1 Pastor Molly Kuekes Attached is some information on our primary pastor candidate, Ms. Molly Kuekes. We will meet her at the called congregational breakfast meeting on Sunday, July 29 at 8:30 am. Rick Rozzelle Council Meeting Update Council Meeting Highlights July Council Meeting was devoted to the conversation with our Pastoral Search Committee in reviewing their recommendation for a primary candidate and meeting that candidate. After a council vote to accept the unanimous recommendation from the pastoral search committee AMF Council set a congregational meeting for final consideration for July 29, allowing for the appropriate noticing. January July Financial Report: Received thru June $69,904 Expenses thru June * $68,290 Over/Under +$1,614 * We had anticipated expenses for Jan June to be $72,129 Next Council Meeting is scheduled for August 12 th after worship all are welcome to attend. 2 AMF Constitution & By-laws Review AMF Council spent several months working with interim Pastor CeCee to align our constitution and bylaws with the ELCA. Attached please find the modified version with a few of our own modifications. We will strive to review and update this document annually staying in alignment with ELCA recommendations. Revisions and updates require congregational approval, so please plan to attend the July 29 Congregational Meeting right after church. Sunday School New Bible Basics Class Come join use for Sunday School in the Conference room at 08:45 to 09:30am for an overview of the Historical Books of the Old Testament. Coffee and Doughnuts are available from 8:30. Learning begins promptly at 8:45. August s Schedule is: Aug. 5 Judges and Ruth Aug & 2 Kings Aug & 2 Samuel Aug & 2 Chronicles Who should come? Any and all who seek to develop or strengthen their personal understanding of the Word of God to enrich their faith journey. What is it? A new, Spirit led Sunday School group study focusing on building up our personal knowledge and understanding of the Book of Faith and how it relates to our everyday lives When is it? This new, facilitated group study will be offered from 8:30 am 9:15 am on Sunday mornings beginning in June 3. Where is it? The group will meet in the conference room down from the sanctuary. Why is it important? As Christians, the bible is our guide to our work, our play, our faith and our very lives. WARNING: Participating in this group could change your outlook on life and how you interact with people. Page 2

3 How do I start? Pray! Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your discernment if this is something you consider important and are being led to do, then come. Opportunity for Service (1 hour per week) The Montagnard Tutoring Program will be entering its fourth year at AMF. The students are picked up by Community in Christʹs van every Monday evening during the school year. Ms. Stella Ryan provides a delicious meal for 14 second through tenth graders, and then the volunteers help with homework, play games, get backpacks organized, and hear about their lives. Because relationships matter, we have worked to pair the children with their own personal tutor as numbers allow. The kids and tutors have found this quite successful. We would love to give every child this opportunity to bond with a tutor, but first we need to add more volunteers. If you have one hour a week to make a difference in the life of a child, please join us. No special skills are needed; just the ability to participate from 5:45 to 6:45 on Monday evenings during the school year. If interested, please contact Lauren Milner at or at laurenmillner@roadrunner.com. Summer Reading Fun at Belhaven Estates Summer Reading will have a back to school party on the last day, August 14th. We will be collecting school supplies over the next few Sundays look for tub in Narthex marked Back to School Supplies. We have about 30 kids registered and we can use crayons, pencils, notebook paper, spiral notebooks, pocket folders, rulers, packs of markers, pens, colored pencils, erasers. The last Sunday for collection will be August 12th. Page 3

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God s grace. You work every day to make your community a better place. Let us continue doing this work together in The event has quickly become an anticipated way to be church together and church for the sake of the world. Whether our congregation prepares and delivers meals to people who are homeless, cleans parks and beaches or writes thank you notes to emergency responders, your service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans God s work. 5 The Gathering Group The Gathering Group will meet for lunch on August 6, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. to have lunch at Ostia s Kuzmina Restaurant located at 609 N. Main St., Belmont, NC. Your Participation is Needed The 40 th annual Charlotte CROP Hunger Walk is fast approaching. It is October 13, 2018 a SATURDAY!!! Mark your calendar now. Plan now to be a part of this important movement. Be a fighter! Help fight hunger and poverty in Charlotte and around the world by walking, supporting and giving.
