The period ends with the 9 th of Av, the day both Temples were destroyed. During the Three Weeks No weddings are held We do not listen to music We avoid all public celebrations We do not cut our hair or shave (if one needs to shave for business, the Rabbi should be consulted.) Sunday night, July 23 rd, is Rosh Chodesh Av. Rosh Chodesh begins a period called The Nine Days. Prohibitions of Tisha B Av Eating, drinking, bathing, anointing, wearing leather shoes, marital relations and the study of Torah except parts dealing with destruction are all prohibited on Tisha B av. Until midday, we do not sit on a regular chair. If one sleeps with two pillows, they should try to sleep with only one.
