One may form or cut food into simple shapes on Shabbat, such as in cutting rectangular or triangle pieces of cake. However, one may not write letters, draw pictures, or cut or mold food into elaborate or meaningful shapes or designs; this is considered a form of writing. For example, one may not use a fruitcutting knife which creates a design in the fruit it cuts, and one may not put whitefish into a mold to create a fish-shaped presentation. At BAYT, members only need to complete an Obligations application once every three years so long as the member s financial circumstances don t change, which can be confirmed annually by signing a confirmation form. In other words, when an Obligations application is submitted, membership dues would be set for that year and the next two years (unless otherwise indicated). Of course, any member who had suffered a downturn in their financial situation is free to submit a new Obligations application and ask for a revised assessment. If your last application was for , please make sure you pick up an Obligations application from the office or download one from the Shul s website. If you submitted an application for either last year or the year before, and your financial circumstances have not changed, then you can keep your dues at the same level by filling out a confirmation form.
