C* West Wing Library (Men Only) Sof Zman Krias Shema: Sun Fri: 9:29 am 9:30 am Most authorities maintain that recitation of Tachanun began as a voluntary prayer, unlike Shema and Shemoneh Esreih. [Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, basing his argument on a statement of the Rambam, disagreed with the majority view and considered Tachanun an extension of Shemoneh Esreih.] Today, Tachanun is considered obligatory for men, because the formal prayer of a minyan includes Tachanun. It is valuable for women to recite the entire davening, but they are not required to do so. Women who normally recite Tachanun might be considered obligated under a personal vow, but otherwise they are not obligated. Rebbetzin Nomi is head of the Tanach dept. at "Orot college for Women", where she teaches Tanach and history. 3 ANNOUNCEMENTS GOOD LUCK TED On behalf of the Executive, Board of Governors, Staff and the entire membership of BAYT, I want to extend a tremendous thank you to Ted Wojtkowiak who is stepping down from his position at the end of the week. We will all miss Ted. Ted has been a dedicated, devoted, and loyal member of the facilities staff for close to three decades. He has been a part of our community longer than most members. He has a true love for the shul, our membership and the Jewish people. Ted not only has kept our institution running, he is an institution himself. In his quiet and unassuming way, Ted has helped many of us on countless occasions when we've needed him. He has been the first one in shul in the morning, and the last to leave and lock up. Never flustered, and always with a smile and a "Good Shabbos, Rabbi" or "Good Shabbos, Ma'am" to every member young or old. We had an awesome turn out and everyone enjoyed the activities and Prizes.
