor: The body and blood of our risen Lord and Savior, strengthen you and keep you in His grace! People: Amen. Pastor: Let us pray. We have tasted your goodness, O God, in Your gifts of word and sacrament. May our hearts burn within us, that we may proclaim Your mighty acts and joyfully live as Your holy people, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. People: Amen Benediction Closing Hymn #366 "The Strife Is O'er, The Battle Done" Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! The strife is o er, the battle done; Now is the victor s triumph won! Now be the song of praise begun. Alleluia! The pow rs of death have done their worst, But Christ their legions has dispersed. Let shouts of holy joy outburst. Alleluia! The three sad days have quickly sped, He rises glorious from the dead. All glory to our risen head! Alleluia! He broke the age-bound chains of hell; The bars from heav n s high portals fell. Let hymns of praise his triumph tell. Alleluia! Dismissal Lord, by the stripes which wounded you, From death s sting free your servants too, That we may live and sing to you. Alleluia! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! Pastor: Christ is risen! Go in peace! Serve the risen Lord! People: He is risen indeed! Thanks be to God! Alleluia!
