Please note the following: Entry into the building between 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM will be through the York Hill Blvd. doors. After 1:30 PM the Parking Lot Doors will reopen The Moshe & Mania Gruda Bais Medrash will only be used in the evening, and entry will be through the door closest to the Jarvis Freedman Library. A passageway will exist in the Rebbetzin Judy Taub Hall to reach the other side of the building for entry to the West Wing, Simcha Suite, Jarvis Freedman Library and Moshe & Mania Gruda Bais Medrash before 9:30 AM and after 1:30 PM When the Parking Lot Doors will be open, the stairs will be under construction but the ramp is usable. We appreciate your cooperation while we continue to make improvements to BAYT to better service our members and guests. Chazarat hashatz serves two functions: 1. It enables those who are unfamiliar with the amidah to fulfill their obligation by listening to the chazan; 2. It creates a communal opportunity to recite Kedushah and Birkat Kohanim. Listening to each berachah and answering Amen is meritorious. Further, Chazarat hashatz requires a minyan. Therefore, each participant should listen and respond to the chazan, and may not speak of extraneous matters. Indeed, many halachic authorities even prohibit Torah study (including reading Weekly Halachah colums) during Chazarat hashatz. Based on this, it appears that reading is prohibited. One who must check for an urgent during Chazarat hashatz should consider stepping out of shul, to avoid marit ayin. Second Aliyah: (26:6) Why did Yitzchak choose to live in Gerar, land of the Philistines? Third Aliyah: What s the significance of digging wells and giving them names? Fourth Aliyah: (26:29) How could Avimelech claim that he had sent Yitzchak away peacefully when Yitzchak was constantly being disputed over his wells? Fifth Aliyah: (26:33-34) What s the connection between the digging of seven wells and Esav getting married? A PRACTICAL INCLUSION TIP So ALL of Us Feel Valued and Welcome at BAYT The Holocaust: Persecution of the Disabled From the years 1933 until 1941 Adolph Hitler y sh embarked on a campaign to exterminate mentally and physically disabled persons because they were seen as being too unfit to contribute to the German economy. State sanctioned measures such as forced abortion, sterilization, and euthanasia resulted in hundreds of thousands of citizens being murdered. Human beings were viewed as a means towards state ends to be disposed of when deemed not useful. Judaism teaches us the exact opposite. Man is created in the image of G-d (Gen.1/26) and is therefore to be honored and respected for his own sake. The Torah enjoins us to walk in the ways of G-d (Deut.10/12; 11/22) by being loving, merciful, and compassionate towards all of G-d s creation. We do not view our duty to assist the disabled as a burden but rather as a privilege which draws us closer to G-d and makes us truly human. May the merit of our support for the disabled usher in the days of Mashiach and the Final Redemption. Kain yehi ratzon! 7 BAYT YOUTH INCLUSION and BAYT Teens Every week, a group of wonderful Teens perform beautiful acts of Chesed without any encouragement or fanfare. They visit the elderly. Members and Non members who are ill. Children and Adults with various special needs. They spend either a few minutes or up to an hour giving divrei torah, making Kiddush, sharing some jokes or just stopping by to say Good Shabbos. If you know anyone who might like a visit or you know a Teen who might like to be part of this program, please contact Rich at rich@bayt.ca. BDL bayteen DINE 'N' LEARN This program in it's 6th year consists of a 20 minute guest speaker, followed by chavrusa learning and ending with Dinner. Location: West Wing Room #1 BDL BOYS Wed.
