Prayer Line: Jo Kusz From the Youth Minister I have always loved the way children pray. Hearing their sweet little voices mangle the words of every-day prayers just makes my day. My 2 year old, Cora Lou, is just coming into her own prayer life. Yes, she is 2. I know. I promise this won t be the mother s equivalent of a fishing tale, so stay with me on this. We pray together multiple times a day as a family, and admittedly she spends most of that time looking at the ceiling and picking at her toes. But sometimes, she joins in with gusto. Her favorite prayer is one that we often take for granted, and I will type it as best I can in her voice: In the name of the father, the son, the holy bare it, AMEN! She doesn t change the meaning of the prayer exactly, but she makes up for her mistakes with a huge amount of enthusiasm in the Amen. I think all of us say this simple, sweet prayer countless times in a day. We are calling on the Most Holy Trinity every time we do. And while it may be part of Intro to Prayer 101, this is at its core a deeply profound and powerful prayer. The Trinity is not something to be trifled with, let me tell you! The Trinity is power. The Triune concept of God is not something that came when Jesus walked among men, and it certainly is not a man-made ideology formed when the canons of the Church were being laid out, as some neo-christian theologians would like us to believe. No, the Trinity has been here since before Day 1. It has always been present. All three Father, Son, and Spirit were a part of the creation. In the first chapter of the Book of Genesis is the story of the Earth s creation. It s a story we hear from our earliest days of Sunday school. In the beginning was God the Creator, and He created. This is the first third of the Trinity: the Father. But God wasn t alone. Genesis 1:2 says, and the earth was without form or shape, with darkness over the abyss and a mighty wind sweeping over the waters. In the Hebrew text, a mighty wind (ruah) literally translates to spirit or breath of God. This is the second member of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit! And here is where it gets really good. Throughout the story of creation, the words follow a nearly formulaic layout: On this day, God commanded let there be and then there was, and it was good. It almost sounds and feels as though God is alone. But then the sixth day came, where God created all of the animals. Upon deciding this was not enough, He says, Let us make human beings in our image, after our likeness. Gen 1:26. Yes, He refers to himself as us and our. We know He can t be talking to the Mighty Wind, as breath and wind does not have an image or a likeness. So who could He be talking to? One quick glance at the Gospel of John answers it all: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. John 1:1-3 Yes, Jesus was there. All things came to be through him. Our God is so good and He loves us so much that even before the beginning of time, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit thought through our existence and created us with great love and generous intention. How fitting that we would call upon this Most Holy Trinity with an ardent and grateful heart each and every time we pray. Try not to take for granted how powerful this prayer is and don t forget to take a page from the book of Cora and give that final Amen some well-deserved enthusiasm. - Jessica Nelson

3 FFF: Family-centered Faith Formation On this feast of the Blessed Trinity, we might remind ourselves to pray and make the Sign of the Cross with great respect and not like we are splashing holy water in different directions! The divine mystery of the Trinity calls us to pray that holy sign with PROFOUND REVERENCE. Believing that the Holy Trinity resides within each of our hearts, we can become agents of MERCY, as that is another name for our Triune God. Kindness and forgiveness are the works of those in whom the Trinity lives. The Two Feet of Social Concerns - S. Kathy Justice: Best wishes for bountiful blessings from the God of Mercy to all who took the time to sign the Justice cards last weekend. Those cards encouraged our legislators to vote for funding for the 2 nd phase of the new Dorothy Day Center cards were signed here at Presentation and at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and we are VERY grateful. THANK YOU! Charity: A suggestion for the planting season: Plant a few extra tomato plants and/or other vegetables and fruits for families in poverty. Your garden will be blessed! The mail carriers blessed us with a ton of non-perishable food items. Food gift cards will be welcomed and used for perishable food items. We also need gas cards, quarters for laundry, and paper products. Open Your Home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus 12 Promises of Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary for Souls Devoted to His Sacred Heart: 1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life. 2. I will establish peace in their homes. 3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions. 4. I will be their secure refuge during life and, above all, in death. 5. I will bestow a large blessing upon all their undertakings. 6. Sinners shall find in my Heart the source and the infinite ocean of mercy. 7. Tepid souls shall grow fervent. 8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection. 9. I will bless every place where a picture of my Heart shall be set up and honored. 10. I will give to priests the gifts of touching the most hardened hearts. 11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart, never to be effaced. 12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the First Friday in nine consecutive months the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in my disgrace nor without receiving their sacraments; my divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment. As a continuation and addition to the house blessings we have done last year, Fr. Benny will be available to do the Enthronement and dedication of your house to the Sacred Heart in the month of June. Please start signing up and you will receive a call to schedule a date convenient for both you and Father. (Sign-up sheets at Kennard Street entrance of the church.) H.E.O. He taught us when it is an emergency to call 9-1-1, and we even got to sit in the back of his squad car, listen to the sirens, and watch the lights. - Ms. Jessie From Rome Greetings of prayer and blessings from Rome! The second week of our CFIC General Chapter is in progress with group discussions and preparation of the motions/proposals for the future of the Congregation. The first week was mostly spent for the reports from various responsible persons and various missions in different countries. The most exciting event happened on Saturday morning we were given a private audience with Pope Francis! We had to wait almost three hours in open air under heavy rainfall with a few umbrellas and raincoats. But it was worth waiting at the end. All 35 delegates and some of the organizing committee members met with Pope Francis, listened to him, and had a group photo session. As I had promised, I introduced myself as the delegate from USA and thanked him for his recent visit to the USA and greeted him for you all. His encouraging exhortation was, Have courage and go ahead with your beautiful mission and pray always.
