Prayer Line: Jo Kusz From the Director of Faith Formation/Pastoral Minister Peace be with you and Do not be afraid are the two one-liners Jesus speaks after his resurrection. These were of great encouragement to the fearful disciples who were witnesses to the many healings of Jesus and many of his life, death, and resurrection events. They saw him heal those who no one else would touch. They saw him seek out those who were marginalized. They saw him eat and sleep, laugh and cry and get angry! They saw him suffer and die and then experienced his resurrected presence among them where they were greeted with Peace be with you and Do not be afraid. Now we are called to be his witnesses, to let others SEE that Jesus is risen and does live among us in very subtle and simple ways: Eve, age 8, comforts her classmate who is crying because her parents are getting a divorce. Thus Eve, young though she is, gave witness to the Risen Jesus. Life seemed to have slammed into Alex who was new in his high school and was hearing that dark voice which speaks of self-destruction. He is failing in math. Dillon offers to help him which causes a radical reversal in Alex s life. The two boys develop a deep and lasting friendship. Alex eventually becomes a doctor, and at his graduation from medical school, he reveals to Dillon for the first time how he saved his life in high school. Dillon gave witness to the Risen Jesus. A young mini-skirted lady buys lunch for a homeless, toothless woman and even eats with her as they nestle themselves comfortably on a nearby park bench. The young lady gave witness to the Risen Jesus. Parish volunteers feed those who hunger, teach Jesus story to children, clean our church building, work at Alley Shoppe, and freely give of their time and talent and treasure in many and varied ways. They each give witness to the Risen Jesus. To each and all who give witness to the Risen Jesus today through kind, compassionate, and merciful words and actions: May you hear the voice of Jesus say, Peace be with you and Do not be afraid! Update - Sr. Kathy At the Easter Vigil we joyfully welcomed Lucy Delveaux, who was baptized into the Catholic Church. We also joyfully welcomed Michael Cooper, Nicole Hahn, Kathryn Kane, and Marrion Muia, who received the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation and now join us in full communion with the Catholic Community of Faith. We rejoice in the work God has done in these people of faith and look forward to sharing together in the Eucharist. Thank you for your donations to area food shelves. 82 pounds went to Merrick Community Serv., Mpld., on April 13. 3 Faith Formation Parents of young children are asked to save the dates June for Vacation Bible School which will be held with and at St. Pascal s. It will be a week of Bible stories, songs, crafts, and games. More details will be coming soon. - S. Kathy Social Concerns Justice: We each leave our personal impact on Planet Earth. Our footprint reflects on how and what we eat, buy, and wear, and how and where we travel, and how we live. -Jon Symes Charity: Please be generous with your donations to the Mail Carriers Food Drive on May 9 th. Our Faith Community will again benefit from that collection. Mail carriers will bring several mail trucks filled with donated food items to us that day. Volunteers are needed to unload and sort the food items from noon to 4:00 pm. Kindly gather at the north door of the school to meet and greet the mail carriers with all their donations and to help with the unloading and sorting. Hundreds of hungry people benefited from the very successful collection last year. Hopefully this year s event will also be successful. 4 Presentation School News Presentation of Mary Drama Club, under the direction of Co-Directors Amy Feesl and Nicole Paslawski, will be presenting The Keys to the Kingdom, an original play by school parent Mike Paslawski. Public performances will be on Friday, April 17, at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, April 18, at 6:30 pm, in the School Gymnasium. Admission is $6.00/adults ($1.00 off with a nonperishable food donation for the food shelf); $2.00/students. Parent-Teacher conferences will be held at Presentation of Mary School on Thursday, April 23, from 3:30 pm 7:30 pm. Presentation of Mary teachers will participate in a professional development day on May 4. Several teachers will visit Hill-Murray High School that day to visit classrooms, garner ideas from the Nicholas Center regarding differentiated learning strategies, and converse with H-M department chairpersons and teachers regarding the transition to high school for Presentation graduates.
