Fall Church Conference Each fall we gather as a community and reflect upon the past year of ministry together and make plans for the future. Servant leadership From Christ s perspecve, a true leader is a servant, commi6ed to the success of each individual in the group. Jesus did not cricize his disciples desire to lead; he just showed them how to do it by washing their feet.... The essence of spiritual leadership, therefore, is following Jesus and serving people. People rebel against controlling leaders, but it is impossible to rebel against a servant. Geoff Gorsuch, Brothers! A Prayer for Neighborliness O God, we pray for a broader vision of the needs of humanity, and a deeper compassion to fill those needs; for a planng of the seeds of concern for all humanity in our hearts; for a tapping of the wells of generosity. May we live together as people who have been forgiven a great debt. May we be gentle, walking so9ly with one another. May we be understanding, lest we shall add to the world s sorrow or cause to flow needless tears. May we be as anxious for the rights of others as we are for our own. May we be as eager to forgive as we are to seek forgiveness. May we know no barriers of creed or race or sex, that our love may be like Yours a love that sees all people as Your children and our kin. May we be ministers of humanity. Peter Marshall
6 Page 6 HELP House This past spring, our special Easter offering was in support of the non-profit organizaon, H.E.L.P. (Housing and Emergency Lodging Program). H.E.L.P. was founded 35 years ago by several members of area churches who felt a calling to respond to the need for shortterm lodging and transional housing for individuals and families. People are referred to H.E.L.P through a variety of government, non-profit, and religious organizaons in the larger community. At the me of our Easter offering, the owners of the duplex that had served as the H.E.L.P. House for the past 12 years had decided to sell the property, which meant H.E.L.P. needed a property they could rent or lease so the organizaon could connue to provide transional housing for clients. Thankfully, H.E.L.P. was able to enter into a lease agreement for connued use of the duplex with the new owners in September, allowing them to connue the transional housing aspect of their mission. Now that the property issue has been resolved, H.E.L.P. is looking for individuals willing to work with clients as mentors as they strive to become more economically stable. If you are interested in learning more about the opportunity to serve in this way, please be in touch with Michael Ling, his contact informaon is listed in the Foothills UMC directory. Foothills Connection Women of the Church Annual Spiritual Weekend was held on September and enjoyed by all. I would like to invite all the women from our church to aend next year so you don t miss out. Thank you to Barbara Perry, Betsy Schwarzentraub, Tonja McCarthy and our Spiritual Leader, Pastor Maggie McNaught from Carson City FUMC, for a wonderful weekend in Zephyr Cove. Book Club - The first Tuesday of each month, 7 PM. Contact Jeanne Pfeifer for further informaon. October 2: Eve: A Novel by Wm. Paul Young. Meet at Coleen s house We are in need of volunteers for Donut Duty! Would you please contact Marilyn Long to sign up! We need you to parcipate! Prayer Shawl Ministry is the first Monday of each month at 1 PM in room #8. Please contact Sharon Gaal at sfgaal@yahoo.com or at for informaon. Super Senior Ladies Lunch - last Friday of each month at China City Restaurant in Cameron Park at noon. Infinite Treasure The present moment is always full of infinite treasure. It contains far more than you can possibly grasp. Faith is the measure of its riches: what you find in the present moment is according to the measure of your faith. Love also is the measure: the more the heart loves, the more it rejoices in what God provides. The will of God presents itself at each moment like an immense ocean that the desire of your heart cannot empty; yet you will drink from that ocean according to your faith and love.
